*** 2025 Pittsburgh Steelers: Final preseason game coming up (4 Viewers)

All the stuff I’m reading about Rodgers is negative. Every article has the same words, starting with “old” “can’t find the WR” “no chemistry with Metcalf”, “can’t throw deep.”

Combine this with what is starting to look like a very weak offensive line and it doesn’t bode very well…
This isn't reality-based. There are a ton of media people cheering against Rodgers

This is truly one of the hardest years for me to handicap. This team could be a 13 win playoff team. They could also be a 5 win team.

Obviously the truth is somewhere in the middle of there. I think they're a better team than last year. The defense is upgraded for sure and the offense is, at worst, a lateral move though I tend to think it is also improved.

Our schedule is a little tougher this year (last 6 games of the year last year notwithstanding). I could see another WC appearance, the big question really is can they get a playoff win or wins.

The fanbase likely won't stand for another one and done.

Steelers signed Andrus Peat LG/LT
Broderick Jones insurance/emergency break glass option is in the building. I'd think Omar will keep looking for a trade option from a march for arch team. Jones needs as many reps as he can get.

That is a good depth addition. I feel better about the line. Go get that WR
Unless they can pull off a deal for someone like Scary Terry, I don't think another WR is the answer.

They have nothing at flanker currently. A warm body is a huge upgrade

I'll take Calvin Austin or Roman Wilson over a re-tread NFL journeyman.

If it isn't a top guy, we have plenty of warm bodies.

I don't think either has a chance to be anything other than a liability outside

So Cam Heyward wants another "new" contract with 2 years remaining on the current one. What is the point of contracts anymore. This has gotten so out of control.

Thompson started a Playoff game at Buffalo and got very close to pulling off a major upset but was let down by his Head Coach, couldn't get the play call in on the 50 yd line
Look it up...anyways not surprised as he always looks the part preseason, wished we could have kept him and groomed him into a better back up QB

Forget the Will Howard Hype Yahya Black Deserves It. Ok I'm hyping him up.

It’s preseason, which means everyone looks good. My grandmother God rest her soul would’ve been a camp standout. But one guy who actually is living up to the buzz? Yahya Black.

The fifth-round rookie out of Iowa is making a serious case for being the steal of the draft. In his preseason debut, Black was disruptive, powerful, and relentless blowing up run plays and even tipping a pass at the line. At 6'6", 336 lbs, he moves like someone 50 pounds lighter and hits like someone 50 pounds heavier.

While Will Howard gets the headlines, Black’s performance deserves the spotlight. If he keeps this up, he won’t just make the roster he’ll be in the rotation Week 1. Less hype but Darnell Washington looked very promising.

It’s hard for me, after the year I’ve had, to justify playing at the number I’m playing at
Dude just signed a 3 year extension last season. The market for D-lineman got reset and he wants to cash in, especially since he had an all pro season. Steelers took a risk on him after a horrible injury-filled 2023 season, yet still extended him 3 years. Next time bet on yourself and sign a 1 year prove it deal. At 36, his leverage is limited, so either play or sit and lose pay.

Gimme a break already.

  • Round 1, Pick 21: Derrick Harmon, DT, Oregon
  • Round 3, Pick 83: Kaleb Johnson, RB, Iowa
  • Round 4, Pick 123: Jack Sawyer, EDGE, Ohio State
  • Round 5, Pick 164: Yahya Black, DT, Iowa
  • Round 6, Pick 185: Will Howard, QB, Ohio State
  • Round 7, Pick 226: Carson Bruener, LB, Washington
  • Round 7, Pick 229: Donte Kent, CB, Central Michigan

I'm excited for the D. Love that Omar doubled down at DT. Between Harmon and the POWERFUL Yahya Black, the interior DL future is bright.

Sawyer is a good fit long term. Brings a high football IQ and works his tail off. He's in the ideal position to learn from TJ Watt and develop into the best Edge defender he can become.

Did you see Cams interview today?

He said he told the Steelers when signing his current contract that if he made all-pro he was going to renegotiate. I think he said they laughed a little.

Of course that verbal statement isn’t binding but that’s the story.

