Pretty spent here getting everything together for this. Jeff Pasquino is going to take the core of what I wrote here and hammer out all the other versions. I am going to write some other articles (Gut series and a few other gems) before cranking out the Perfect Auction by the end of the week.

We will also update all of these again after the 3rd preseason games (as values and ADP move around). Thanks for being patient on this. It sucks the life out of me to get this done every year and it's been extremely painful this year, because player movement is happening so fast.

Hope this helps some of you dominate your drafts.

My initial feedback...

QB

1) No love for Colt McCoy?

2) Totally agree on Romo/Roeth

3) Agree with wait on QB unless somebody slides.

4) Huge fan of the Roeth/Bradford QBBC...great job by Chase for pointing this out in his article

RB

1) I can't get on board with Vereen or Sproles...their upside is so limited that there are few situations where I want them burning a roster spot.

2) Most strongly agree with Felix Jones and Gerhart

WR

1) Most strongly agree with Thomas and Moss

2) not a huge fan of any Raiders WR, you list two.

TE

1) Agree with the wait on TE strategy

2) Totally agree with your TE value plays although not as warm on Davis.

The one thing I think you're really missing Dave is some thought on who the best early round picks are. As you know, not picking potential busts in the early rounds is a huge factor for success. You spend little time addressing who not to pick.

Overall great article, love reading it every year to get a different, informed, well thought out perspective.

Looking at the rankings and ADP in DD, I was wondering why Matt Schaub wasn't listed - until I saw your entry on his player page.

As always - a great article - I was glad not to see Garrard listed as the QB to wait on :lmao:

I like the addition of the 'Don't pick before "XX" for the QB's, but it would be nice to also see the players to let go even if they are available based on the 'Eliminate the Suck' article.' Brandon Lloyd is on the 'Eliminate' list....

im new to football guys. i was wondering, how do you make you top 50 list? i have dd, so do i take the adp that its showing me on their, and combine it with the top 300 on footballguys, and then generate my top 50 list?

Based on the eliminate the suck article, 50% plus of your perfect draft is the suck.

Value-Based Drafting shows you that every player has value. But we all know that really isn't the case. You can't load up with players from Cleveland, Buffalo and Cincinnati (even if they were value picks) and expect to win your league. Suck In...equals guess what...Suck Out.
•All Players Have Value

Don't love anyone. Don't hate anyone. Get players that will significantly outperform their draft position and you will build a winning team.
I enjoy reading anything and everything, but one does has to wonder where your convictions are when the content gets so conflicting.

good stuff....

I love this article every year.... but....

I have to tweak it every year because every single league I play in (except maybe one here at FBG) has 6 pts for passing TD's.....and I really wonder how that would change things especially with usually the first thing being "wait on QB"...

are 4 pt per passing TD's still the majority these days...?......my gut says NO....and if they are not, I would like to see this with a 6 point per passing TD angle.....

same could be said about a "flex" option which seems more popular than not these days...

thanks....

I always like this article, but it feels like many of the picks in your sample team are very-low upside outside of your top couple of picks. I want to hit on the next Arain Foster or Peyton Hillis, not hope that nearly 30 year old Brandon Jacobs, Lee Evans or Nate Burleson will put together a "nice" season and be nothing more than a bye week filler. Guys like Chris Wells, CJ Spiller, Austin Collie, Marshawn Lynch, Julio Jones... all have the potential to be top-10 players.

I went back and looked at the perfect draft sample teams from the past few years, and they're pretty ugly. Especially outside the first few picks. I've always thought that you want to avoid major risk in the early rounds and then take chances on high upside guys in rounds 5-6+. Unless your league doesn't have FA, you'll probably turn over a good chunk of the back end of your draft anyways, so why not swing for the fences. Every week you can find X number of guys on the WW that have about as good as a chance to help your team as Jacobs, Evans, Burleson.

David, I'm interested in your response. Can you have a perfect draft with 50% suck?

yea I want to know if the thing on waiting on a qb is still applied if they can score 6 pts a td. It seems like a great article, but i want to know if it changes if the qb get 6 pts not 4

Well, I had the first 7 Runningbacks on my list of guys to target. Hopefully not too many people read it. Well done DD.

It was my main criticism of the "Suck" article. It's almost as if FBGs spat this out because they knew they weren't going to get the Perfect Draft article out on time.

Doesn't matter. They're still relative to each other. IOW, you can get a viable QB later than a viable RB.
