Players that make you go 'wow' (1 Viewer)

Which players are you willing to reach for because you came away very impressed from their on-field performance? Im talking about guys that you think are bound for stardom. For me its:

1) Jamaal Charles - This guy was rediculous at the end of last season. He showed me superb athletic ability and I don't think his numbers were just result of the competition he was facing. He can just flat out play.

2) Jahvid Best - Obviously I'm only going off what he has done in college, but I think this guy is going to make a big splash in the NFL. He's got great insticts for a runner and a juke move that could break a defenders ankle.

3) Beanie Wells - I've loved this guy since he came out of college. Just an awesome combination of size and speed.

4) Felix Jones - I have no doubt that Felix will one day be a top 10 RB if he can just stay healthy.

5) CJ Spiller - Again I'm only going off college performance, but I was super impressed by what he was able to do.

6) Jonathon Stewart - This guy is going to be unbelieable once DeAngello Williams is out of the picture.

At WR I really like what I've seen from Percy Harvin, Hakeem Nicks, and Michael Crabtree.

I used to think Michael Pittman was the most electrifying runner I ever saw...guy never took a split-second off. Unfortunately that "vision-thing" got in the way of his running like a chicken with his head cut-off.

At running back:

Beanie Wells

Adrian Peterson (obviously)

DeAngelo Williams

Ronnie Brown (before all the injuries, not so much anymore)

Don't know how I fogot about Finley.. I absolutly love his talent. He'll be on a lot of my teams this year.

I also second Vincent Jackson. That dude can play. :blackdot:

I agree but the first two I thought of were Wells and Maclin.Bradford - Hard to put QBs on this list but I really like this guy. Wells, CJ (if we're including Peterson, why not?)Maclin, DezCook, FinleyIf I were to go 2 deep at QB and we're including proven studs, I'll take Peyton and Brees. Seems wrong to take these guys, but they do "wow" us.

Don't know how I left Calvin Johnson off my list.. I have a serious man crush on himI guess I ignored DeAngelo because he has already reached stardom IMO. The dude scored 18 TDs a couple years ago. If we're going to include him, we might as well include ADP and CJ2k.

Beanie

Calvin Johnson

Best

Hardesty

Finley

These lists are going to have a ton of overlap, I think. A more interesting list might be one for guys that do not pass the eye test. Is there already a thread for that?

Interesting... I never really came away THAT impressed with Hardesty. What are you seeing that I'm not?

As crazy as it sounds, Eddie Royal. What he did that first year in Denver was pretty "wow" if you go watch him a little. He seemed uncoverable and had that extra twitch you haven't seen that often in small spaces. Was a posession and a deep threat that was everywhere. So not so much the eye ball test physically, but talent wise he stood out that year. Goes to show what a coaching change and the loss of Cutler may have caused?

I guess I haven't watched him in awhile, but every time I did I came away thinking "That guy is going to be a horse in the NFL." He just looks solid in every facet of the game. He's not as exciting as Beanie or Best, but I was always impressed.

Had Hardesty on my NCAA fantasy team last year and he was so consistent. Just 18-20 points every week. You could set your watch by 100/1 and 4 catches for 30 or so, it seemed. I picture him as a workhorse NFL back too. He was one of those set it and forget it RBs you could count on for solid stats every week. Not elite performance but so dependable it almost betters a home run hitter that has off games. He just gets it done. I think this carries over and he is a staple RB up there for years to come. Can't believe Tate was going ahead of him sometimes.

I compeltely understand what you guys are saying. He does everything well and could end up being a workhorse RB in the NFL. That being said, I just don't think he is one of those players you watch on the field and go "wow"

Justin Forsett. 1st time I saw this kid I was like WOW. It was a simple catch out of the backfield but the kid looked shifty. Doubtful he can carry the load but could be a nice steal in PPR league.

Ben Roethlisberger.

Makes you go wow on the field with his throws and the way he makes tacklers bounce off him/miss in the pocket.

Makes you go wow off the field with his horrible judgment/criminal behavior

Back when Ahman Green joined the Packers I was living in Wisconsin and got to see him play. He looked great and I got him on one of my teams before he started puting up the numbers that went along with his talent.

Last year for me it was Miles Austin. Maybe I just saw the right games, but he really impressed me.

Heres an obscure one: Dennis Northcutt.

Guy looks incredible with the ball in his hands. Had he been drafted by a good team, he could have been a Desean Jackson-lite esqe player.

As a long time Chiefs fan, there is little doubt in my mind he will regress significantly or get hurt. That's just the type of luck we have.don't test karma, son. When you see a Chief show up on your Draft Dominator, remember those '80's drug ads and just say no.

Hardesty as a "wow" player? What? :wall: He's the exact opposite of what this thread is looking for, c'mon now.

Personally speaking, here's my favorite "wow" players, guys who are simply electric and a pure joy to watch:

-- Devin Hester in 2006

-- Adrian Peterson

-- Troy Polamalu

-- DeSean Jackson

-- Andre Johnson

There's a few honorable mentions for me, but those are the guys I really love to watch play.

