Pokemon Go (1 Viewer)

Pokevision or something like it should be integrated into the game. It just makes it more enjoyable. I caught a ninetails yesterday that I never would have seen otherwise. It was only a few blocks out of my way. I've seen a few other rare ones on pokevision but couldn't get to them in time.

The best part was a couple minutes after I caught it I heard a kid complain to his dad about how the ninetails was gone. Dad said he should have used a lure. lol. I wanted to shove mine in their face but held off.

Don't get this game sometimes.  Just wasted 4 regular pokeballs and three ultraballs (plus a raspberry) trying to catch as 215 Bulbasaur.  Most were "nice" or "great."  Most of the bigger ones (900+) that I've caught I've reeled in easily with greatballs.  I've misse Arcaine twice though.  Are certain Pokemon just tough despite CP?

I believe some are just tougher.

Everyone post the seen and caught numbers for Pokemon they've seen at least 50 of. We can get some decent data.

Pidgey - 169 out of 187 - 90.37%
Rattata - 179 out of 206 - 86.89%
Spearow - 47 out of 52 - 90.38%

Some of the most common around my area:

Pidgey - 105 out of 122, 86.07%

Rattata - 78 out of 94, 82.98%

Geodude - 64 out of 70, 91.43%

Doduo- 54 out of 62, 87.1%

Eevee - 51 out of 53, 96.23%

Ekans - 33 out of 40, 82.5%

Ponyta - 39 out of 42, 92.86%

Paras - 38 out of 47, 80.85%

And the worst ones ever, even though I give them all razz berries immediately:

Abra - 16 out of 30, 53.33%

I've heard Abra are the most likely to get away.

This is everything I've seen at least 10 times:

Pidgey - 94 out of 103 - 91.3%

Rattata - 92 out of 102 - 90.2%

Weedle - 49 out of 55 - 89.1%

Spearow - 31 out of 34 - 91.2%

Magikarp - 14 out of 14 - 100%

Caterpie - 12 out of 12 - 100%

Krabby - 12 out of 12 - 100%

Drowzee - 10 out of 12 - 83.3 %

Is there a preference for what team one chooses for battles?  i havent done a gym battle yet since i am unsure of any perks of the different teams.

Just pick a team that your friends and or family are a part of. Being om vacation with my yellow team nephew has sucked as a red team member. Wish one of us could switch

Also, agree with whoever said it ,(maybe eylive) that this game is so much better with pokevision/bliss. It makes it about the hunt, not wandering aimlessly

Bliss hasnt worked for me in days.

I am sure it as been said in here, but turning off the AR is the best thing I have ever done. Sure it was fun to see a little monster dancing around your living room, but the advantage of being able to see a Pokémon and not lose it off your screen is huge. I mean you can even be driving, say in a parking lot, see one, click on it and it will stay on your screen until you can safely park and battle

Agreed. Its also easier to catch them, not having to worry about aiming the phone and swiping, and it must save on battery, not using the camera like that. And given how quickly this game sucks up battery on long walks, that's a huge plus.

To easily hatch eggs without walking, carefully place your phone on the outer edge of the turntable in your microwave. Run it on high for 10 minutes for about 0.6k. Repeat as necessary.

They have so many bugs to iron out before they would have time to try to block things like pokevision.  But if they do, it would pretty much end my interest in the game.  I find NOTHING of value on my own just walking around, and I don't think that is only because their radar is broken.  There just doesn't seem to be much around in a lot of areas.

I just closed and reopened the app, still see the 3 footsteps next to all the nearby pokemon. Do I need to update the app periodically or something?

Updated.

They also changed how you transfer pokemon, no scrolling thank god, but its clear they didn't just want to put it with Power Up and Evolve so that people didn't do the wrong one and then complain about losing high level pokemon. So no need to scroll anymore, because they completely got rid of the blank area where originally, before it all went to ####, you would see a snapshot of the area of the map where you caught that pokemon.

My nephew just did that tonight trying to evolve a psyduck. He transfered him instead.

What did removing the footprints do. Not sure that fixes anything. If they want to get rid of pokevision, they need to give a direction.

I tried this but now my phone won't turn back on. Suggestions?

It fixed the 3 step problem. I do the same thing with bills I don't want to pay. Just tear it up and throw it away.

Earning medals should really grant you some small xp bonus. What's the point, otherwise? Idk, I'm one of those guys who doesn't get Achievements or those who are obsessed with them in video games, either. So I guess the medals aren't meant for me.  Arbitrary benchmarks that no one else cares about and gains you no advantage or recognition in the game? Nah.

