Pick 12 - The Bumpy Road (1 Viewer)

I'm going to preface this with a quick "I know a 12th pick thread exists". But I want to look at it from another angle, as we are closer to the season.

The 12th pick (of 12) was my dream spot one month ago, if I didn't get the benefit of a top 4 pick. Things seemed to be on track for a DMC/Forte combo. Potentially two top 5 back in your stable at the 12 spot is a dream com true.

But then armaggedon arrived. TRich, down. Mathews, down. DMC, unleashes the beast. Forte, ADP skyrockets.

What just happened? I'll tell you what just happened... That Forte/DMC dream just became Steven jackson/Marshawn lynch... good. not great.

Alas, I felt yesterday a minor revelation occurred. Adrian Peterson. Yup, his knee exploded like Peter North on set. But, it's Adrian Peterson, a machine.

Miles ahead of schedule for recovery, his ADP was ready to skyrocket with the likes of DMC and Forte (maybe not AS high, but up there...) until we got a "gift" from Leslie. No preseason. Ok, not a gift exactly, because we don't get to see how ready he is. But a gift nonetheless, as if you want to take a risk on one of the greatest RBs of the last few decades, he will be sitting pretty for you at the 12 spot. And for all intents and purposes, may be as close to healthy as possible.

We all know what a healthy AP is capable of. Are and of you suiting up for an AP swoop at the 12 spot? I never considered it until the last 48hrs. Now my heart seems set on it. AP sounds confident. Leslie sounds confident. I feel confident.

Could this be an ultimate RB scoop at the 12 spot? I think so. I know and feel the injury concerns, but I just get tingles in my stomach thinking I may walk out of the 1/2 with Peterson and J Jones. If there is one player in the NFL I feel can overcome anything and produce, it's AP.

Thoughts? Did the 12 spot just go from great, to crap, back to potentially great again?

(note: all 3 "stud" QBs will 110% be gone by 1.12 in my league, so Im speaking from that perspective)

You may need someone to save yourself from that 12th pick. His own teammates were told last week that if they touched him, that they would be cut. And your prepared to spend a 1st round pick on someone who went through such a devastating injury 9 months ago? I must say it, you have some brass cojones

I know. I dont disagree either. It's a risky pick. But hes been taking nearly 20 snaps in practice. he's running. He feel good, he says. He was set to make a preseason appearance, but the coach decided against it (that can be a positive, or a negative)He's just unhuman. His skills and ability are freakish. I just feel like he still finishes as a top 5 rb this season

Great thread! We needed another one of these, especially after the further complications at the RB position. You may as well include pick 9 and 10. Even picks 12-14.

Yesterday I did a little 25 dollar league draft, and ended up having the 10th pick. I went with the safe guy with Forte but nearly threw up when the 14th pick came to me. I panicked and took MJD. With the news of his hold out only getting uglier, I'm worried. As much as I like the guy, I may avoid him at all costs now. So After Foster (1), Rice (2), Mccoy (3), Rodgers (4), Brady (5), Megatron (7) Johnson (8), Forte (9) - what's really left? Well it's a wasteland IMO. I really believe if you have picks 10-12 your chances of winning a championship instantly go down. Anyways, I'm not touching Murray, Stafford, or Newton. Just a got feeling they are over valued. You also have a guy like Graham or Gronk. But I'm not a proponent of taking a TE in the first/early second.

I'm starting to feel hopeless with a pick the 10-12 range. My strategy with the 12 pick, as sad as it sounds, is to reach for a guys like Julio, Lynch, and Sjax. The problem is that, those players just don't present value at the turn for me but because of RB scarcity, Depth at TE and QB, I'm forced to settle with one of these 3 guys. Any opinions on settling with 1 of these three guys i mentioned.

Check the Charles thread for the history of RBs coming off ACLs. I think Peterson will greatly disappoint even those that get him late in the 2nd.

I'll probably get shredded for saying this but he should probably be ranked about RB24. If he stays healthy all year he could finish near the top 10. But you could say that about a whole lot of RBs too. His PPG will be down considerably, as will his cutting ability.

Fact is he tore three ligaments in his knee in December. History is not on his side.

Ryan Mathews/ Julio Jones /Graham are the picks at 12, i have decided this is the best route we can take. There are plenty of rb's late to fill in for mathews for 2 weeks

A one-legged Peterson is better than what else is available.

If he is starting week 1, you have a steal.

Good thread.

ETA: I also like Andre Johnson at the 13 spot.

I wont touch Ryan Mathews. I know, sounds odd, since Im willing to take a guy coming off a destroyed knee.. But, no. No to Mathews for me.Peterson is to the RB position as Calvin is to WR. If AP is feeling good like he says, so am I.As for the 2.01 pick, Im going Jones. 100%
