I've been looking all day for some news on him being benched. Anyone know why he was. Was it an injury or just him being a idiot?

Thanks for the info.

Not 100% sure but I think he caught the same virus as Freddie Mitchell; Suckanitis.

If that is the "official" reason for why he's benched it's just another BS Coughlin move... I didn't see Manning riding the pine, though he was the "direct cause" for 2 TO's. I didn't see the O-linemen who couldn't stand still and kept moving before the snap get benched... but then Plax has a rep, and Manning is the golden-boy-it's-everbody-else's-fault, so you can't bench him... weak excuse, for a weak coach's overreacting.

My guess is he was benched because the guy's an #######.

SEATTLE - Tom Coughlin saw all he needed to see from Plaxico Burress on two plays in the second quarter. On the first, a pass bounced off his hand and became an interception. On the second, he fumbled.

Both plays led to Seahawks touchdowns. The second miscue was the last time Burress played in yesterday's game.

The Giants' top receiver was benched for the final drive of the second quarter and the entire second half after he struggled through the first 25 minutes with an achy back. After the game he said he was healthy enough to continue, but he was playing so poorly even he knew he deserved to sit.

"I guess they could see I wasn't at full speed," Burress said. "I was fine with it. I was out there giving everything I had. It just wasn't enough."

Burress' back first tightened up on him on Thursday, and as a result he was only able to practice once during the week. The lack of preparation, coupled with the lingering injury, clearly affected his play. His only catch was the 23-yarder that he fumbled away.

"He worked hard to try to get to the point where he could play," Coughlin said. "But he didn't play well when he did have an opportunity there."

The worst play was the interception, with 10:43 left in the first half. Burress, who won last week's game against the Eagles with an overtime touchdown catch, got only one hand on a deep pass from Eli Manning and deflected it into safety Michael Boulware's hands. On the fumble, he had the ball stripped on what he called a "great play" by corner Marcus Trufant.

"It had nothing to do with my back," Burress said.

With Burress out, Tim Carter (3 catches, 43 yards) and David Tyree (5-72) became big parts of the Giants' 27-point comeback attempt in the fourth quarter. Burress stood mostly by himself on the sidelines with a visor on his head.

"I could have (kept playing)," Burress said. "But I'm not going to go out there and hurt myself in one game. It's a long season. We've still got 13 games left. I'm looking at the big picture, not just trying to go out there and trying to kill myself to get through one game."

Luckily for Burress, the Giants are off next week, giving him plenty of time to get some rest and treatment for a back that likely will be affected by two cross-country flights in two days. He might have been better off had he not even made this trip.

"I chose to go out there and play and that was the outcome of the way I played," he said. "You best believe that when I come back in two weeks I'll be ready."

You don't think that a QB is more likely to cause turnovers than a WR considering he touches the ball one very single play?

I don't know if you can get any more inconsistent than Plax, he's a great talent but he can never seem to pull it all together for an entire season.

:goodposting: At first I thought Plax deserved it, but then again, so did Eli, the O-line and the entire secondary.Plax was clearly scapegoated because of his rep.

A healthy Plax will be useful. A disgruntled, injured Plax increases the attitude problem. Take two weeks and heal yourself, then come back in week 5 to show why you should remain on the field PB!

(please!!! )

If you make yourself the kind of rep that guys like TO, Moss and Plex have, you should exect to be scapegoated when you fail to cash that check you've been offering around.

Look at the percentage of touches to TOs. I'm not trying to make excuses for not benching ELi, cuz he was bad, but PLax had 2 touches in a row that went to Seattle. On top of fumbling in the same manner last week, if not for a lucky bounce there the GMen are 0-3.He might not have been the only one that deserved to get benched, but that doesn't mean he didn't deserve to ride the pine.I also think they should fire Coughlin this week and give an interim HC the rest of the year to plead his case for '07, when much of the FO will also turnover.

Bump for new info, is Plax back starting this week ?
Dont be stupid, its a big division game. If Plax was it sit Couglin wouldnt make it out of the stadium in tact. For the tools that said Why wasnt Manning benched. Hes young for one, second noone ever questioned his work ethic. Plax fumbles because he holds the ball with ONE hand like he doesnt have a care in the world. Manning doesnt throw picks because hes lazy. Plax will play and probally do good, just a matter of time until he costs us again if he doesnt wise up though.

Ok, let's set the record straight - Plax was hurting. He was benched because he was ineffecive, in large part because of his bad back.

That is the reason. Did he look like he was not giving a full effort? Yes.

How much of this was the back, how much was Plax? Dont know. My guess is mostly back, exaccerbated by Plax.

If Plax were healthy, however, he would have been playing.

This is coming from a tried and true Giants fan with no Plax on my teams so I am utterly unbiased. He is a pain in the ###, but that is not why he was benched. He was hurting and ineffective because of it.

Um... I'd be careful throwing stones, Buddy...

So what's up with him? Buy, sell, or hold? Seems to be the buzzwords around here? What's the deal with Plax?
If he's healthy, I think he's a buy or hold. The guy is good, and Eli is really cementing himself as one of the better passers in the league. Burress is a bit of a headcase but I still think he's in for a big year.

I just bought Plax in 1 league & drafted him in the other. I think he's finally a legit WR1 this year. Last game was an aberration.

Plaxico was benched because he played horribly!

He has shown no ability to for consistent, disciplined effort for an entire game let alone a season. This is repeatedly shown by his historical performances in Pittsburgh and now in New York.

Coughlin was cutting his losses knowing that Plaxico's performance coupled with a reported injury was not beneficial to the team.

WR Plaxico Burress, who may have been removed from the Seattle game because of a bad back or because of poor play (and nobody in authority is offering any clear view into this question), should be 100 percent as well. "I didn't think I wanted to risk the rest of the season," he said, indicating that the sprained back was the problem. "It was just one game."
