Playoffs Thread - Pittsburgh V Denver (1 Viewer)

Steelers 20

Broncos 10

If the Steelers D doesn't force a turnover or two this will be a tough one.

Today v. the Broncos, I am looking for two things from the Steelers, both centered on running game. First, I would like to see the Steelers get their running game on track without Mendenhall. Redman has shown he has the skills to gain positive yardage and the tougher yards. They are going to need a running game to control the clock against the Patriots if they are fortunate enough to win this wildcard round. Second, I want to see their run defense start shutting down the opponent. Again, if they are going to advance, particularly against the Pats, they are going to need to play tough run defense that will allow them to double and play under against the Pats vaunted pass offense and those incredibly talented TE's. They only way to do that is to take away the running game. Much easier said than done, but the Steelers did beat the Pats in the Burgh this year.

But first things first - Denver is always a tough place to win for visiting teams, and doubly so during a January playoff game. If the Steelers can control the clock and win in this environment and stay healthy, I think a win in Denver could be the type of momentum builder that will help them make the run needed to go all the way and give the Patriots all they can handle next week. But first they have to take care of business against a scrappy and pumped up Broncos team in a wound up stadium on the road. Let's go Steelers.

I have no rationale basis for my prediction, but I think the Broncos win this thing 13-10.

Low scoring, lots of punts, field position battle with Denver's defense and home field advantage being the thing that makes the difference.

If the Steelers were healthy, I don't think this would be close.

That's the key IMO. Ben isn't 100%, Clark is out which affects Polamalu, Redman is okay but I wouldn't rely on him to win the game. If Tebow can pass better this week and the Steelers don't completely stop the run, I think Denver wins. Still, they'll have to play close to perfect.

A lot of people are claiming the Steelers are the most complete team in the NFL, but I don't see it because their OL is hot garbage. Going up against a defensive-oriented team like the Broncos, on the road out west where the Steelers are 3-8 in their last 11 games, could yield an ugly, ugly game.

Steelers 10

Broncos 6

No chance for Denver offense today. Steelers 23, Broncos 6

And then I will be in the very unusual position next week of cheering hard for a Pittsburgh win to potentially bring the AFC Championship game to Baltimore

Ironically I just read this quote this morning in a book I got for Christmas. From The Bathroom Football Book "You ever see Rocky IV when he goes to Russia?" - Hines Ward on having home field advantage in the playoff.

For whatever reason, the Steelers simply do not play well on the road out west. They don't often make such road trips. Next season will test them again with road games at Oakland and San Diego.

The Steelers average 16 points per game on the road. In their last 3 road games, they've scored 13, 3, and 13 points.

"What do you think Elway means when he says pull the trigger?"

Tebow: He just means be more aggressive...

No, he means throw the ball when receivers are open.

Is there a reason Ben has to wear two different colored shoes?

Or is this just so we remember he has a hurt ankle?

I say close game.....No mendy, hurt Ben..no clark.....Steelers had a problem scoring on the Browns...

I see a lot of Mcgahee runs and safe passes from Tebow.

Prater kicks a 57 yard FG to win 15 to 10

Frightening more than awful. In all seriousness, I am wondering if the Steelers can run with Redman.

Encroachment penalty helped the Steelers out - Running game not allowed to get started helps. Broncos need to keep going for the ankle

Simms praising that as a "pretty good throw away by Tebow"

Or he missed his open receiver by 10 yards. Either way.

Love Phil Simms - a bad play with an awful throw becomes a good "throwaway" - another few hours of this
