For me, it actually bubbled up from the very underground in reference to serious drugs (I won't specify). I would hear that it was "grease" or "fire" when dealers would try and convince people to buy it. "This is some grease. I got fire over here." Everything was "fire" or "work" or other slang. But "fire" was very common to hear.
