Playoffs Thread - Detroit V New Orleans (1 Viewer)

"Defense wins championships".LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Yeah sure..........LOLOLOLOLOL
neither team had a defense worth crap on the field.
Do you really think San Francisco's defense has any shot whatsoever at stopping the Saints offense? In today's NFL, it's offense that wins championships. Recent champs all had high powered offenses and mediocre defenses(Green Bay, New Orleans, Indiannapolis)

Not that it matters but how did the clock keep running when the Saints kneeled on it on 4th down at the end. Shouldn't the clock stop on change if possession?

Is this some kind of mercy rule. ;)

Yep, that was odd. Lions got screwed again.

tell me what is the saints' record on the road this season ?Ive posted this in another thread, so brief recap:tight wins over TEN, CAR and an overtime win over ATL (mike smith infamous decision)big wins over JAX and MINlosses to TB, STL and GBin today's NFL, offenses do not win championships. 2007- nope. 2008-nope. 2009- maybe. 2010-nope, packers had a top 5 defense in any stat imaginable.2009 saints were 2nd in turnovers created, top 5 in pass tds allowed and top 3 in picks. they were a defense that allowed good amount of yardage but made big plays, exemplified by two tracy porter picks that led to effective wins in NFC championship and the Superbowl, respectively.to quote Jon Harbaugh,"Last year's [Green Bay] team was the No. 1 defense, weren't they, that won it all? And if you look back at Pittsburgh, they won it, what two years ago, wasn't it? Weren't they the No. 1-ranked defense? The top four defenses in the league are in the tournament right now, and 38 of the 45 Super Bowl champions were in the Top 10 in defense. So, 'yes' is the answer to that -- directly."

I am sure 99% of Saints fans are awesome people, but I would be embarrassed by the actions of a few here.
Same could be said for a few Lions fans in here. It's a two-way street.HTH
That simply is not true. AE was a bit of a #####, but he is a Vikings fan. NO took it to the next level. Be proud.
The Lions fans in this thread were far more unbearable than Saints fans. I am not a fan of either team but it was just nonstop #####ing about the refs. Unbearable. What Saints fans are you referring to? Haven't you made several cryptic posts now about these people? I seriously don't know who you are talking about that is why I ask.

If it was bragging about some great performance that is cool. Brees had an incredible performance and you should be proud of how your offense performed. But no reason to be douchy and attack the other team and their fans. Simply uncalled for. Absolutely zero class. I am just saying this as constructive criticism. I was hoping that some might see it was wrong, but never-mind, carry on.

I only noticed one in particular. Dude did the work of about 10 posters, though. I wouldn't call him/her the representative stanard-bearer of the Who Dat Nation.

He started yesterday on it. Have no idea what he's talking about. Either he's just trolling or has the most ridiculously thin skin on the forum.

Stepping back from any sort of ill will that permeated the previous conversation, I think the 49ers have a more than reasonable shot at beating the Saints. What if there's a rainy, muddy track in SF? I like the 49ers chances then, actually. The Saints have lost to the Rams and the Bucs on the road. They're hardly invincible. Heck, the only time they broke thirty on grass was playing GB in Week One, and we've seen what GB can stop. Their average on grass is 27.4 points, including the shootout in GB. Take that GB game away (yeah, I know, small sample size, take one away and add one fallacy, etc.) and you're at 23.8. Not impossibly unbeatable. And they played the Titans, Bucs, Panthers, and Jags those games (though the Jags were healthy then and sported a much, much better defense than they'll go down in 2011 history for, so there's that...)But no, not unbeatable by any stretch. Now watch them go drop fifty...

GB's defense was hardly mediocre last year. In fact, it ranked higher than the offense. And yes, I think SF can slow down the Saints offense. I think New Orleans will win, but they ain't gonna put up 40+ in that muddy slop out in SF.

Uh, I was pointing to the douches with that and agreeing it's annoying. Your Lions will be back. Love it! ;)

Six yeas ago the New Orleans Saints were an abysmal franchise - 1 playoff win in 49 seasons, and only 1 pro bowl QB in their entire history. Then they traded for Drew Brees.

Very proud of the season the Lions just finished. They need to keep adding pieces, especially on defense, but it feels like with Matt Stafford leading the way, all things are possible. They'll be back to the playoffs, and next time it won't be one and done.

Every possibly inflammatory post of mine was in reaction to a worse post of a Lions fan. Those guys, jonmx and MSULions in particular were just ridiculous. Stop ####### whining, babies.

I don't know anyone that thinks the San Fran game will be easy. It will be close. I suspect a 21-27 game. Doubt we are going to hang 40+ on a quality team like that.

Just going to bookmark this for later. :blackdot:

One thing to keep in mind for those pointing to the Bucs and rams games is that our coach was knocked out early during the Bucs game and the Rams game was only two weeks later and the game planning and playcalling just wasn't the same. Once he came back we went on a roll.

:goodposting: Exactly, they remind of the Saints 5-6 years ago. This is just starting what should be a nice 5-6 year playoff run for the Lions.

That's what everyone said in 91 when we had Mitchell, Barry, Moore, etc. I hope the Lions will be back, but with Detroit, there is no guarantee.

Yeah, Mitchell wasn't there yet, not sure what I was thinking. Point being, everyone thought they had a bright futures after losing that NFC title game. Reality was they didn't win another playoff game.

There is a big difference between the '91 team and this one. This team has an elite QB and that one didn't. I was never high on the '91 team because of the lack of a great QB.
