Please Read - "Who's Hottest?" Type Threads - And An Apology (1 Viewer)

I think in both cases people are being judged on appearance.   Now if you say judging a woman's looks is sexual and a man's isn't then that might be a legitimate argument.
Appearance?  I must be confused.  I thought we were talking about fantasy football projections and production.

My bad, height, weight and body type doesn't come into play at all.   I guess they are being sexual when the have them in their underwear at the combine.

I still don't understand how we're allowed to appreciate someone's intelligence, or character, or work ethic, or anything that makes them them, but appreciation of their physical beauty automatically equates to objectification.  Someone please explain.
Totally.  I'm going to go look for all the threads specifically comparing women's intelligence, character, work ethic, or anything that makes them them other than physical appearance and post links in here to show that we don't just sexually objectify women, we appreciate the full range of women's qualities in exactly the same way.

I just don't see threads posting those photos and comparing them.  I don't spend much time there, admittedly.

Remember back when the FFA used to have a Babe Bracket?  I think the last one was the year that a bunch of LABSians nominated a transgender who made it through the first couple rounds.
The FFA has always been about acceptance...

Slippery slope. Real slippery slope. And I fear there is no going back. Like others have asked. What about the avatars?

The world is too PC for me. I go out to the bar with my buddies to get away from that crap. To say and joke about whatever we want. This place was sort of like that, although it was an escape from the workday. Today it became a little less of an escape and I fear it will continue to head down that path. I'm not leaving, but I fear that as this slope gets even more slippery, I will spend less time here.

Go into the PF Sub forum..you can insult and ridicule as much as you want there...just like we do with our buddies.

“Objectification” in this context is shorthand for “sexual objectification” which our society has decided is not acceptable while “labor objectification” is.
Should it make a difference if the subject is a professional model who intentionally posts scantily clad images on Instagram to market herself?

Might as well try and lighten the mood in here with a story about that shirt....

Without even thinking about it, I put the shirt on when my Wife, daughter and I were heading out to the City Festival in 2006... As we were walking around I was getting a few looks from people as they walked past us but I didn't put two and two together until we sat down to eat.

As we were sitting there, My Father in-law came up behind us and said "well, THAT is an interesting shirt" ..
Nothing on the back explained just what I was doing to "Dominate My Friends" . :lmao:

Suffice it to say, it is only worn around the house or in Canada now.

Is the only thing you know about her the fact that she looks good scantily clad?  Because the concern is not thinking someone's hot.  It's reducing a human being or an entire gender to "hot or not."

I left the FFA for many years because of the political infighting. I was a big part of it. Then one day I realized nobody is ever going to say, "Wow, you're right. I'm switching sides." I took that wasted time arguing politics and threw it into a side hustle to make something productive with that free time. Since I've come back, I have no stepped into any of those threads.

This just feels like unneeded PC censorship. And I'm not even really a big participator in those threads. I vote every now and again, but don't comment much. I sorta feel like if I was at the bar with my buddies and the bartender overheard us talking and said, "Hey guys. Listen, I'm not comfortable with you guys complaining about your wives. Have some respect for them. If I hear any more complaints about them your cut off." I have respect for my wife, doesn't mean I don't complain about some of the things she does to my buddies.

Or reducing them to rich or not, or good athlete or not, or smart or not.  So much injustice in the world...so little time.

And to think this is how Zuckerberg started his empire.

Trivia about that Babe Bracket... its Final Four included Karen McDougal (Playmate who had the story of her affair with Trump buried by the National Enquirer during the election) and Leeann Tweeden (last year posted photos and told stories of unwanted advances from Al Franken that led to Franken resigning from the Senate).

Eric Trump used to post here several years back.

I don't know anyone in Canada other then the people I go on vacation with, who already know I am :loco:

So, no concerns of running into a neighbor or someone we know that might not understand it's a "joke"..
Ahh, I see. I thought you meant we're all so accepting we don't question things. :)

I feel like this issue is similar to libel in regards to the difference between a private citizen and public figure.  Judging a group of regular girls going to the beach seems significantly more problematic than judging women whose career is based solely on marketing their physical appearance.

As has been mentioned before, some of you guys must be really disgusted by the sports industry.  Specifically football where the players are all being reduced to height, weight, hand size, and thickness.  We don't even bother to appreciate what truly makes them human beings.  They're just objects for our entertainment.  So gross.

I can totally understand axing the 'Who's hottest" threads, but there is a difference between them and the yoga pants thread.  The yoga pants posts are almost exclusively Instagram models who have set their profiles to public with the intention of having their pictures spread throughout the internet.  Some of the girls in the "Who's Hottest" threads have been borderline legal if that and it can get creepy.

Already spending way less time here, less and less every week. Just another reason to keep do something else with my free time.

Joe doesnt want a site that is affiliated with this type of content. Whether you are rating women or gawking at them is the same to him presume.

This is where it gets tricky "for us" but not for him. I assume Joe looks at rating women as objectifying. Then..well posting pics of any women and gawking and commenting is objectifying as well. No need or place for that either.

So, even if we rated and discussed lets say...Americas next top model...where the point IS to rate the looks of a woman...i would guess that wouldnt fly in his mind either, despite it being the point of a normal show.

Its also why names of pornstars were taboo here for awhile (still are?) because FBG didnt want those names and industry associated with with FBG in any searches.

I see it like this... yes, we all objectify women at times.  Sometimes that falls on the appreciation side, sometimes its over the line, always driven by literally the greatest drive we as humans have (survival, hence procreation).

A lot of this, even parts that may be a bit unseemly, are natural.  Doesn't mean that's good per se, as violence has roots in natural behavior as well... but it is what it is.

But that doesn't mean this forum should 'encourage' it, either.  Also doesn't  mean other platforms might not be better suited for the raunchier side of things.

While hardly a perfect analogy, we make off colored jokes, even racist ones even that may be ok within some context... but won't fly here, or in other social situations. In this case, let's be honest, those threads were not knee jerk/instinctual responses to our natural desires.  They are there to objectify, comment etc in a way that can certainly be seen as degrading and at least with some lack of respect (and again, I gladly partoke, and likely will do so in other forums/situations moving forward - and most of that's probably ok, some of it? Probably not my best work)

There is no "right" or "wrong" here - and it's not about being too little or too much PC. It's about finding what is appropriate for these boards, which have always aimed for PG.  I liked those threads, but I get that perhaps its best that we move on from blatant 100% pure objectification here that borders on having little to no respect for the "person" and a level of discourse that might follow that lead.

I completely understand where he is coming from, but I respectfully disagree with part of it.

I think it should be a FFA Friday where those threads are allowed..like casual Friday.

maybe we should take a q from dyi network and instead of saying whose hottest we should say which retaining wall is the best looking and then someone like an architect like el guappo would put up four retaining wall pictures and we could vote on those suckers and start a little retainingwallguys section take that to the thinkin outside the box bank brohans

Not sure how I feel about this move as a matter of policy, but it's worth it just for the jokes in this thread.

Also, it seems to me that if someone was looking for a middle ground here they could draw a pretty clear distinction between objectifying adult women who are seeking to be objectified as a professional choice and those who aren't, yes? For example I think posting links to/discussing instagram models in the yoga pants thread or hooters waitresses or something is not remotely the same as posting a random picture of some college girls in bikinis or Halloween costumes. Obviously there would be some gray area with actresses in sexy poses and whatnot, but I think you could just err on the side of caution there without much problem.

Obviously Joe can have any kind of board he wants, just my :2cents:

Love It, or List It probably won't work either.
