Pierre Thomas OUT for Week 5 and now Week 6 (1 Viewer)

well, he was surely doing rehab and stuff like running in the pool. sounds like too much of it. not looking good. wonder if surgery was an option that they tried to bypass.

I just bought really low on Pierre Thomas on the hope that he will come back and be productive. This sure is starting to look more and more like he may be shut down for the season...or maybe I'm just reading too much into everything?

Coach Sean Payton is still resistant to the idea of putting a timetable on Pierre Thomas' return from an ankle injury.

Payton said Thursday that surgery hasn't been ruled out, but it also hasn't even been discussed yet. The medical staff is looking into "all possibilities" to rehab the nagging injury. Thomas has been advised to get back into a walking boot and reduce the weight put on the ankle. We'd be surprised to see him in game action before Week 11.

How does one have surgery on a sprained ankle? Is there a procedure for it or is his ankle mangled up more than they are letting on here?

w Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas, still out since suffering what has been described as an ankle sprain in week three against Atlanta, said Thursday he is somewhat baffled at the length of his recovery and uncertain about the exact nature of his injury.

The Times-Picayune

New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas said he can't figure out why his ankle isn't healed up yet.

"I really don't know what's the whole problem. Everybody keeps saying its sprained or maybe a little tear there, I don't know for sure if that's true," Thomas said. "I'm hearing so many different stories I don't know what to believe. All I'm thinking about is how to get healthy, how can I get better. I was told to stay off it so that's what I'm doing."

in Coach Payton's doghouse, meaning he's the next Mike Bell.

METAIRIE, La. (AP)—Saints running back Pierre Thomas(notes) is using crutches after practice to keep pressure off his sprained left ankle and says he’s frustrated by the length of his recovery.

Thomas has not played since the injury occurred late in the Saints’ Week 3 loss to Atlanta. On Wednesday, he was at practice, participating in the team stretch and did some light jogging. But on Thursday Thomas was absent from practice during the portion open to reporters.

Thomas says his ankle is not getting worse and he can jog without much pain, but that trainers have advised him to keep weight off of it when possible.

Fellow running back Reggie Bush(notes), who is recovering from a broken right leg, also did not practice on Thursday.

You'd think he'd have some concrete information on the injury by now. Is it common for a player to not know the extent of his injury several weeks after it occurred?

Hard to see Thomas coming back and being a viable option this FF season. Bush will be back in a week or two and pick up some of the load.

I would say the shark move now is to trade for Pierre Thomas. You can probably get him for almost nothing, like a WR3 or a handcuff to someone's RB. If he's out until week 11 (post bye) you still get him for the money time down the stretch. If he ends up getting IR'd or just does a Anthony Gonzalez from last year, you didn't pay much. The Saints aren't winning without him so there's reason to believe they will use try to get him very involved if/when he returns.

agree, definition of a shark move. small investment that does not adversely impact your roster, but potential for large impact down the stretch. maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but if it doesn't hurt why wouldn't you try?signed,Pierre owner who is NOT selling

Well, if nothing else, w/ both PT & Reggie out week 8, maybe Lance Moore is a palatable WR option for some owners vs Pitt.

I think anyone who cuts bait with Pierre is foolish. The season is still pretty young and he could realistically come back after the bye and be a tremendous value to your team. If you own him, you can't trade him because his value is so low, and you can't cut him, because he has too much potential. Just be patient and try to stay alive until he comes back.

I was able to get him as a 'throw in' in a recent trade and am optomistic he will be a stud for me weeks 11-14...week 15 the Saints are @ Bal unfortunately.

It won't be young by the time they come back after their bye though. I've got him and kept him in a league where there isn't a ton of space on my bench but I'm be lying to say I wasn't a little concerned how he's now in the coach's doghouse and the fact he hasn't played for so long. Luckily the Saints aren't winning as much as they thought they would be because if they were, they'd probably keep letting him sit the bench. In the end I guess my thoughts are even though he's in the doghouse now, if he starts playing well after the bye, he'll get out real quick.

I hear you, but what are you going to do - drop him? If you do, come week 11, you will feel like the world's biggest jack*ss.

No, I'm not dropping him unless I truly thought he was done. At this point I still think he's got some value and potential for the home stretch of the fantasy season. However, if somehow we come out of the bye and this guy is still on the shelf, he'll be about as good as gone off my team. No real reason not to start after the bye from a sprained ankle in Week 3.

I'm new to the Pierre Thomas club, but I am hoping that my luck with him will continue. For the past three seasons, I've gotten Thomas from the same guy, and the past two years it's paid off for me.

Two years ago, I gave him a receiver (I can't remember who it was, but it was someone who ended up getting cut)

Last year, he dropped him two weeks before he came back from injury.

This year, I gave him Michael Bush

 Hey bud welcome to the club. I like that kind of positive vibe!

had him in 2 leagues until yesterday .... one league i traded him straight-up for McGahee (i own Rice), & in the other i dropped him for Danny Woodhead (bench spot, i had/have enough RB depth - Foster, Best, Tomlinson, F.Jones .... ESPN league where Woodhead qualifies at both RB & WR)

just traded Tolbert for him. i couldn't bring myself to start him each week even though he's been consistent. don't have the confidence that he can keep this TD pace up.

On the bright side, he's now been officially upgraded to "Questionable". :bye:
He didn't practice yesterday - did he go today? In any event, official injury listings don't come out until tomorrow.
Weird. I was going by the MFL report, but no one else has confirmed it.CBS says his status has been changed from "week to week" to "out indefinitely". That actually sounds much worse than "Questionable".

So what to make out of this trade news? Does it mean he's almost healthy and the Saints were in part holding him out in hopes of making a trade? Or does it mean he truly is in the dog house with Payton and he's basically done his last playing in a Saints uniform?

the trade rumor was from oct 19th so i dont hink he was almost healthy then.

What a major disappointment. It was a nasty injury and it is quite apparent, and more than ever that PT does not and will not play through any type of discomfort.

It's either that or the injury was a lot worse than what people think. And the fact of the matter is injury news in today's NFL is so blurry. Teams just don't tell any inkling of truth about there players injuries for the most part. I wrote him off weeks ago. If he manages to come back this season and play well....bonus.

But he days look pretty numbered in Saints land.

Is he being placed on IR becoming an option?

Who is the rushing RB once Bush comes back? It seems like a mess to me, but I havent paid close enough attention to Ivory, Betts, and now Julius Jones.
