2006 Player Spotlight Series

Over the course of the offseason, we will be evaluating a multitude of players at every fantasy position. One such way we go about that is through the Player Spotlight series. Think of the Spotlights as a permanent record on some of the more intriguing players for the upcoming season. Each Spotlight will be featured in an article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Bubba Franks, TE, Green Bay Packers

Player Page Link: Bubba Franks Player Page

Each article will include:

[*]Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member

[*]Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads

[*]FBG Projections

[*]Consensus Member Projections

The Rules

In order for this thread to provide sustainable value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

[*]Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player

[*]Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"

[*]To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, you MUST provide projections for the player

Projections should include (at a minimum):

[*]For QBs: Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Yards, Rush TDs

[*]For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs

[*]For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs

Best of Luck and ENJOY!

Bubba is going to be used more in the passing game according to Jeff Jagodzinski. I like him for about 3-4 catches per game.

So I'll go first here:

51 catches

450 yards

5 touchdowns

You mean, a coach is saying he's going to use a player more?

Yeah, that's always truthful.

Point is, he started off his career on fire, averaging about 7-9 TDs a season. Since then, he's been steadily on the decline. Like the upside here, but there's a huge risk involved if you're investing anything in him.

29 receptions, 225 yards, 3 TD.

i actually think Franks might be a nice sleeper this year

he is still pretty young at 28 and they dont have much behind him

farve is still there

i might actually go

600 yards 8 td 's

450 and 6 is quite possible.

Tony Fisher = gone.

Javon Walker = gone.

O-Line upgraded some from last year = less need to leave TE on the line.

His value may be a little depressed due to his 1st ever injury last year too. Out of sight, out of mind.

i have to agree with that . .i think OUT OF SIGHT - OUT OF MIND is a excelletn piont .. there are alot of TE out there that will be less valuable come the end of the season

post mini-camp, for what its worth:

"We've got to get Bubba involved in the passing game," Jagodzinski said. "The tight end should get at least five, six catches a game. Bubba is what he is. He's going to be a short-to-medium guy and I know he will do a great job on the edge for us blocking."

A lot will depend on the development of Jennings, but I'd feel comfortable predicting 3-4 catches per game if healthy, so 50-60 receptions on the year. Short to medium range... 8-10 ypr? A few red zone looks, so

55 / 500 / 6

I traded for Franks during the offseason because I believe he can get back to being a top 15 TE. My only concern is David Martin taking away some of his catches outside of the RZ.

Franks is good for

40

500

7-8
