I did not participate in either side by the time that was coming to a head. I saw the laughing emojis from one side and I saw the people complaining from the other.

Im also going to add that I think Joe is getting fed up with having to moderate this place so much. I dont think he is there yet, but I see a day where he just thinks to himself, it just isnt worth the headache.

Some of you all must experience real life differently than I do.  If I went out in public and continually laughed in the faces of people who disagreed with me, I'd be getting my face punched in.  I guess because it's some tough guy hiding behind a keyboard it's less disrespectful, right?

Generally speaking, I agree with others that you should just ignore the trolls and move on.  It would be nice if they were banned but whatever.  But there was one guy who I’m pretty sure got banned because he was laughing at people in the Covid thread when they posted about people dying - that kind of stuff can’t be ignored.

This is BS. It wasn't specifically to troll other posters. It was the content of some posters was so hilariously bad that rather than engage with crazy, they just laugh at the nonsense. 

Then the group youre defending went around complaining and literally invented "the laughing emoji gang" name. Per the playbook, they did exactly what they were accusing others of doing. 

Bottom line, IMO the laughing emoji was banned because a bunch of softies whined about getting their posts laughed at. So now when we dont like something, we just whine to Joe and he'll remove it.

I don't think we are being honest if we say it wasn't specifically to troll other posters.  We all know what was going on and there is a bunch of shtick in the PSF - that's the internet.  

I don't even know how much the 2nd bolded is either, but we will never know.   Now we just have new "you're the one who reported it" shtick to derail threads.

People ignored us repeatedly asking posters not to use it in a negative way to laugh at other people. 

At some point, it becomes clear people are going to ignore us asking.

If you like something or think something is funny, use the like emoji.

And to be fair, this was mostly (but not exclusively) in the Political Forum where people are regularly uncool to each other with this. 

Unfortunately, we don't have the ability to change the allowable emojis for different forums. 

Sorry, but it's not coming back. I realize I'm more protective of this than most people but the derisive, snarky condescending laughing at other people is too much of a negative. It kills real conversation and it's the picture of online bullying. That was happening way too much. Sorry.

The laughing emoji goes away but the posters who abused it are still around?  Makes no sense.

We felt removing the emoji was better than removing the people abusing it. Some are in this thread.