Ben Roethlisberger.
:bag:He reminds me a lot of early-2000s Donovan McNabb in that he's a threat on any given snap to turn in a superhuman effort and essentially pull off a one-man play. Every single defender can do everything absolutely perfectly and Roethlisberger will still just do something ridiculous like shake off two tacklers and then when a third guy wraps up his legs and his bringing him down he'll throw a perfect strike into double coverage for a 20-yard gain. It's unbelievable. How does a defense even line back up after a play like that? What do they say before the next snap- "Okay, this time we'll have FOUR people tackling him and THREE people covering his intended receiver... surely that'll stop him, right?".Speaking of early-2000s Donovan McNabb, the 2002 iteration of McNabb (the one that played an entire game on a broken ankle) challenges Steve Young for "most awe-inspiring QB I've ever seen". He really gets forgotten about because he only played 10 games, but his numbers over 16 games would pro-rate to: 338 of 578 for 3662/27/10 passing, 101 carries for 736 yards and 10 scores. And he did that with James Thrash and Todd Pinkston at WR, Duce Staley at RB, and 2 years before the NFL's "point of emphasis" opened up the passing game. And fully a tenth of his season was played on a broken ankle, to boot. In 25-yards-per-point and 4-point-per-TD leagues, those numbers would be equivalent to a 5500 yard, 42 TD passing season. With James Thrash, Todd Pinkston, and Duce Staley. The guy was a one man show that season. It's really a shame that he got injured and that year gets forgotten as one of the most amazing QB seasons of our generation.

Chris Johnson

DeSean Jackson

Adrian Peterson

Calvin Johnson

Randy Moss

Charles Woodson

Greg Jennings

Jermichael Finley

Peyton Manning

Miles Austin

Donald Driver (I love how agilely he sheds tackles in the open field)

:loco:

WR Sidney Rice, Vikings.

Since his rookie year, I've seen him in Camp every year...and every year I just say "Wow." He looks so big, so fast, with stick-um on his hands. It might just be the match-ups he's had in the drills and the 7 on 7 I've watched, but he just looked like "varsity" facing the 8th and 9th graders out there. :)

Also, RB Adrian Peterson, Vikings. Saw him in Camp last year, and if you didn't see him number or watch who he is practicing with, you'd swear he was a linebacker. Only a linebacker with nearly track-star speed...who relishes the chance to bring the lumber on any poor little DB who gets in his way. He looked so big, so ripped (had his shirt off for part of the practice). I just couldn't imagine being a 185-190 pound DB in his cross-hairs along the sidelines.

Over the last two years:

Adrian Peterson is so sick to watch. It blows my mind seeing someone that big move that quick and run that fast.

Randy Moss 2008 was an untouchable human highlight reel.

Drew Brees looked unstoppable last year. When he had the ball you knew in your gut that he would drive it down the field and score.

Ricky Williams. No one believed in him - and why should they when he's an over the hill RB. I think he was a running joke after the Steelers tore his shoulder. And yet he came back another year older and dominated.

Westbrook.

ETA: Patrick Willis. If you missed the niners play the Titans last year, you missed an amazing joust between Willis and CJ4.24. Willis was all over CJ every time he touched the ball. CJ would smoke every other niners defender and have a glimpse of daylight when Willis would come from across the field to drill him. The niners are slowly becoming entertaining to watch, and Willis is a part of that.

And all the following have had some "wow" moments:

- V-Jax (so big and moves so fast, and had a few sick one handed grabs)

- Beanie (that one run against GB was so AD-like; who wouldn't want him on their fantasy team just for that entertainment potential)

- AJ (you know, I've only watched a couple Texans games, but it SHOCKS me that this guy doesn't dominate every snap. Whenever he touches the ball it is like a grown man among boys, and yet it doesn't seem like he takes control of games for some reason - just feed him the ball(!))

- Fitz (I think he was slowed down by Boldin TBH in terms of people appreciating his entertainment value - Boldin is pretty entertaining to watch, too)

He was a nice steal about three months ago. His ADP is going through the roof and I'm wondering if he's still going to even represent any value by September.

I've been watching backs come and go at Ohio State for 20+ years, some of whom have gone on to pretty solid NFL careers, but if he can stay healthy....The power, the vision, and that extra gear to break the big one...Steal of the '09 Draft, and it ain't close.

Ryan Matthews is one guy who just looks slow to me. I can see him becoming a "3-yards and a cloud of dust" guy for the Chargers. I compare the tape I watch of him and guys like Spiller and Best and the difference in talent levels are just like night and day.

I think this thread has gotten off track here. Wasn't the intent to point out guys that have YET to reach STAR status?

Mike Wallace and Bernard Scott.

Edit to add Johnny Knox and Matt Stafford.

That was my thought as well.I think it's pretty obvious that guys like CJ2k (who I professed my love for on another forum in June of 08'....yes I want my cookie), ADP, Randy Moss, etc make you go 'wow'. I think Stevie Wonder can see their talent.

But I was thinking more about guys who arent superstars yet but who really make you take notice and you may reach for them a bit during your drafts.

Guys I like

Ahmad Bradshaw

Pierre Thomas

Felix Jones

Devin Hester- (Personally wouldnt do it but obviously made you say wow as a returner and maybe a little of that makes someone reach for him at WR)

Hakeem Nicks

Homer Picks

Fred Davis- Watching practice he looks like the best athlete on the field.

Devin Thomas- Has moments where he looks like he could be a stud. Needs to be consistent and put it all together but I am more optimistic about him than many and would like to see him get an opportuntity.

Brandon Marshall. The moves after the catch are unparalled. Marshall is the one that makes you say, 'why don't other WRs do that?'

Seriously. Does anyone really need people to tell them that Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Johnson pass the eyeball test? Might as well point out that Barry Sanders and Randall Cunningham were pretty electric, too. I hear that Peyton Manning guy's actually pretty decent, as well.
