Please Read - "Who's Hottest?" Type Threads - And An Apology (1 Viewer)

I think they were getting overdone. The other day I noticed it was 2/3 of the front page. I don’t have any moral standing against them of course, but they did push more interesting threads off the first page. Feels like something that could have been done a few times a week rather than 15 times a day.

While I will click on the links sometimes and am not bothered by it, those threads aren't why I come here so I am fine with this rule change.  There are tons of websites you can go to for pictures, or a lot more, of beautiful women if you are so inclined.  In fact, I’m fairly sure if they took porn off the internet there would only be one website left and it would be called “Bring Back the Porn!”.

That said, this is a good move.

That's not to say there isn't a place for appreciating a fine looking human specimen, but we've evolved past the point where the sole purpose of objectifying others purely based on physicality should be openly promoted in a more 'family appropriate' environment.
Bullcrap.  Pretending that men don't appreciate good looking women is not a "good move".

I agree with most of this, and especially the bold (and would add that women do the exact same thing).

I looked at these threads sometimes, might have even voted (though don't remember doing so).  Like someone mentioned, it was kind of interesting to see if your opinion was similar to others', and for me there was probably an added "hey, what do guys really like?" element of curiosity.  I was never offended by their existence - except for the ones from the guy who never spelled "who's" correctly - but I would cringe at some of the comments.  For the most part, I think they were a nice diversion for people from some of the heavier topics, and a way to have that "guys sitting around the bar" feel described above.

As an aside, I found the "women over 50" thread a very positive and encouraging one - not objectification so much as "Wow, look at how amazing these women are."  The "oddly attractive" thread had a similar feel and was actually the opposite of physical objectification.  It's a shame for those to be swept up in this attempt at...well, whatever it's an attempt at.
This is a great post.  I can see why the "hottest" threads could get axed.  No reason to axe the other two or ones like them. They just aren't that over the top.

I think its the objectifying of women (and men if anyone started those threads) that Joe wants to eliminate from the collective conversation here.
"objectifying" implies that we are degrading the women.  Sure, maybe the less-hot girls in the who's hottest polls can be seen as being degraded.  But there is absolutely NOTHING degrading about saying you appreciate the beauty of an older woman.  Absolutely.  Nothing.

God created erections for a reason.

Can I get an "Amen"?

This is the beginning of the end.   That doesn't mean that it's a bad decision either.  Rating women probably wasn't cool.

Getting rid of the yoga pants and hot at 50 years of age threads is going too far.  I don't see the harm.  Traffic here will slow.   There is simply less reason for men to be here.
But..but..FOOTBALL!!!!1

T&A is easy to find.  I enjoyed comparing Shuke's list to mine.  Seeing how long before Christo popped in...  It was just a bunch of guys blowing of steam and doing what guys do.  a non PC place that took me away from life's more serious thoughts.  I'm sad to see it go.
Honestly, for me this had less to do with the women and more to do with the camaraderie here.  That's why I'd always post rather than just vote.

The people that just voted?  Those guys are weirdos.

I thought you were going to say erections have consequences.

Oh wait, now i'm crossing my political threads with the who's hottest threads.

If only there were a way to click something to see the next page of threads.  Hopefully @Memphis Foundry will come up with something for the next site overhaul.

Um, hate talking back to a legend here and all, but didn't I specifically say we SHOULD appreciate? But there's a time and place... maybe we've moved past that in this context is all.

I don't recall ever saying that but anything is possible. It's true those threads were once a more prominent part of the board. Under my watch. And for that, I apologize.
No need to apologize..those threads were clean and entertaining.  The stuff that goes on in the political forum is much nastier.

The day I move past appreciating beautiful women in any context is the day they put me in the ground.
