Percy Harvin at practice (1 Viewer)

There's no doubt his migraine problem is worrisome but with Rice out for the time he his and the odds being in favor of Harvin playing opening day isn't it almost possible to say Harvin has WR1 upside? His ADP volatility is crazy high so maybe people should write in where he is being drafted right now as in the last 24 hours. I got him in the 8th round on Sunday in a PPR as my WR4 but Sunday is old news.

He missed a grand total of 1 game last year. Won rookie of the year. He is a stud in the making. Now this year he moves into at least a solid #2 lowend #1

1> He is not a rookie anymore and has Favres trust from day 1

2> He has to get more chances with Rice out

3> He gets some of the short dump passes Taylor use to get...in PPr leagues he will be gold

1050, 9TDs, 250 rushing yards 2 TDS

Is it doutbful now he will still contribute on special teams?

I'm interested where he's going as I really want him on my squad this year.

Picking from the # 3 slot in a return yardage league depending on how many Wrs are taken in the first round will dictate if I take him in the 2nd preferably 3rd round.

The fear factor of a late scratch due to migraine is a large one.
Making the value a good one...
It's value as long as he doesn't end up missing games. In his situation he may not be on the injury list and then at game time get scratched for a game becuase his migrane flares up. As long as he plays during early games you may be alright and he probably won't miss a lot of games, but there's always going to be that risk. If he starts dropping out of the 6th round, I think the value starts outweighing the risk. So far I haven't seen that.

Not on the injury report for Thursday. Greg Camarillo is gonna take some of the slot role away from Percy Harvin and is the reason why the Vikes were comfortable with not going after T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Percy Harvin's role will grow, specifically with the absence of Sidney Rice till atleast after their bye week, but also because he has already proven to be a versatile and trusted target for Favre. He's going to stay on KRs, and the addition of Reynaud to NYG shows some extreme trust in his abilities there. So in return leagues he is still going to be a monster.

Latest comments have hinted at what's in store for Percy, however:

Not just on kick returns. Not just in the slot.

In his second NFL season, Harvin expects to take on punt return duties at some point and also play extensively as an outside receiver, helping to fill the void left by Sidney Rice's hip surgery.

"I'm happy about it," Harvin said of playing outside.

"My eyes get wide. I always don't have to go down there and worry about defensive backs, safeties and linebackers. I get to go out there, play in a little more space. So, to me, there's nothing else better."

Harvin had 60 receptions for 790 yards and six touchdowns last season, but he did a lot of his damage on manufactured touches -- quick slants, bubble screens and other plays designed to get the ball into his hands easily.

Playing outside will expand the volume and complexity of his route running, which wasn't detailed in his rookie season but didn't stop him from making explosive plays.

"There's just a lot more space I can play in," said Harvin, who probably will continue moving inside when the Vikings use extra receivers on third downs.

"The more space I have, the better I am."
It has been said that the blueprint for getting to Favre was shown last year late in the season (and exploited by N.O.): Blitz, blitz, and keep blitzing. But Favre said recently in an interview, that teams that wish to go this route leave themselves vulnerable to fast passes. http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/...GEP7vDEh7P:DiUs

"You look at that game," Favre said of the Vikings' 31-28 overtime defeat. "I know right off hand two times [saints safety Darren] Sharper came free and it was huge plays for us. We didn't have enough [blockers] to pick it up. It was a matter of me getting the ball off before they got there, and getting it off to a guy who had to beat his guy 1-on-1 or anticipating the throw. ... The pressures we handled fairly well."

Favre was able to find enough holes in the Saints defense to complete 28 of 46 passes for 310 yards with a touchdown as the Vikings generated 475 yards in total offense. Favre, who remarkably wasn't sacked, said the two interceptions he threw came when the Saints decided not to blitz and dropped into a zone defense.
I think that this, combined with the appearance (and there is truth to it) of the Vikings' weakness at pass protection, Favre is going to be forced to keep getting rid of the ball quickly. I know a lot of people think that the pass/rush ratio may swing back in Peterson's favor, especially with him possibly staying in on 3rd downs more (with greater experience/departure of Taylor and neither Gerhart or Young being heir apparent to lock it down) but I don't think we're going back to Chillyball's verion of a Kick-### Offense just yet. I think Favre is still going to toss the rock, and Harvin is going to step up quite a bit. The threat of a migraine will always loom, but it won't stop him from producing when he isn't hampered by it.So I agree with the OP here. Percy Harvin is undervalued right now. I think he's going to establish that he's something really special with this new opportunity. Even more than he did last year now that expectations are lower given his rough offseason.

All offseason I kept thinking about the "heated discussions" Favre and Childress got into on the sidelines last year. The topic of debate? Favre audibles out of running play to passing play.

Childress just begging Favre to give Peterson the ball and Favre almost refusing.

This means two things to me.

#1 Favre is just gonna keep passing no matter what the coaches say. Good for the rec's, bad for ADP. Even with Rice on the shelf Favre will find some target to pass to.

#2 I gotta take it easy on this hobby. I mean, who spends that much time thinking about Favre and Childress having a disagreement? It's not healthy.

The Vikings will give him plenty of chances because he's a play maker. In a return yardage league he will be Top 10. In standard scoring he is the perfect guy to leave in your flex position if you have one.

The Schism was pure BS. The week before JA blew up on d-line coach Karl Dunbar, but when it came time to do the post game pressers they both said, "what happens on the field stays on the field." This was the exact same situation with Favre, however Favre doesn't know how to filter the crap he says in his post game sermons. Hell I get into it with my buddies in municipal touch football leagues, but we still have beers and laughs after the game. Same thing, two guys who have passion for the game let the moment get the best of them and then it was over as soon as it happened. Now Harvin is an amazing talent, and I feel he's undervalued at this point. The Vikings are looking for more and more ways to get him involved and his touches will go up as a result. However you have to understand that the Vikes have more then a few late games and that number will certainly go up with the return of Sir Brett. If Percy doesn't practice all week and then is a GTD, you may just have to start a slightly lesser option that has an early game. It's hard to take a doughnut and Childress isn't exactly clear when it comes to the injury report leading up to games. He loves to play mind games so don't expect anything resembling the truth. Harvin went to the Mayo Clinic early last season and said pretty much the exact same thing that they have a plan in place and he expects the migraines to not be such an issue. If one of the best hospitals in the world can't fix it then do not expect it to happen overnight. Even if he is a GTD in a late game he's probably going to have one of the highest ceilings of any WR3/Flex on your team but he's also going to have the lowest floor if he's ends up in a dark room napping the entire game or plays anyway and ends up collapsing on the first series and throws up all over the field like he did in training camp.

Love Harvin's value this year but DO NOT SLEEP on Camarillo. Hearing that little voice a lot over the last week.

I felt I had to add that in there because a lot of non-homers question his passion to be on the field, and even more so since he missed a large chunk of training camp following the death of his grandmother. The fact that he dealt with the migraines all last year and only missed a lot of practice and one game was enough evidence for me, but there were rumblings in the national media and on these boards about his level of commitment to the game. So after he got back to camp and had that episode on the field and had to be hospitalized, it should leave zero doubt in your minds about his will to be with his team and to be on the field.
