Per ESPN Radio, T.Dungy's son, James found dead (1 Viewer)

I guess it offends people to gossip about the mysterious death of an 18 yo. Sorry, but people are not suppose to die at 18, so it is not bizzar to be curious about cause of death. Besides most of what people are reporting is coming from other sources like the radio. So I suggest not listening to the radio it may also be considered "sickening".

Don't shoot the messenger. I feel bad for anyone that loses a family member, especially the coach that transformed the Buc's from a bunch of losers.
I don't know if you'd say it's "offensive" to gossip about the death of a young man like this. But please let's not do it here. There will be plenty of places to analyze and criticize and speculate over his myspace site and all that kind of gossippy stuff some people do. Please find another board to do it on.Thanks.

What was wrong with the Oxycotin thread Joe? We had an acquaintence die from a drug overdose this week...no foul play by the Tampa Police Dept...its not hard to connect the dots...but that thread was not intended to hurt anyone Joe.Joe, I have met Tony Dungy, many that live in Tampa and are/were Bucsfans probably have...the guy is one of the absolute best human beings I ever met..."Promise Keeper" the whole nine yards. i think you are being quick to close threads un necesarily. The Myspace site I understand somewhat but it is on public domain...its not a secret. Soemtimes we need a place to vent...your site usually provides that, i am a bit upset that you would be so closed minded friend.
What's wrong is you jumping out and speculating the young man died of a drug overdose when you have zero to back that up other than you know a guy that it happened to.On this board, please show some respect for this family and this young man that died. There are plenty of other boards where you can speculate and gossip about him all you want.

Fox News does this sort of thing all the time and they're professionals.
Then go post on the Fox News site. Is that hard to understand this is Joe and Co.'s board and if he asks to take it to another board, you do so? Do you just want to argue and push your luck?
That was supposed to be a jab at Fox News. No need to get so defensive.

I know that Message Boards seem to be places where they love to break the first news. But what does anyone gain in speculating or even reporting the first news in cases like this. Either way it is a tragedy and no one should gain satisfaction from whatever the cause may be!

If this is true, that is horrible! Drugs involved? Most 18 year old kids don't just die of "natural causes". Just goes to show you that no matter how much money you have, you can't buy happiness....
First off, God, please be with Tony and his family. I can't even begin to understand what it must feel like to lose my son. I lost my dad recently and somehow I think that losing a son would be infinitely worse.Second of all - I hope we don't see any more posts like the one above. Have some respect for Tony and his family. You have no idea about anything like that, so just keep it to yourself. Don't assume the kid was depressed or into drugs or anything. Stating assumptions like that is way out of line.

Thanks, Joe for that post. That's exactly how I feel about some of the posts I've seen on here.I have so much respect for Tony and his family, and so much empathy for a father losing his son, that people speculating and assuming like that really gets me upset.

Thanks for helping reign it in and keep things focused where they should be - on reaching out to Tony and his family.

1. The oxycotin thread is back open in the FFA...it was never meant to inflict harm on anyone...read it, there is some good stuff in it.2. I stated initially how awful I feel for Tony Dungy...in fact I think some of us feel this a little more than others...I lived in Tampa during Tony's coaching days, met him, think he's an awesoem human being. If this was any other coaches son I probably would focus more on the FF impact than if it wetre TOny Dungy...that's the truth...the only other coach I was ever wrapped in as much was Don Shula when I grew up in Miami as a kid.

I promise you that all Colts fans and many Bucs fans like myself, Capella, Norville, many others in here feel quite distraught over the loss of this kid. I also defended the website that was linked to as I don't think it proves anything other than he was 18 and exploring/expressing his identity just like we all did at 18.

I sent a PM to Joe so that there was no misunderstanding, and I don't think that when the local Police rules out foul play almost immediately that it takes a brain surgeon to figure out what the remaining options are...I can only think of 3 of them. Suicide, Natural Causes, or a Drug overdose of sorts...if that's speculation than tear me apart. I am not trying to be insensitive to anyone.

Then go here.Meanwhile, all this talk of religion/no religion and of drugs/no drugs and even of football is just unimportant. I almost lost a child once, but was lucky. Friends of ours were not so lucky and did lose one of their children to early death. Life hangs by a thread, every day. And there's nothing that seems more fundamentally wrong than a child dying before his or her parents. Life is what is important.

