Players you look to acquire in every single draft (1 Viewer)

Most discussed topics on FBG are potential sleepers or players who have value as they fall in the draft more than they should. But, what are the players that you are looking to acquire in every draft no matter what, even if you know you will have to draft them before their ADP. ppr or no ppr, flex or no flex, stud or no stud...you just want them on your team.

Shoot

QB Flacco. He always seems to be round 10. Great deal

RB Beanie. I love him in the 6th

WR James Jones. I really like him in the 12th round

TE Todd Heap. This screams value to me in every league.

Chris Johnson. Full speed ahead on him. If he holds out, he holds out. If he doesn't you have a player who will threaten for #1 overall at the end of the year. He's a worthy gamble.

QB - Tony Romo

RB - Willis McGahee (haven't been able to get him yet, but I try in every draft)

WR - Santana Moss, Andre Roberts

TE - Greg Olsen, Jermaine Gresham (I typically grab both of them as my only tight ends, because I think that one/both could put up solid TE1 numbers this year)

For me it's the guys later in the draft with upside. I dont want to give away my tricks :) but Andre Roberts, Marcus Easley, Ben Tate and Antonio Brown are some of my favourites.

I drafted in either the 11th or 12th hole in all three of my leagues this year, so here's who I've consistently targeted:

Darren McFadden in the 2nd round == elite talent, though you want to make sure to use an 8th or 9th round pick to handcuff Michael Bush.

Dez Bryant (4th round) - Kid has Top 10 WR potential. He may be a knucklehead, but he is the real deal. He's wearing that #88 jersey well.

Santana Moss in the 7th round. Grossly undervalued. Guy will get you 1050 yards and 6 TDs as your number 3 FF WR.

And I much as I dislike this guy, I made sure to use a 6th round pick to take Cedric Benson as a #3 FF RB. He's the only offensive weapon that the Bengals have, and his opening schedule looks pretty good from a run defense standpoint:

2011 Schedule

Sep 11 @Cleveland 1:00 pm

Sep 18 @Denver 4:15 pm

Sep 25 San Francisco 1:00 pm

Oct 2 Buffalo 1:00 pm

Oct 9 @Jacksonville 1:00 pm

Oct 16 Indianapolis 1:00 pm

Week 7 BYE

Oct 30 @Seattle 4:15 pm

Other guys I like late: Lance Moore, Plaxico Burress, Matthew Stafford, Roy Helu and Isaac Redman (Mendenhall had over 400 touches last season).

I've gotten DeAngelo in everything I've done so far. Look to snag him in this week's draft as well. They are going to lean on him for a certain.

Stoked to have gotten Ingram in every draft so far for no more than a 4th.

I realized I also have Jerome Simpson in every league too :bag:

I've drafted 9th and 11th in 2 leagues, and my teams are very similar.

Both teams have: Andre Johnson (1st), Felix Jones (3rd,4th), Percy Harvin (6th), Rob Gronkowski (9th).

I targeted Tony Romo in both drafts, but only grabbed him in 1. He went one pick before mine in the other.

I want Stafford, Fitzgerald and Blount. I NEED Ben Tate since I kept Foster this year. I'll probably reach for all of them.

Stafford, Ingram, Manningham.

If I had to pick just one it would be Stafford. I have made moves to acquire him in just about every redraft and dynasty league I play in. Even in one league where Vick fell to me in the 2nd I still grabbed Stafford in the 8th. I fully expect him to have a fringe top 5 year at QB. He will win people leagues buy giving them high QB1 production for a low QB1 price.

Romo

Felix, Wells, Hightower

Dez, Lloyd, Britt, AJ Green

Gronk

Haven't gotten all these guys in all leagues but I target them in each draft.

Stafford

Ingram

Wayne

Finley

Stafford is quickly becoming hard to get.

Ingram taking a couple days off to rest his knee is a good thing - injury paranoia is the only thing keeping him down, great combination of talent and opportunity.

Wayne is a mid Tier 1 being drafted as a WR2 because of age (31? ORLY?), Peyton's injury, career high in targets last year. I'm lovin' it.

Finley is expensive but IMO is still a value play because he gives you the potential for a tremendous scarcity edge in TE required start leagues.

Tom Brady should have another huge year as that offense looks unstoppable. Yeah you have to take him kind of early, but if someone can represent value after Vick and Rodgers, it would be him.

I like Freeman and Bradford as well. I also think Orton offers some serious late value.

Blount has very little comp for carries and should see the rock a ton.

Felix Jones looks like what we thought he could be. Scary.

I think Manningham could put up almost as good of stats as Nicks and be had much later.

Brandon Marshall may be getting overlooked a little.

Something tells me Burleson is going to have a big year in DET and put up above average WR2 numbers.

I have been pimping Jimmy Graham since last year. He will be on almost every one of my teams and I will reach for him. I am all in on this one and have finished the kool aid. Unfortunately his ADP will get higher as we keep getting closer and the cat is out of the bag, but this is the last draft you will really be able to even get a little bit of value as I expect him to be in the top 3 next year, maybe #1 TE off the board. While reaching for Graham may be tough I think he may provide WR type numbers at the TE spot which puts you ahead of the curve, maybe. Jared Cook would make a nice pairing with Graham.

