Peter Jackson to make The Hobbit (1 Viewer)

Here is my answer: There is no American Dream it is a big old lie...
I think he(and me among others) wants to know what you define as 'The American Dream'. It being a lie, a polluted idealogy, or some misguided philosophy is irrelevant. What is your definition?
A polluted idealogy
Why are skirting this relatively simple question?
You need me to write a dissertation on this? Go turn on yer TV and look at the world. Understand what the malcontents selling the "American Dream" have their fingerprints all over. You blame God for violence, genocide, rape and pillaging? I think that Uncle Sammy does a nice job of that and has for a very long time.
The ever accumulating of things at all expense is not what I'd call the American Dream. There's a huge difference between greed and wealth.

The sad thing for me is that so many brain-dead sheople in this country let their beloved TV do their thinking for them

You mean CNN and Oprah are really wrong? Paid puppet masters for Rupurt Murdoch. Ummmm can we get a tin hat smiley please?

I may be a porn-loving, Harry Potter reading, booze swilling, god denying atheist, but lets just pretend we decide to hang out and pursue a fun time. I'm up for anything, tell me what we'd do that you'd enjoy.
I'm free.
Far from being free. You are bound by a lot if you like this lifestyle. The Hobbit will be loaded with images of the occult and cannibalism. Pure filth...
I don't remember any canniblism. :shuked:
Hulk, explain why you bought into the idea that there is no God?
Huh?Thats backwards. I didn't buy into the idea that there is a god. You follow?
So, you believe there is more evidence for there not being a God, than there is for one? How did all of this happen? Evolution is being discredited by many scientists who are now accepting the fact that this was "created".
No, not at all.I have not been exposed to enough evidence (that I consider credible enough) for me to believe in god. My default assumption is one of not knowing, not one of assuming god. Thats my framework. As for how all of this happened, most of it is a mystery to me still. But, just because I can't explain something, does not mean I assume its something god did.As for scientists discrediting evolution and promoting creationism, that may be the opinion of a tiny minority, and nothing more.
Then, for the sake of accuracy, you are more of an agnostic than an atheist. Scientists are coming out in droves as far as accepting "creation" over evolution. The problem is, this won't be broadcast on the main-stream TV-cable because of how engrained all of these godless rubes are with the idea of evolution. The sad thing for me is that so many brain-dead sheople in this country let their beloved TV do their thinking for them.
-If by droves you mean barely any, then I agree. If not, you're simply wrong.-I am an atheist. I am not a "hard" atheist, but rather a "weak/soft" atheist. I do not say that there is no god for certain, yet, I do not believe in any god, and that makes me an atheist. I know what I am, but thanks for your concern.-If you don't see the irony in your sheep comments, at least I do. Thanks for making my day. :ihugs:

The ever accumulating of things at all expense is not what I'd call the American Dream.

Is it still apple pie, puppy dogs, white fence and freedom?

There's a huge difference between greed and wealth.

Define wealth in this day and age?

Yeah! We didn't have any of that before there was a United States! They invented it!

:lmao: They invented nothing. Tricks of the devil. You disobey. You get punished. You praise you are blessed. Simple rules.....

No. It's the ability to improve your lot in life through effort.

Wealth is the same as it ever was - you get a lot because you give and/or provide a lot.

Again, skirting.I didn't ask for a dissertation. I asked for your personal definition. 3-4 sentences. Stop acting like a 6 year old. If you want to discuss grown up subjects, act like one.

I didn't blame God for anything. Don't assume you know what I think. If you are so against Uncle Sammy and the direction America has taken, why waste your time on a message board and not exhorting the masses to see the evil surrounding them?

i have already seen this thread and power monster's contributions referenced on another board in a hobbit thread. :moneybag:

Thank goodness no violence, genocide, rape, and pillaging have occurred in the name of God. Oh, wait.........

And, Militiaman65 is one who welcomes all to any discussion! Go on, people, prove to me there is no God. The gaunlet is thrown down, who has the guts to pick it up?????
Hulk did that a long time ago.
How did Hulk prove there is no God?Mark Twain once wrote - "It isn't the parts of the Bible that I don't understand that disturb me, it's the parts of the Bible that I do understand that disturb". When you use the Bible as a mirror and hold it up to your face, you see the evil in your life and the carnal man walks away and denies God to satisfy his own empty lusts.

