People are waiting in line outside the Circuit City here (1 Viewer)

Which glob of consumer electronics are you stabbing your neighbor for tonight?
I think with the 6pm Thanksgiving opening, a lot of the stabbiness has gone away. The zealots still go the earliest while the casuals will get up the next day for the Friday morning specials. Spacing out the crazies might have been the best plan they came up with.

Went by a Best Buy yesterday (turns out they're still in business) and saw about 10 people camping in tents. Sad that they apparently don't have friends or family that spending that time with would be more valuable then saving a few bucks on crappy electronics.

I mean, the best deal BB had that was a doorbuster was a 55" Sharp TV. Camping out all night and spending the day in 40 degree weather to buy a crappy tv for $180 when you can get a much better one for $350 or so is crazy to me.

I'm in Florida visiting my parents.

They live ~2 miles from one of those premium outlets.

We almost went over....almost

Just saw them interviewing a couple at the local mall. The entire interview, I saw ONE other pair of people pass behind them. No throngs of folks, no pushing and shoving. The mall, which is normally packed, looked virtually deserted.

Maybe it's because you have that extra $170 to spend.  ;)

Yeah, I get that. Just a few short years ago $170 would have been a lot of money for me too. But if you can't work a few extra hours somewhere to make the difference, or can't afford to spend $170 extra because it will break you financially, maybe don't buy a new 55" tv at all.

I get that not everybody's time is as valuable because I was there fairly recently too. But spending a couple of days in 30-40 degree weather to save a couple of hundred bucks on non-necessities while bypassing Thanksgiving seems pretty awful to me as well as inefficient. But I guess some people must get some enjoyment out of it or something that makes it worth it for them. I just happen to think those people are weird.

I am right there with you, but like you said, I think a part of it is still a right of passage or tradition for some people.

I get it more if you didn't have a lot of money and don't have an HD TV at all, but I get it a lot less if it's your 3rd TV in the house.  (Not that I don't get the 3 TVs in the house, just that I don't get waiting overnight for that).

Seriously. How are people making money on iPads?  They’re the same price everywhere.
I do think they play games on pricing in other parts of the world. Like South America. So you can make decent coin reselling phones there but not iPad. I mean who needs a new iPad that hasnt been sat on by your fat grandma or something?

I thought the same thing when I went by my local Best Buy on the way home from Thanksgiving at the in-laws and saw the line around the building.. #crazy

Can you even make arbitrage on that stuff anymore?
I dunno. We were trying to figure that out last night in the car. Everybody has similar deals in stores near them. We figured he has to sell them overseas?

Look at me! I make a lot of money like Otis and Chet, now!

Wife and sister drove over there.  Even the overflow lot was full. They turned around and came home.  Lol

Hey guys, as specific technology becomes more mainstream, the price goes down. Apparently a couple people in this thread are just learning about it.

The marginal improvements in quality and tiny decrease in price now vs 10 years ago has to factor. In 2000 there was a bigger ceiling and lower floor for panels.

Savings were in the 100s and near 1000s of dollars. Now its not clear if the deals are even breaking amazon last week.
