Ok, we all know that concussions have been a hot topic in the NFL news lately and probably everyone knows that the NFL has certain baseline tests that players must pass to be re-instated to practice later in the week or play in next wk's game.
But what I'm asking is this:
Let's say a team is playing on the road and Player X gets a bad concussion during the game (note that I said bad concussion). He is removed from the game, evaluated on the sidelines, and they take his helmet from him to prevent re-entry into the game.
Now what?
Does someone from the training staff have to sit with him at all times during the game?
What about the trip/flight getting back home?...........Do they sit with him or isolate him from the team on the trip?
Do they not let him sleep on the flight back? (I know from my own personal experience years ago when I had a conncussion that I had a really bad headache for days and sleep was the only thing that helped, but they kept waking me up....asking me basic questions)
When the team lands, does someone from the training staff drive him home?
What happens on Monday morning?
What's the best treatment? or IS there even a treatment they can use? (besides rest)
When do they do the post-concussion tests?
Who administers it?
And if the player fails it, what happens to him? Sent home immediately? Can he sit in meetings if he wants?
I know it's a lot of speculative questions, but just curious if anyone knows if teams have a standard protocol (some of these could be from a liability standpoint......like not letting them drive, etc.)
