And for those in redrafts wondering if you should start him this week, here's a little nugget from Payton:

"You'll see him get a lot of touches this weekend."

Pierre Thomas-RB- Saints Dec. 6 - 9:23 am et

According to the New Orleans Times Picayune, if Pierre Thomas can't handle the feature back duties over the final four weeks, "the Saints almost certainly will sign or draft someone who can this spring."

Thomas understands he has a prime opportunity over the final month, dubbing it his "Lance Moore moment." Since capturing the role three weeks ago, Thomas has averaged 4.9 yards per carry and 106 total yards per game to go with four touchdowns. Coach Sean Payton said, "You'll see him get a lot of touches this weekend."

Looks like a nice flex option

In this offense, I'm thinking a nice RB1 option :hot:

I think he has strong RB2 upside this week in what should be a high-scoring affair. I would anticipate him being more involved in the passing game this week - even with Bush ready to go full tilt. This part of the article jumped out at me since some Saints fans were all over Thomas early in the year because of some issues in short-yardage:

Because of his deceptive power and explosiveness, Thomas rarely gets stuffed on runs. He's ranked second in the NFL in that category, having been held to 0 or negative yards on just two of 78 carries (.026 percent), according to Stats, Inc.

I still think Payton made a big mistake going with Deuce for so long and relegating Thomas to special teams duty. I think Thomas is the team's best "running back" and has been all year long. By not using him more, I think Payton undercut his team's best chances for success by not playing his best players.

Reggie Bush (knee) was added to the Saints' Week 14 injury report after missing Friday's practice, but is listed as probable.

The decision to sit Bush out was precautionary, most likely because coach Sean Payton plans to use him extensively against the Falcons. The probable tag means the Saints consider Bush "virtually certain" to perform his normal duties. Expect Reggie to see 18-20 touches and return punts in Week 14.

Sounds like Reggie will also be a bigger play going forward :)

I have both Pierre and Bush, start both? or which one? Its 2.5PPR in our league, Bush avgs like 36 ppg even with 3 horrible games...

How many touches do you anticipate PT getting this Sunday with a healthy Bush? I own both just curious if should start PT over Hightower in my Flex. Not a WDIS question....but just curious to see what you guys think a lot of touches would be?

He averaged 10 touches per game in the first three games when he played alongside a healthy Bush. Given what he's shown lately and combined with Payton's comments and the need for the Saints to do everything they can to keep the Falcons' offense off the field, I think we could see Thomas get 15-20 this week. I could envision him getting 12-15 carries and 2-4 receptions. That still leaves plenty of touches for Bush.

argh the more the week goes on the more tempted i am to start him over gore.

With Reggie Bush healthy? No way. That being said hed make a great RB2 down the stretch and plays DET in week 16

I'm in the same boat. You know that Gore will get the touches, but what will he do with them? PT seems more likely to do something with his touches, but just how many will he get? There are a lot of mouths to feed in New Orleans.

i envision 15-20 touches and thomas's floor being something like 13/45 rushing and 2/15 receiving. with that offense i think the chances are good he has a red zone look or two.the million dollar question for me is if that is enough to justify starting him over a guy who was supposed to carry your team.

Held him all year. Im trying to justify a move towards him as my RB2.

I would have to bench Grant and Parker. PT is making me think.

Deuce McAllister's four-game suspension has been postponed, but his availability for Week 14 is unlikely to impact Pierre Thomas' role against Atlanta. McAllister did not practice this week and the Saints have moved on from him. After an inconsistent start, Thomas has come on very strong in the last five games. During that span, he has generated 6.4 yards per touch and found the end zone four times. Even when McAllister was practicing, Thomas had already bypassed him on the depth chart and taken over as New Orleans' go-to back in short-yardage/goal-line situations.

One Saints beat writer even said this week that coach Sean Payton is "starting to warm to the idea that Thomas is the team's lead runner - not (Reggie) Bush." While Bush is slated to resume 18-20 touch per game duties on Sunday, Thomas is the better bet for early-down carries and non-special teams touchdowns. He is trusted in passing situations as both a blocker and pass catcher.

While the Saints do hold a walkthrough practice on Saturday, McAllister could be a healthy scratch versus Atlanta because Payton didn't have time to incorporate him into the game plan. Thomas will be a focal point of New Orleans' attack in what projects to be a high-scoring affair at the Superdome. The Falcons' run defense surrenders 4.8 yards per carry (fourth worst in the NFL) and has yielded 14 rushing scores through 12 games. Thomas has emerged as an every-week fantasy play in leagues that use a flex (WR/RB) position. :goodposting:

I am here to eat my crow concerning PT. He has been a Stud this game. I am laying to rest any past arguments that he couldn't get the short yards. The man is a beast and has even out shined Reggie Bush. Those who grabbed him as a free agent should feel very fortunate.

Pppppppffffffffffffffffffttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

Have him on my bench. I sure hope Gore doesnt lay an egg.......

Wow! Wow! Wow! Pierre Thomas saved my butt. If I win today, and that is still up in the air, Pierre gets much of the credit. Had to bench Barber, Addai and Holt (my first three draft picks this year) for obvious reasons. Pierre may help me advance into the second round -- I hope.

Does anyone feel that Pierre Thomas will be a significant factor in 2009?

In other words, I peg him in re-draft as around a round 4 pick....any upside or downside from that level?

FYI - the round 4 pick was not a scientific calculation - just a cuff on where he might end up....

If Sean Payton would have gotten his head out of his ### a week sooner against Tampa Bay and tried to run the ball up the middle instead of forcing the pass this Atlanta victory would have much more significance and the Saints would still be in the hunt. Hopefully lesson learned for the coach.

Pierre Thomas ....thursday nite @ chicago....what say ye ???? I think he has a decent game
i think the saints will struggle. they suck on the road. they haven't played in cold weather this season and the early reports put it at like 15 degrees - not including the wind chill - that night. aggressive and harassing defenses tend to put the saints off balance.

thats exactly why i think thomas does well ...the saints will run more than pass and one thing thomas has proved is he can move the chains and find the endzone

Pierre looks like the most fluid RB on the team. What do you guys think of his chances on Thur night at Chicago?

Im not a redraft expert but I think he'd go round 3 as an RB2. He's a young RBBC-A in a nice offense. ("A" standing for solid goal line ops in a good O)Interesting dynasty/keeper dilemma I drafted myself into though.
