Planning for 2007 (1 Viewer)

I am in a 35 man roster dyno league that has 7 off + 7 idp starters. I have WW access till kickoff of week 17. This was my first year in a dyno format and it showed (5-8). I am wondering how to plan for 2007.

-are there any standouts that may shine next year but havent had the chance this year?

-should i trim the roster to studs and quality then fill the rest with hopefuls? ie: we have a 7 round draft, so there is a possibility of adding 7 rookies that will perform. or perhaps only a few will make the cut?

-any advice for an IDP noob?

Similar situation here except 42 man, 9X9 league. I was fortunate enough to get STACKED on offense and waited for what I perceived as "value" on defense (though I really didn't have a clue). Luckily, I had just enough talent on D to squeeze into the playoffs and win this week. There are 2 things I learned this year and 2 big takeaway's for next year.

Learned - this forum CAN'T be beat (no suck up, just an honest fact) and ALWAYS be up to date on depth charts. Utilize the depth chart along with the weekly Coaching Corner that Jene and other contribute to on the pinned threads to get some guidance on possible pick-ups (after you research stats and try to catch some live action).

Takeaways - I made sure my offense was set (I am young on both sides of the ball, but to me a young offense is better) while those that took LB's in the 2nd/3rd round are struggling. I am hoping to make some trades from my depth and use my 7 picks to go almost completely defense (knowing the rest of the league will be offense heavy).

To answer your questions on players - just scroll through about 10 pages and/or put in a name of a younger player in the search feature (say Omar Gaither who I snagged 3 weeks before he made his first start or Ray Edwards who these guys gave me the jump on) - you will find a wealth of info.

Lastly, there are some decent forums on the net in general but, in my opinion this particular one takes the cake.

Also know the rules of your league (I know, obvious, yadda yadda). If your league is low on tackles but high on big plays, target rookies who are capable of not only stepping in but making big plays. Vice versa as well.

For rookies, don't be afraid to take a chance on 3rd/4th/5th rounders in decent/good situations.

Examples: Stephen Tulloch in Tennessee (4th round pick. 34 total tackles in 13 games). Omar Gaither in Philadelphia (5th round pick. 36 total tackles in 13 games). Clint Ingram in Jacksonville (3rd round pick. 53 total tackles in 11 games).

I have learned to do more homework about IDP gems (like Demeco Ryans this year) coming into the league, since I can't watch college football in Scandinavia where I live. The "official" ratings and crunching stat is just not gonna be good enough anymore.

there are some questions you would need to answer for us to help you and then a few for you to answer for yourself:for us how many teams? a 16 team league with 35 player rosters is much diff then a 10 or 12 team leaguedo you have a rookie developmental squad or taxi squad?Do you have contracts? How long do you keep your players if no contracts? What do you think your points of weakness are(or lack of depth)?always remember that DB is a VERY Deep position(rookie DBs that start tend to score pretty well since they get picked on)DLs score much like TEs so if you dont have a top notch one then whats left is a lot of similar playersLBs are gold when you hit on a stud and scheme and situation can very easily out weigh talent

12 player league, and I did learn a few lessons about IDP this year such as the ones you listed. No limits on how long i can keep them, no contracts, no rookie squad or taxi. I think i am pretty good @ LB (Brooking, Crowell, A Davis, Hayes, Spikes, C Greenway) but as you said, that is the golden position. Probably need some more youth there. Looking for an up and coming LB or a flyer LB even?

edit: we start 3 LB, 2DL, 2DB

found Lemar Marshall (Wash, LB) on the WW. Ranked 38th on the FBG Dynasty rankings. Thoughts?
Marshall is definitly worth rostering. Just be aware that he is naturaly a OLB not a true MLB. He won the MLB position by default when Pierce left in free agency. He is a player that could be replaced in the offseason if the Redskins get that opportunity. You are on the right track though and keep digging. Look at players in 2-3 year windows of performance to weed out the one year wonders. There are ALWAYS IDPs who get overlooked. Moving forward from that it is key to pay attention to offseason moves that change an IDPs role and prospects. For example Witherspoon moving into MLB for the poor Lambs defense was a huge boost to an allready decent player. Vilma's switch to the 3-4 when he is a undersized ILB was not good for his production although he is still a great player. Ed Reed moving from SS to FS in the 46 defense has changed him from #1 DB to almost not worth rostering.I would pay close attention to who the Colts Saints Redskins Panthers and Lions may pick up at linebacker during the offseason for possible valuable players to emerge.
