Players to buy low (1 Viewer)

Steelers, just give it up, guy. You're burying yourself in here.
Whatever you say, man. LOL it's a baseball message board on a football site. I save my meaningful posts for Sickels' site and a few other actual baseball sites. God forbid anyone questions you with actual facts - you'll just resort to one liners. I'll just wait until Carlos Lee has his next hot streak so you can bump this again... might be a while though.
or maybe not.

LOL. Came on just because I knew it was coming... OMG the guy actually hit one - for the first time in over 3 weeks. He was brutal for 2 months. He was good for 2 weeks. And then he's been bad again for another 3+ weeks.2 hits and his first HR in almost a month changes that? Nothing cures a sucky bat better than the Pirates pitching staff though. He'd be a great "buy" if he can face the Bucs for a series every week.

Season is a marathon. When you find that guy that stays hot for all 6 months of the season, let me know.

Clint Barmes: Has been coming on strong for a month.Dexter Fowler: Read comments regarding his return from the minors - completely adjusted his swing - won't help with power but should help with R, SB, AVG/OBP from here on out.Sean Rodriguez : Batting .333 over the last month with 5 HR, 19 RBI and a handful of bags.
Do you understand what low means?
You can likely pick up all three of these guys in most leagues by spending 4 minutes on the waiver wire. 3 weeks from now, they will all be gone. That IS buying low. Now if you are implying that "buy low" means ONLY "buy currently undervalued" - well - I believe all three of these guys are also currently VERY undervalued.

When I think buy low, I think of trading for a once-great player who has fallen on hard times and seen his value plummet but who you think will rise again to become a productive player. Someone like Carlos Lee.

GONEGONEGONEAnd all have been gone for a long time. These guys should all be available in your typical 8 team league

Don't be a tool. No WAY Fowler has been gone for a long time - UNLESS you are in a very shallow league that allows for a HUGE bench. Barmes maybe. He has a history. Rodriquez - possibly - he led Spring Training in HR by a wide margin - but Fowler...NO WAY he was in the minors 10-12 days ago.

All three of these guys long gone in shark leagues.

All 3 are available in my league. I would say it's a better then average league. Just not much for bench space and what we do use most have for SP.I would have to drop Kelly Johnson to make room for these guys. He has cooled way off after his hot start but not sure it's worth it for these guys.

If you want waiver-caliber numbers from here on out, he's your guy.

LOL. He sucks week after week, he hits his first two homers since early July, and it gets bumped again? God, I love this site!

After his huge 1-game exploision, Lee's July numbers sit at a very, very pedestrian:

.259 - .286 - .444 with 4 HRs and 11 RBIs

Outside of the first two weeks of June, he's been pretty much awful the entire year and nothing about his peripherals suggest that's going to change anytime soon. He's currently on pace for a 22 HR, 83 RBI season, and his batting average is "up" to about .240.

We're 2/3 of the way through the season. He is what he is... a very mediocre, very replaceable OF who'll have a few decent games, maybe another week long hot streak again. He's not startable in any weekly league, and he's barely passable in any other.

My god, let it go....

Nevermind the man with .850 OPS in August. He's worthless and sucks week after week.
Seriously? This again?Look, in one of my FIRST posts about him, I said I expected him to be a .270-.280 hitter with 15 to 20 HRs and not nearly enough surrounding talent to sniff 100 RBIs. Well, he has 17 HRs with a month to go and his average is around .250. He's not going to come anywhere near 100 RBI's, either. Looks like I actually gave him too much credit, because over the entire season so far, he had 2 good weeks in June and a couple decent ones in August... for the rest of it, he's been awful, and that kills anyone in weekly leagues. This all started because I didn't agree that he was a good buy low candidate because he's not a 30 HR, 100 RBI guy anymore, and Finless hated being doubted. To get good value in a trade FOR him, it would've had to be for dirt cheap, and if you were able to do that, fantastic. I said outfielders like him, who have around 20 HRs and 80 RBIs, are a dime a dozen and only really good for depth in a competitive league. And I stand by that. He's not what he used to be and he probably won't be again.Let it go already.

Not for nothing, but you're telling others to let it go...but he's got 5 HR, 24 RBI, .300 BA in August with a couple days to go. Weekly league or not, numbers like that help in any setup.

Those stats prorate out to 30 HR, 144 RBI, 300 BA over a full season...pretty sure you can find a spot for him.

Amazing how this is hard for some to grasp.

I think you're the one that needs to let it go. You chimed in on the morning of May 6th.Since May 6th, he's got 18 HR and 68 RBIs - That means if you bought him that day, he's has performed at a 30/112 clip. Much better than that "dime of dozen 20/80" you keep falling back onto. The .762 OPS leaves a bit to be desired, but if you were buying Carlos Lee low, you were buying him for HRs and RBIs and got exactly what you were looking for.

This type of logic, specifically the bolded, is extremely flawed in a "buy low" thread. The people who bought low on Lee don't care what he did prior to acquiring him. Since the "buy low" period, he's been excellent. Sure, his overall stats are going to be worse than they usually are. But then again if they weren't, then when would he have been performing poorly enough to buy low on him in the first place?

This post is too in-depth for him to understand. He doesn't get extrapolated numbers. 30/110 guys are a dime a dozen. I took finlets advice and I'm looking to add another bobble head to the mantle.

Been thinking about chasing after Grady, but every time I see him play, or a highlight of him, he just looks defeated.
I have zero interest in buying that guy. I know he was expected to be an elite option this year, but he looks SOOOOO bad I see no reason whatsoever to expect a turnaround. If you have the space and get him for virtually nothing then go ahead. Otherwise I'd ignore him.