Alex Henery seems like value on that offense.

BAL defense seems like some value as well.

ETA: I am also warming to the idea of having Evan Moore on my team, word is he may be the best receiver right now on that team and it seems he is listed as a TE but playing more like a WR.

I think Percy Harvin and Mike Thomas will give you WR1/WR2 numbers out of the 5th and 7th rounds in 12 team PPRs.

And I'll second Burleson - something tells me he'll be great value in late rounds.

Ended up with Stafford, Felix Jones and AJ Green on both my teams.

Felt like I had to reach just a bit to get Felix, was able to wait on Stafford since I made him my #1 while others were expecting him as a #2, and ended up with Green as he fell just due to the horrible situation in Cinci (I still like him due to his talent and the fact they're keeper leagues).

Wayne

Owen Daniels

Taiwan Jones (talking really late here). Probably can't do it after last night but I was literarly picking him up with the last 2-3 picks before last night. When if Mcfadden goes down, he offers more immediate impact value than Tate given a similar situation.

One for each position:QB, StaffordRB, TateWR, ManninghamTE, Gresham
You have been on here a long time, good posts and analysis so I have to ask  What is with the Gresham pick? Bad team with a rookie quarterback and several decent receivers (I would like Shipley more esp in PPR leagues but Simpson and Green are talented). I doubt there is any way for Gresham to be a TE1 - ie, top twelve so why give up so many points at that position? I can see it as a backup/spec play

All 3 of my leagues I came up with 3 of the same running backs, 3 different league sizes and ended up with just a different #1 running back but the same as my 2nd and 3rd RB's in Forte and Bradshaw with Fred Jackson as a backup. Those were the 3 that I was after hard early and got them all.

I just did my draft and I ended up with Wayne (3.05), Manning (4.08), Stafford (7.05) and AJ Green (9.05). Wayne, Manning and Green seem to be falling given the ADP's I had seen just prior. I'd have to think that anyone looking at drafting this week or weekend should immediately put them on their target list. I took Stafford pretty much right at his ADP but I just HAD to have him on my team even though I already had Manning. I completely agree with you on Wayne, I can't believe people are sleeping on him as much as they are. I hadn't realized it until this draft. Good call. One of the other guys I had on my list, Manningham, is rising fast he went in the 6th before I could grab him.

Pretty simply, I think Gresham is about as talented as they come as a TE. I think Dalton will look to him a great deal as a safety valve as he is learning to play in the NFL. I also think Gresham is easily the 2nd best receiving option in Cinci behind Green so the threats of Simpson and Shipley aren't a worry of mine. Most of all, Gresham can be had late. I've seen him drafted as a TE2 in many leagues and with his upside I can't see him not ending up on many of my teams. I don't think Gresham has to produce TE1 numbers to warrant his draft position. Basically he's a guy I think could be a TE1 and has great potential but can be drafted late enough to be a backup on most teams. That's why I like him and want him on my teams.

I was super high on Felix as well but all this hype is making me scared and making his value go in the tank. I still think he is a first round talent that you can get in the 3rd or sometimes later.

My list:

1. Matt Stafford- much like Felix, his preseason is driving his price up but I think this is the year he makes it worth it.

2. Garcon- been grabbing this guy in the 7th or later. Great value in my opinion. Reggie Wayne usually gets the double coverage and he is no spring chicken. Garcon is a nice WR3 with some good upside and he can be had rounds later than Wayne.

3. Owen Daniels- once the huge named TE are off the board, I like grabbing this guy who I think will have his breakout season on a high powered offense.

I've gotten Felix in both of my drafts so far, and had to reach a little bit for them (beginning of the 4th in snake, $21 in auction), and I've also gotten Calvin in both, although since he's a 1st rounder I don't know that it's possible to "target" him. Although I did jump at the opportunity to grab him.

Other guys I've targeted but not always gotten:

QB: Big Ben, Matt Ryan, Stafford

RB: Hightower, Beanie (although not enough to reach for him)

WR: Santonio, Dez, Percy, Manningham (although someone always beats me to him), Lance Moore

TE: Winslow (I think he's great value), Hernandez late

For me

QB - Freeman, Stafford and to a lesser degree Cutler: all are high-upside, low cost. One has to hit.

RB - Mark Ingram, CJ Spiller: these two guys will get a chance just based on the cost their teams paid to acquire them. Both are talented and I think present value where being drafted.

WR - Austin Collie, Mike Sims-Walker: Collie was ridiculous in the games he played last year; Manning likes him. Sims-Walker is based on my belief in Bradford and he's the only WR on the roster that has proven to be NFL worthy.

TE - Jimmy Graham, Mercedes Lewis: before last night, both were in the 8-12 range. Lewis was a stud last year and Graham looks like he will be a big player in NO.