No. It's the ability to improve your lot in life through effort.

Fair enough

Wealth is the same as it ever was - you get a lot because you give and/or provide a lot.

Fair enough but it is not worth much if it has no value.....

We have been down this road. Back up the bus about 5 pages....

You haven't been down this road with me, a true heavy weight on this subject. Come on, Hulkster, give me your best shot.

Go sell yer self serving debate rules some place else. Again back up and look and see what I wrote. There is no American Dream. It is a big lie....

You are correct so I apologize.

If you are so against Uncle Sammy and the direction America has taken, why waste your time on a message board and not exhorting the masses to see the evil surrounding them?

I see no evil in having debates with people like yourself (if I follow the non 6 year old adult rules). It is not the medium but the content that we choose. Again- life is about choice not chance. There is no way of stopping the machinery of the devil. He has his minions in place. Go look at the stooge in the White House and the stooges that proceeded him. Look at their track record. Hard to have an American Dream when America is really just The United States.....

If you're such a heavyweight on the subject, why don't you just save all of us silly atheists the time and prove to us there is a god?

You think Twain was talking about introspection in regards to the disturbing parts?I think you've got a fundamental misunderstanding there.

Step out on a limb and prove to us that there is no God

No, Twain didn't like what God had to say on many subjects; namely sin. A guy like Twain isn't going to be disturbed by the historical accounts of the Old Testament regarding witchcraft and the like. Twain, like so many people, didn't like how he was falling short of what God expects of people. That is what he found disturbing; he knew he could never live up to what God expected. Twain was a man of vices, excess and immorality. He chose his sin over God.

What scientific basis do these "droves" use for accepting creation? Lack of adaquate theory does not prove the existence of a "Creator".

No, the scientific examination of things like DNA and chromosome sequencing have proven that these things could not have happened by "chance". They logically conclude that these things must have been intelligently designed. Hence, "created". Please turn off your TV and do an objective research on these matters. Lee Strobel's book - "A Case for a Creator" is a great place to start.

Lee Strobel as a source for showing how scientists are abandoning evolution? This is the greatest thread of all time.

Lee Strobel interviews scientists for this book. These are not Strobel's opinions. He puts hard questions to respected scientists who answer all of them based in science. What do you consider a good source? The Masonic Encyclopedia Britanica?Or, maybe I should show how the Bible has not been wrong yet? Like the fulfilment of prophecy? Like how Jesus fulfilled 48 Old Testament prophecies of the Messiah, including when and where He would be born?

No he didn't."Strobel is frankly misleading about his experts' qualifications. While spending paragraphs touting each of his interviewees' "doctorate-level" educations, he fails to point out that most of them do not have doctorates in the fields dealing with the issues on which they were interviewed. Rather, most of them have doctorates in philosophy or theology, and perhaps undergraduate degrees in a related science. Strobel clearly meant to insinuate that he picked doctorate-level experts in the fields dealing with the issues they were interviewed about; but, with a few exceptions, this is not the case. This does not bode well for his claim of standing "in the shoes of the skeptic.""

Or, maybe I should show how the Bible has not been wrong yet? Like the fulfilment of prophecy? Like how Jesus fulfilled 48 Old Testament prophecies of the Messiah, including when and where He would be born?
I'm not even going to touch that.

Do you really think you can do that? I mean, in your own words - without cut-n-pasting some scripture taken completely out of context, given to you, without any research or confirmation on your own part? If so, then YES!

I'm not even going to touch that.
And, where did you hear, or read, that Strobel was "misleading"? Let me guess, a special on The Discovery Channel? And, why not touch the prophetic accuracies of the Bible? The Bible is perfect so give it a try.

I'll even take cut and pasted.

It fits the description when Strobel tries to pass of his experts as scientific experts when they're anything but.
And, why not touch the prophetic accuracies of the Bible? The Bible is perfect so give it a try.
Pick a prophecy.
How about any one of the Messianic prophecies that Jesus fulfilled.

Here's an easy one, Psalms 22:18 (written about 1000 years prior to the crucifixtion) speaks of the gambling for Jesus' clothing. Matt 27:35, Mark 15:24, Luke 23:34, John 19:23,24 show that this happened.
