People are waiting in line outside the Circuit City here (1 Viewer)

It is not okay for people to use guns to cut in line and beat up or even killed other shoppers. We're not living in the Wild West. Sure, Walmart got fined $7000 for the stampede in 2008 but why is there no public outcry against the nutjobs who go crazy for these sales?

I go out and before they had it on Thanksgiving, sometimes at 3/4 AM. Sometimes not even looking for anything in particular- just if I happen across a good deal on something I wouldn't mind having but wouldn't buy at full price. In general though, I like crowds. I like to be where there is activity and people watch. I like the madness of it for the madness sake. I live in a city of about 300k and it's pretty much a guarantee that I'll see some folks I know so there's a social aspect to it.
Wow

That not everyone thinks like you? I'm honestly a little wow myself that someone would want to sit on their ### instead.

Who said we are sitting on our asses?

I could have spent my Thanksgiving camping on the sidewalk outside Walmart, then battling fatties over ####ty Polaroid TVs after surviving the running of the bulls.

Or I could have enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving dinner with family, drank copious amounts of booze, got a good night sleep, fixed a nice breakfast in the morning and gone out on a bike ride with the kids.

I would literally pay $100 to avoid Black Friday

Yea, had he stopped at the first question mark, he would have had a valid point. But he overplayed the hand.

Anyone have the model number and Black Friday price on that Polaroid TV? I want to read all the 1-star reviews and see how much of a discount it really was.

Also would you still want the TV after it's been slammed around in a battle royale for 20 minutes??

Was in a Wal Mart last night grabbing a loaf of bred and saw a big screen being returned. Admittedly, that was what I was wondering. Was it not working because he dropped it 14 times fighting to get it out of the store?

It was last Black Friday overseas. They were reduced by £150 from £399 ($600 USD) to £249 ($375 USD), so they saved approximately $225 USD. Sad. You can get a Samsung for about that much and they're much better quality. But I'm sure people shopping on BF aren't interested in a quality purchase.

Nice tradition we're spreading across the pond.

Looks like the store running the sale on Polaroids was Asda. (last year) It looks as though they decided not to do Black Friday again this year . (link)

How much do you make an hour? How much do you value your time?

Honestly, if it meant saving a couple hundred dollars and I had to get up at 3 am and spend a few very frustrating hours "shopping".....I would pass on that in a heartbeat. The savings aren't worth it and I really don't see how this would be fun.

Like I said, it's not about an item per se for me. I just like the madness of it all, the people watching, etc... If I happen across a good deal, then even better. I always have liked crowds.

You get up at 3AM to join a mob of smelly mouth-breathing poors waiting in line to fight over low-quality electronics. For the people-watching appeal.

I don't know what you think it's like but it's NOTHING like what you seem to think it is. I have never found people to be anything less than pleasant.

Mind blown eh? This isn't worth an argument so I'm out.

I actually can kind of get the whole wanting to be a part of something/wanting to go just for the experience. It's insane to follow through on that urge, but it does make some sense.

While I think TJ is insane why is it so shocking/off-putting to people that not everyone is wired the same and gets a kick out of the same things in life?

I did it once too. I was sure I witnessed mankind devolving before my eyes. It was scary. So now I stay at home and drink, fart and eat turkey pot pie.

I know of at least one location which still has the Circuit City sign up and has probably been unoccupied for about 9 years.

Folks got wise and now just stay home and shop on Amazon, right?   Right?

Like, you're not still fighting though hordes of fat people all night to save 19 dollars on a plasma, are you?

People are out dealing with that bs right now, on thanksgiving night for crissakes. Horrible, despicable people, all of them.

Circuit City was an odd place.  I remember laughing when you posted that.
Emphasis on was. It was bought out by Tiger Direct a few years ago. That's how old this thread is.
