Philadelphia at Carolina, TNF Week 6 (1 Viewer)

Didn't it use to be the ball had to be inside the pylon? ... or hit the pylon?

In the field of play, don't they mark the ball where it goes out of bounds? Not where the runner lands out of bounds.

Nantz is wrong, the pylon doesn't go around the world anymore. I don't think there was an angle that showed that clearly enough to overturn. And noone challenges when it's first and goal from the one.

Dumb

8 penalties for 116 yards vs 1 for 1 yard. This Eagles team is NOT that undisciplined.

When did this rule change to "crossing the goal line out of bounds is a touchdown".

So outside of the pylon is still a TD. That's pretty dumb.

They changed that? Didn't know that, when did that happen?

they did that for a couple of years...years ago. Ball has to be inside the pylon now

The goal line extends around the earth so long as the [body part] doesn’t hit the ground.

And to the 2nd part, yes - so if the ball was over the pylon when it went out, it’s a TD.

They ditched that stupid idea several years ago

Jeff Fisher was on the rules committee when it was changed to inside the pylon Rams got flagged for hitting a player OB He was clearly OB  but was diving for a td which he scored. The rule was changed the following year
