Plaxico sees a surgeon for Ankle (1 Viewer)

Update from Sportsline...

Burress to start vs. Eagles

News: Giants WR Plaxico Burress got some good news about his badly sprained right ankle. The second opinion on the ankle showed it was nothing more than a bad sprain, and that Burress can continue his current course of treatment. Burress will continue practicing on a limited basis about one day a week and intends to play Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles at Giants Stadium. "When I feel good enough to go and practice, I'll practice," Burress said after watching Thursday's workout. Burress was examined on Wednesday by Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C. His diagnosis of a serious sprain agreed with the diagnosis of Dr. Russ Warren, the Giants orthopedic surgeon.
The AP reports that Plaxico Burress is likely to continue playing on game days despite having a "severely sprained ankle."Bad sprain and severely sprained ankle are not good words to me, their connotations are seldom associated with happy news. Plax owner and me no likey. At what point is he a sell high? I say very soon, I can see a couple missed games this year. I hope im wrong
he has had this same sprained ankle for all of his league leading 5 TDs.....I have watched him play....he never limps not even last week. He caught a ball, juked a guy, zig zagged, got plastered as he entered the endzone....got right back up. I don't know, he looks pretty healthy, if he is not healthy he is THE most dominant WR in the NFL when he gets healthy.
If he is that healthy, then why did he go to see a specialist. And to me, a "severe sprain" is not something to brush off; it is serious. It is something that could keep you out for a couple of weeks.

You go see a specialist to make sure they are not overlooking something and to make sure they are treating it right.he has had this same ankle injury since early August.......................yet looks to be playing the best of his career without a doubt.FYI....players see specialists all the time, it's just a fancy name for a doctor who knows a lot.My family and I always go to specialists.....did you think Plex was gonna go to his family doctor, get a lolipop, sticker and be on his way?

The Giants yesterday issued the following statement by Vice President of Medical Services Ronnie Barnes on WR Plaxico Burress (ankle), who did not practice on Thursday for the second day in a row:

"Plaxico and I visited with Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte yesterday. Dr. Anderson reviewed Plaxico’s MRI results and administered his own physical exam of Plaxico. Dr. Anderson confirmed our findings, which is that Plaxico has a serious sprain to his right ankle. Following the exam, Dr. Anderson conferred with Dr. Warren and it was determined that at this point, we will continue the course of treatment and therapy that we have used since Plaxico reinjured the right ankle when he was stepped on during the Green Bay game. Plaxcio will continue his modality therapy, and we will explore all options regarding the most appropriate shoes, orthotics and braces. The best prescription for this injury is rest, and as a result, Plaxico’s practice time for the immediate future will be limited. For the time being, we will continue to evaluate Plaxico’s injury on a day-to-day, week-to-week basis."

"I can’t make it any worse from a structural standpoint," said Burress. "It’s just going to be sore, which is something I have to deal with. It will be sore after the game. But I can’t make it worse than it already is, and that was the real positive thing that the doctor told me…It’s really the worst kind of ankle sprain you can have, because it’s real severe. I just have to keep trying to rehab it and trying to get better."

"There’s no question, I will play (against the Eagles)," said Burress. "It’s really frustrating, because I really want to get out there and practice. That’s what really makes me feel more comfortable going into the game on Sunday…I really don’t want to have another letdown (like I did in the first half of the Redskins game). My attention to details has to go up a little higher, my focus has to go up a little higher. Because I’m probably going to be a half-step slow, that means I have to do a little more studying to get as many advantages as I can."