Saw the interview, and maybe he said it to the Steelers as a joke, which is how they would have taken it anyways. Either way the comment holds no weight, just like his leverage at 36.

Yahya being pulled after 10 snaps tells me the coaches saw all they wanted to see. I like how he looks and wouldn't be surprised if they have plans for him going forward.

At this point I would just add some additional and reasonably attainable incentives for him to make additional money.

It probably wouldn’t satisfy him but it would be the fairest thing for both parties

With all this talk about Cam, what are thoughts about Chris Boswells hold-in?

Local radio said Boswell’s been golfing a lot, but that isn’t unusual for a kicker.

And it was also implied the Steelers leaked both the Cam and Boswell situation.

Longtime Pittsburgh Steelers defensive captain Cameron Heyward, amid a hold-in, strongly suggested Monday he would be willing to miss regular-season games as he seeks to renegotiate a contract extension signed in 2024. "There are definitely options out there that could reflect that," he said in his first public comments since ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Heyward's hold-in and contract request last week

Let him sit. Where's the "holding us hostage" talk that coach T made famous?

He forgets when the Steelers signed him a generous extension after a garbage 2023 season.

the situations are very different. Boswell's deal is nearing its end, Cam signed LAST YEAR. Bos is the best kicker in the NFL now, Cam is an upper 30s, solid DL who just signed a contract LAST YEAR, and is already PAID IN FULL for 2025, a year he could hit the wall and become less than average.
He is slowly ruining his rep in Pittsburgh, the only thing he can do it play ball, to save his rep.
And I dont think it helps when a guy who has made $131M and his brother is being gifted a salary by the same team, is out there talking about being appreciated, esp when everyday fans see everything around them costing more each day. I think people are just fed up.
I say cut his brother, and pay Cam the exact amount his brother would have made.

Adding performance laden incentives to the existing contract is reasonable.

Demanding a new contract at 36 after playing one season of a three year signed deal is unreasonable.

I'm almost always on the player's side, but 1 year into a 3-year extension is ridiculous. If he sucked last year he wasn't going to be giving money back this year. I'm very happy we paid Watt, and I think Bos has an argument because he's further into his contract, but I have a hard time justifying Heyward getting a pay raise at this time.

If they want to add incentives like all-pro or pro-bowl I'm ok with that because that at least means he has to keep balling out.

When Bos signed, he was paid as the top K along with Tucker in 2022. It's not okay anymore to have been the highest paid when you signed. So now some of these players want the security of a long term contract, but with the stipulation to ask for a new one every year or two due to market resets.

This is getting ridiculous to be honest. Sign shorter contracts or shutup and play. Make up your minds if you value long term financial security over shorter contracts valued higher but with more obvious risks due to injury.

I think Benz tells it like it is in this article. I also think the Steelers will capitulate.

Boswell contract runs through 2026. To me it makes sense to extend him now

Gabe Davis back for another visit. Fan favorite Roc Taylor cut.
Not too keen on him. He's in a prove it year or people will consider him washed up. I'd rather have Amari. But Gabe is 5 years younger. Hopefully Roman Wilson continues to trend upwards and then the Steeler's won't need a Gabe or an Amari.

I bet they sign Gabe Davis is he passes a physical.

I’m curious to see what they do at QB3. Howard reportedly looked good in camp but the broken finger has kept him out of preseason games. Thompson has gotten the majority of preseason snaps and for the most part has played well. They won't keep 4 on the active roster so unless they put Howard on the IR, either he or Thompson is gone.

Thompson can go, there is no need to keep him around. Howard could be ready for week 1, in whatever capacity a QB3 is needed week 1. There are still 19 days until the opener. Howard just needs to hang out, learn, work on things he needs to improve on, enjoy life. If the season goes down the tubes, let him start a few games late.

I wouldnt care either way if they sign Davis, he's be WR6, and push Scotty Miller off the team I assume, or Robert Woods. I'd rathey they keep Brandon Johnson as WR4, which they wont if the sign Davis. I just dont see any upside with that guy now. They got able bodies. And is he even that able?
