So before I take off for Yosemite, I wanted to go back and talk about the selections I made and my thought process through the draft.
1.05: RB, Reggie Bush: I would have picked him even higher if I had the chance. Everything about his situation spells success including what looks to be a nice soft run schedule moving forward. Not gonna blow this pick up becasue enough people love the guy anyways. I think 1,500-2,000 yds and 10+TD and then you throw in at least 50-60 catches and this is a no brainer. Sidenote: Bush and the Saints have a bye week4. My best player has his bye when there will still be 13 other teams in this league(assuming I am still alive)...I have a much better chance of surviving vs if he had a week 10 bye and there are only 6 teams left. Think about that.
2.12: RB, Adrian Peterson: I coul dhave gone WR and would have gone WR but the last of what I consider the top tier of WR was gone. I would have loved Reggie Wayne but it just didn't work out that way. Peterson is an unlnown because of the draft but it is looking more and more like he might slip by the very top 3-5 picks. If he landed in Minnesota I would be thrilled. I have no respect for Chester Taylor and I think Peterson would shove him to the side quickly. There are a lot of scenarios for AP and I feel he will succeed early on as a rookie. I also considered "Cadillac" with this pick.
3.05:RB, "Cadillac" Williams: Again I could have take a WR...my short list was Lee Evans, Javon Walker and Darrell Jackson. I was not lucky enough to have Roy Williams come back around to me. PAE would never have let me get him anyways. I decided that I needed to be strong somewhere and RB is an area where you must have 2 every week. I expect AP to do very well but to have "Cadillac" as a #3RB on your team...and be able to basically only need maybe 1 more RB later in the entire draft was going to mean I could focus on some other areas and also catch up hopefully at WR. The Bucs have a soft run schedule similar to Bush and the Saints. I didn't know this when I took Caddy but I do now so this pick is already starting to pay dividends.
Picking Caddy kept him off other teams as well. I see a lot of weakness at the RB position for a lot of teams. I don't see how some teams will be able to absorb bye weeks, and I don't see how they will survive when their big gun at RB has an off week. I also wanted to send a panic at RB for the other teams. 8 of the next 20 picks were RBs...that was music to my ears. At that point I wanted all the picks to be RB as I had my 3 in a 16 team league.
4.12: WR, Darrell Jackson: Remember my rule that if you go to take someone in a round, skip them and when it gets back to you they are still on the board...you grab them. DJax halped me out. He was a top3 WR thru the 1st 10 weeks of the season last year. The Seahawks throw the ball better than they run the ball as of late. DJax is a guy that can post 1,000-1,200 yards and 8-10TD...that is exactly what I was looking for. I was excited to lock him down as my WR1.
5.05: TE, Jason Witten: Not every pick I made was a great pick. ANd while I am sure Witten will be a top5-10 TE this year, only 1 TE was picked after I took Witten. SO I could have had Ben Watson coming back up in round 6 likely. I think Witten is better and he has great rapport with Tony Romo. Witten can post 70 catches and can cover up the WR3 position a little bit for me. I also thought about a QB around here but I decided to pass and fill the TE spot which gets 2 pts per reception and that will play big during the season.
6.12: WR, Terry Glenn: Watched Stallworth, Clayton, and Furrey fly off the board before I had a chance to lock any of them up. I felt a little forced to make this pick. I know getting another Dallas receiver to match with Witten is dangerous but I also felt like Glenn was capable of 1,000 yds and I needed points for the WR2 slot. Bye week in week 8 will hurt me with both of them out but we will just have to get bye.
7.05: WR, Kevin Curtis: Did not want to wait any longer. I feel Curtis will pick up a lot of Stallworth's production for Philly and has a legitimate shot at 1,000 yds and 6-8 TDs...not only is he a good WR3 but he can also push my WR2 slot and maybe flip with Glenn for those points. Meaning if he takes off then Glenn will fall into my WR3 slot and I was totally comfortable with that.
I was getting very nervous about my QB spot and wanted to address it. There was a massive run on QB before I would take my 1st one as some teams were locking down their QB2 already.
8.12: QB, Matt Schaub: Been a fan since he was a rookie. I think he will elevate the entire Houston offense and make better decisions there. Schaub is a risk but he a very nice WR in AJ to hook up with, Green out of the backfield, and a defense that is on the rise and should make for some shorter fileds for him to operate under. I waited a bit long to address the QB but I had Schaub in my 2nd tier of QBs and am happy to get him.
9.05: QB, Jake Delhomme: Had to go ahead and lock up another QB. There was another big run at QB and had I waited I would have been stuck with a Charlie Frye/Andrew Walter at QB...no thanks.
10.12: WR, Marty Booker: I had to address my WR and i would do so for the rest of the draft whenever I could. Booker is a steady 700-800 yds and 5-6 TD...I think Cam will keep him around, he had McCardell who was a lot older in SD, seems ot me that Cam likes WR with good hands not necesarily burners, so Booker should see some good production this year.
11.03: WR, Michael Clayton: I still hold hope that he can get back to what he flashed his rookie year. He has bottomed out the past 2 seasons and i expect him to do a lot better this year. Garcia should push Simms along and the passing game will be much better. Gruden has too much pride to put the same sputtering offense on the field again next season.
12.12: Def/ST, Dallas Cowboys: This was my way of pointing the bird at Pimpin in the 3 slot...

I had wanted the NE Pats a round earlier but had to dig in at WR. Dallas will score points as we get them based on yards allowed too. Wade will make an already good defense that much better. I like them a lot.
13.05: RB, Michael Pittman: Had to back my Caddilac play with this. pittman sometimes has those games where he snags 2 catches for 50 yds and a TD...that's exactly what you look for down here. Spending a 13th round pick to back your 3rd round pick is a good deal too.
14.12: WR, Mark Bradley: A nice sleeper WR. He had 3-4 games last season where he had 3-4 rec for about 80 yds and sometimes a TD too. He is entering his 3rd season, sometimes referred to as a breakout year. I am not trying to say he will post 1,000 yds but he seems to have the tools, was a 2nd rounder out of Oaklahoma, and has god speed to get down the field. I am looking for a HR at this point, he looks like he can have 4-5 of those types of games and perhaps work his way in as a starter if Muhammed(long in the tooth), or Bernard Berian stumble.
15.05: WR, Anthony Gonzales: IMO he is one of the most NFL ready WR after Johnson going into the NFL draft. I do think someone will take him at the end of the 1st round to help explode an already potent offense. I think Indy has an eye on him. He is Brandon Stokely with skills...

I could see him taken by Indy and plug in as their WR3, running down the middle of the field. he could be a PIA for defenses if he has a good WR lining up across from him already. As my WR7 I am simply trying to find a gem down here. I knew he wouldn't make it all the way around the horn again and I had missed out on Nate Washington earlier...
So now I just have ot fill a Def, PK, TE...pretty simple stuff down here in the bottom 5 rounds. This has been a great experience for me and I am glad I was part of this draft.
Peace.
