Players to target (1 Viewer)

Dr. Awesome

I generally shy away from buying studs in a slump to start the year. Not that I question whether they'll turn things around but because their value doesn't usually drop THAT much. I prefer to chase after mid-tier players that are off to cold starts. There were questions about them coming into the year and many owners will flip out since they haven't hit the ground running. I'm not saying these guys will come cheaply. Just that they're cheaper than they should be.

I also like to buy players that others think they're selling high on. Sometimes a player is flashing early season value yet other owners try to dump them before it becomes a trend.

So with that said, here are some players to buy:

McFadden. I think most people are trying to be sharks and dump this kid while he still retains any value. I think he's going to be a great choice to get 80 plus yards every week. I don't think Michael Bush is as talented as some people think. Even if he is, this team is going to run, run, and run some more. Aside from one week with the Steelers the Raiders have a great schedule.

Matt Forte. I don't think he's all that talented. I don't want him in dynasty leagues. But with Martz in town he's going to finish as a top 10 rb this year. You can get him at a lower cost than that.

Ronnie Brown. He looks fantastic thus far. I don't think Ricky looks all that great. Ronnie will get a bigger piece of this pie as the season moves forward. They're still behind a very good o-line.

Santana Moss. He's looking great and he's showing a lot of chemistry with McNabb. He's been very, very close to a big game in both weeks. His value is going to erupt very soon.

Kyle Orton. He's looking very solid thus far. He shouldn't be in your lineup unless you're in a 2 qb league, but people still laugh when they hear him starting in your lineup. Not a bad schedule and if Thomas steps up his game that only improves Orton's value. Fantastic backup and decent starter in many weeks.

Players to avoid buying low:

Ray Rice. He's going to be pretty good and will still finish top 10. But he won't get as many receptions as last year and he's still not the top option at the goal line.

MJD. Somebody is going to be wrong, either those that believe they just struggle on the west coast or those (like myself) that believe he's hurt. I'm steering clear of this guy unless somebody gives him away for pennies.

Tony Gonzalez. This is the Roddy White show. Gonzo is blocking more often and when Turner comes back he'll have an even smaller slice of the pie. His name recognition means he still commands too high a price.

I'm not saying I wouldn't buy these guys. I'd be happy to land any of them. I simply don't see their price coming down THAT much and I don't think they'll live up to pre-season expectations. I think you're buying closer to actual value than people care to admit.

I don't mean to be an ###. But why tell us who to target, if we are simply targeting players off to hot starts?

Peolpe should have been targeting McFadden at the first news of Bush's injury.

People should be dumping Forte. Aside from one TD catch, and a couple dump downs, he was useless against the Cowboys. He looks horrible running the ball. I don't know if it is him, or his line, but he shows very little burst. Has made 3 really nice catches though.

Brown is not going to be had cheap and is on schedule to break down. We should be finding someone that thinks he is an RB1, and trade him.

Moss is a good pickup. But again, now EVERYONE knows this because of how he has performed.

Orton, same as Moss and everyone else on your list.

Too many people are trying to dump McFadden now thinking he's going to suddenly lose his job (or a big part of it) once Bush comes back and/or he's going to crash back to earth. This guy has a very good chance to finish in the top 10, is likely to finish in the top 15, and yet people are selling him cheaper than that as they're trying to not get caught holding him when he starts sucking. I don't think he will start sucking.Do you think Forte won't keep getting dump offs? I see no reason to bump down his value...rather, the fact people are looking at him that way says he's a guy to buy. Why isn't Brown going to be had cheaply? It's not like he's blown up.I'd also make a move for T.O. He's #4 in targets for the year. He'll get his big games. These aren't guys that are going to be had for nothing. But imo their value is simply lower than it should be. That's all.

I do think McFadden is a very solid play from here on out. But after two big games, so does his owner. Michael Bush is not scaring owners away. Besides, they didn't give up anything to get McFadden, might was well ride it out with house money.I do think Forte will keep getting dump offs and could avg 40 rec yards a game. But after two big games, so does his owner. Find someone that things he is giong to keep tearing it up and dump him. Against Dallas, minus the TD, he had 6 points. The TO call is good, because he hasn't been blowing up. The others, not so much.

It's not often you're going to find a guy who is totally sucking that is going to suddenly start blowing up. Most of the time they'll go up or down one tier. I was throwing out guys that can usually be bought for a tier or two lower than what they should be. If Darren McFadden were a rookie his price absurd. Because his name leaves most owners with a foul taste, his value is bumped down...for no good reason. That's value.
