Peyton Manning's destination (1 Viewer)

Sounds like Manning may be getting on a plane heading to Denver soon. It seems to be down to Denver and Tennessee. Just curious...realistically what could Denver expect to receive from another team for Tebow if they land Manning? I don't see a team paying a first for Tebow. I wonder if he would end up backing up Manning?

They wouldn't do that to themselves. Still having him on the team leaves it open for Tebow Nation to come back out in force the first time Manning throws 3 picks and loses a game. They'll ship him out for what they can get, or drop him outright.

per Schefter:Broncos traveling party includes Exec VP John Elway, HC John Fox, OC Mike McCoy, QB coach Adam Gase, GM Brian Xanders and a medical team.
What, no Tebow???
:goodposting: Why can't Tebow go watch the workout of his 2012 backup? :)
They probably don't want The Tebow to pick up any bad habits from Manning.
Right or wrong (and we will not know this for years, if ever), the Broncos want to find a way to shed themselves of Tebow Mania...what better way than saying "How can you argue against bringing in one of the best QBs ever???". It is a win-win for management; if it works, they spurned conventional wisdom and shook things up when they looked OK...if it fails, they say "how would anyone know the best QB in the last 25 would cease to perform??". Damn, if feels good to be a gangsta'...

per Mike Freeman, NFL insider for CBS:

Peyton Manning continues to narrow his choices and as expected the Denver Broncos and Tennessee Titans have emerged as the favorites to sign him but there is an interesting twist developing.

A person close to Manning confirms a story first reported by ESPN that a Denver contingent will watch Manning work out. Yet the source said the Titans are still heavily in the mix.

A Dolphins official confirmed that the team has been informed they have been eliminated from contention. Arizona is all but eliminated from the mix as well but it's unclear if Manning or his camp have informed the Cardinals they are no longer contenders.

Here's the twist. A source stated that there are at least two teams ready to jump into the fray and the Manning camp has spoken to them.

To repeat: there may indeed be other teams who could sneak into the fray at the last minute and throw this entire process for a loop.

How much of this is Manning camp posturing is unclear. I also don't know which teams are circling but I do believe this to be true.

In the end, the Broncos remain the favorite, because of John Elway's persuasive powers. But there very well could be other teams that might make a last minute play.

Just sign a contract, DQ.

49ers? Ravens?

Alex Smith still unsigned. :coffee:

There is literally a live shot of the Denver people driving from the airport to the Duke campus in a van. Hilarious.
Middle Tennessee news outlets lined up at every exit between LP Field and the airport on Wednesday, just to get a shot of the caravan.

I personally don't see Manning doing most of this as posturing. Maybe his agent has suggested that, to some extent, but Manning is a football guy and I think this is largely just due diligence, on his part.

He's one of the top QB's to ever be in this situation.

Think of it as the reverse of buying a new car. Manning could check the online Carfax reports, get reviews at Cars.com, and make a decision based largely on incomplete information. OR, he could actually go out and kick the tires, do some test drives, and let the right car sell itself to him.

I think he's just trying to find the right fit at the right price, and hurrying his decision just for the sake of "getting it done already" would be counter-productive.

Oh my...

per Mort:

Filed to ESPN: Third team in Manning race that has emerged is 49ers - Manning worked out for Harbaugh & took physical this week #NFL32

I wish the news about the 49ers came out TOMORROW...

The chances of winning my FA auction on Randy Moss on the cheap will start to quickly dwindle....

More Mort:

Harbaugh and OC Greg Roman watched Manning throw at Duke on Tues night; impressive enough to send doctor next day to give physical exam

Despite speculation Broncos have GM Brian Xanders or "money people" present, no decision or signing will happen today w #Broncos

There is live video of Manning in Denver walking around with Elway, footage of Denver people driving to visit Manning , but he was able to squeeze in a workout and physical for the 9ers undetected?

Let's see...

49ers:

Good WRs (especially now)- CHECK!

Good RB who can catch too - CHECK!

Good TE who is a mismatch - CHECK!

Good, stout D to protect leads-CHECK!

Former QB as a head coach - CHECK!

Playing in warm-weather city - CHECK!

Ladies and Gentlemen, I think Mr. Manning has found his new team.

the whole NFC thing is an issue I guess, but odds are they might never face each other in the playoffs anyway.

Mort, again:

Contract parameters w these teams are basically in place; as we've previously reported, Manning offering all teams protection re: neck

I bow to the genius of Sacramento Bob, whom I accused of trolling for not shutting up about the 49ers about a week ago. I've been humbled by you Sir.

makes all the sense in the world to me.SF should be heavy SB pre-sason favorites w/ Manning; no reason for this not to happen.

Why would the 49ers not do everything in their power to get Manning? He is the absolute perfect fit with where they're at as an organization. Got to NFC title game with Alex Smith and Kyle Williams and could replace them with Manning and Moss? Are you kidding? And Smith is not the long-term answer and isn't even under contract. So they lose nothing in terms of long-term stability at the position. This is so obviously the best situation. Screw his brother. Tough crap, Eli, you're not going back to the Super Bowl.

With all these reports about how good Manning looks throwing, etc, the Colts are looking dumber and dumber by the moment. If (and that's a big IF) he comes back and looks like he did before, and plays 3-4 more years, this looks really bad on the Colts IMO.

I predict Manning will let this thing drag on for 15 more days, then on April 1 Jim Irsay will tweet to the world that this whole thing has been an elaborate April Fools joke and he will sign him to finish out his career with Indy.

They then trade for the boatload of picks with the Browns, who felt screwed out of the Rams deal, for the rights to Luck and rebuild the team.

Reggie Wayne was in on it and that's why he's already re-signed.

Pierre Garcon holds a press conference and rips off his Washington jersey to reveal a Colts jersey. He hits Daniel Snyder over the head with a chair and spray paints IND 4 LIFE over his body.

This would be genius.
