OK then.

Somehow knew this one would be a tough close one, but will take it

I'm not lying when I say that back when I was his age, I was a better kicker than Matt Ammendola. Or at least I was at the beginning of college until I started squatting weight and bulked out in the glutes, hammies, and quads and lost a little flexibility.

But yeah, that guy is terrible.

Thank Kyler Murray for that one
That was 1000% on him, and 1000% the worse series I’ve ever seen. Great decision to tuck & run - but you have to
1. Know where the line to gain is
-and-
2. Know when to spike the ball vs hurry up and run a play.

1st down? Spike away!

3rd down? What is you doing Kyler?!

what were you wearing? Go slow…

We can blame Murray (and yes he appears to be a buffoon) but you would think the coaches would well you know “coach” him in that moment.

They probably called the QB draw, which was the correct play.

He slid a yard short of the 1st down. He then spiked the ball. Bang bang back to back plays - what we’re they supposed to coach, exactly? He’s been playing football a long time - dude should know where a line to gain is, and he should have known that on 3rd down you hurry up - spiking it seems panicky.

They can’t coach that in the moment. Dude just had a mental block or something, because that’s all pretty basic football.

Since 2021, FG attempts from 40-45 yards are good 83% of the time.

Its silly to me that Murray is the scapegoat of the Cards losing. He's a big reason the game was close to begin with. He drove 50 yards in 1:45 with no timeouts, and despite an offensive penalty, against the best team in the NFL so far. I thought the Cards defense played solid overall but giving up an 8-minute drive that costed all 3 timeouts certainly deserves some blame as well.

Yeah, Murray shouldn't have spiked it, but that's just as much on Kingsbury, and even then, does that change the outcome in any way? That kick wasn't gonna be good from 5-10 yards closer. They were highly unlikely to get a TD from there. What if they didn't get the 1st down, and had to rush the FG team on? What's the most likely scenario? Murray runs a yard for the 1st, then spikes it, then they take a shot or 2 at the endzone, and likely kick from the same spot?

This was a decent team with plenty of inconsistency, keeping up with, and almost going to OT, against the best team in the NFC at least.

ETA: The FG percentage only jumps to 86% from the 30-40 range.

Agreed. That is one of those things that any QB who gets to the pros should know. The more we see and the hear, the more it becomes obvious that Murray has relied his entire life on his athletic ability and doesn't really care about fundamentals or the little things. That works in high school and college, but not in the pros for long.