Well, maybe I am a bit defensive right now. I am sorry. I get really angry when I read people taking shots or speculating about an 18 year old kid, who is the son of such a well-liked and respected guy as Tony Dungy and then when Joe asks people to take that talk elsewhere, people want to question him. Joe wasn't being a jerk. Just asking politely for people to take that part of the conversation elsewhere. For me, it's more of an overall anger at some of the posts here. Let the kid rest in peace and pray (if you pray) or wish his family the best in a tough time.

It strikes each of us differently and even those who have been through this type of personal loss, can't quite understand what this family is going through. I am an emotional wreck right now because one of my best friend's dad is passing away sometime this week from cancer. He's a close friend and was my baseball coach growing up. I can't imagine how horrible it would be to lose a child, even if he was a "troubled" child.

All I ask is to try to be respectful of the situation and respect the opinions of others here on the boards. It's Christmas time here and whether you celebrate that or not, it's one week where we should all be able to get along.

For Tony Dungy and his family, you have my prayers and thoughts.

Edited to add: When I say "troubled" child, that is in reference to a couple posts asking if he was a troubled child. I am in no way insinuating he was troubled.

Here is a link form WFLA...a local NBC affiliate...I'll let you read it but there is a quote form the Sheriff 3 or 4 paragraphs down. If it's not true than this is pretty shoddy journalism...not that that would be groundbreaking either.

So what is wrong with that? How is that shoddy journalism? Did I miss a paragraph?"Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies were called by James Dungy's girlfriend to his apartment in the Campus Lodge apartments on Livingston Avenue at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, said sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter.

The responding deputy began CPR and continued the procedure until Hillsborough Fire Rescue paramedics arrived. They took over CPR and transported the teenager to University Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Carter said.

The body was taken to the Hillsborough Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. "

paragraph 4 where the Sheriff says it looks like suicide?

One last article from espn that I thought should be shared.
I hate threads like this. Tony Dungy will never read this thread, neither will any of his family (most likely). None of you know who I am--nor do I know any of you. No one even knows each other's real names for the most part (minus the the mods/admins). So what good does it do? It just seems so hollow, so for show, so. . . symbolic, rather than substantial. And then you read this quote from the article above:"To say nothing, though, in such cases is to essentially be as hollow as the hollow words themselves, and so some sincere effort is surely in order."

That about sums it up. So I will add to all the others my wishes of peace for the Dungy family. What an absolutely tragic, sad, sad story. Not that any time of year would make this sort of thing "better." Just seems so much more sad now. Bad things happen to good people. . .

It's a lie to distract the Colts
Very uncool
wtf did you expect from some of the little brats that troll message boards? Maturity? Class? Perspective? I bet they had some great jokes about Nick Berg's beheading and 9/11 too.

There's no end to the depth of some losers. I shudder to think of some of the other gibberish that is already being dribbled back and forth in this thread, and regret even reading the first few replies.

It's terrible that anyone is so miserable or in such pain that they choose this. Then how or why anyone could come along actually SNEER at such a person...it's beyond low; it's bizarre. How tragically detatched from reality such a person is.

Re. Dungy, I feel as bad as I can feel for someone who I don't even know. I wouldn't blame him the slightest if he called this the end of his coaching for the year, but I'm sure he won't...in fact it will probably help to have the organization/team's support and give him something to keep him busy. The really sad thing about this now is even if they won it all, how much could he really enjoy it? And if they lose in the playoffs, it's just not going to be nearly as big of a deal (at least for me, and I've been an avid Colts fan longer than many of you have been alive).....which really it shouldn't be anyway.

What are you trying to prove? From the outset it look like a suicide, trying to convince people that you have an inside source does nothing. I can insure you that I have met the Dungy Family far more than you have. Regardless of the cause of death, nothing will bring his son back, and you quoting sources is insulting.
Relax...there was a lot of slinging around here this morning about speculation. Just linking an article...not sure what your mad about...I'll PM you so the thread doesn't take a left turn.

Wow... Someone links an actual story released by the press and somebody jumps on them... Some of you people are too much... I think your problem is with the media in this country and not with someone simply supplying the facts that he thought others might be interested in... It is a tragedy and we all feel sorry for the Dungy family and friends but people are way too quick to jump on their soap boxes and tell others what is appropriate... This is a forum that is set up to hear people's ideas and opinions I agree with Joe that in this case speculation is inappropriate and that tastefulness should be the call of the day, but there is nothing distasteful in the above posting and people really need to think twice before they tell others what is appropriate...

Truly a very sad loss for not just the NFL community but for all of us. But Dungy has the faith that consoles and despite his low point, I know he takes solace in knowing that his son is in a far far better place. Thoughts and prayers as always but more than ever, a time to take a step back and realize what's really just surface concerns and what matters more.