Rundown of the update from Reddit:

The Awesome

  1. Avatars - We are seeing an option to customize trainer appearance (after creation)! This bodes well for future customizeability.
  2. Battle - For those who missed it, Damage Per Second (DPS) has been revamped for nearly every move in the game, bringing balance to the force. This makes combat immensely more fun. See the /researchsection for the updated DPS.
  3. Nest Shakeup - A majority of nests around the world are now spawning different species! It's great to see species variety like this, though it appears certain species (Dratini...) have been made significantly more difficult to acquire for now.
  4. Transfer Button - This button is no longer at the bottom of the Pokemon details screen! This will make transferring much more efficient. You are also prevented from accidentally transferring a 'favorite' pokemon. (nice! thanks to /u/beardie88 for this: http://imgur.com/W41dmqf)
  5. Bug fixes - Tons of bug fixes in this update, including with maps, Gyms, encounters, and memory leaks

The Unknown

  1. Damage Calculation - Apart from modifying the DPS for most moves, there appears to be a change to the damage formula itself. Details are scarce right now - research is ongoing!

The Controversial

  1. Distance Indicator (Steps) - The 'nearby' pane appears to have removed the 'steps' altogether. The last we've heard about the motivation for this controversial decision is that it was due to safety concerns. While we don't necessarily agree with this decision, we'll have to see how it plays out.
Fortunately, it at least appears that there's a silver lining:

  • It appears that Pokemon you've spotted on the map now stay on the map for roughly 300m (an increased distance)

I read that they cut down the radius about 30m for detecting pokemon though, not sure if its true. Don't see how that was a good idea. Does it effect pokevision at all? Not sure how that service actually works.

The reason why they removed the old footprints method is because their server couldn't handle the extra capacity it would take to keep it running.  Honestly, Niantic should have sold a larger portion of this game to Nintendo for better quality.  These servers are garbage.  There are a lot of little things everyone should be able to see without having to go to the Internet or use a program for.  Hidden stats are super annoying for each Pokemon.  They should either embrace pokevision or develop their own system that wouldn't crash.  I hate that I can't transfer like 30 Pidgeys at once.  Just maintaining your Pokemon in general takes several minutes instead of just a couple.  An ability to turn off the evolve animation would be nice as well when I'm XP boosting.  I don't need to see weedle evolve for the 20th time in a row.  Also, there are now a small but growing population of bots as well for the computer geeks and Niantic looks like a deer in the headlights with any solution to stop them. Some Pokemon are way overpowered and others are completely useless.  If Candy Crush sold for almost 6 Bil, this game could be worth many times that.  But they are on the verge of having a huge meltdown.  They need to get their #### together quick.

Looks like vision and bliss are RIP

Good job Niantic. I will definitely be playing a lot less now. Was going to drop some real money today to upgrade my backpack. Not doing it now.

No desire to wander aimlessly without a direction for a pidgey

Anyone else getting an XP bonus right now for catching pokemon?

The last two I caught gave me 100xp, and another 100xp listed as "bonus".

And no, I'm not using a lucky egg. Not complaining though! Hopefully it lasts for a while.
I just learned, from that Silph Road site, that you get a 100xp bonus when catching your 100th mon of a species.

I saw the +100 on a weedle yesterday, and the bonus was so unexpected because while I've caught so many, I have yet never ever ever accomplished a 'nice' or 'great' throw on a weedle, let alone an 'excellent' one.  Turns out it was just my 100th.

(side note: I really am curious whether nice/great throws are possible on weedle)

Are you on iOS?  I just downloaded an app yesterday called pokeAlert (not sure whether it exists on Android).  It works better than poke vision for me.  Only problem is doesn't really refresh an area until everything in it has expired.  Well, that and the fact you can't manually change the scan position, but that's ok with me because the range is expansive enough that it covers most area I can get to in a few minutes anyway.

ETA: It just reported a Vulpix across the street from my front door, which I was unsuccessful finding in the game, so I'm suspect about the accuracy now.

There will be another site up soon, maybe just not as good.  These guys are doing it because they were ASKED to, not an update that blocked the software from working.  I couldn't believe they took it down until this...

https://twitter.com/pokevisiongo/status/759666743115513856

Why don't they just add pokevision in the game?
That's too easy and makes way too much sense.  Honestly though, they should add it to the game.  Maybe the big Pokemon (Dragonite, Venusaur, Blastoise, Charizard) only allow on pokevision in the first evolved form.  They need something.  It's more luck than skill to catch anything without a tracking system unless you want people to drive around and look for them.

People not on Pokemon Trainer club be cautious downloading the update!!! Thousands of accounts are being "lost"! This could affect you if you have a gmail account but not Pokemon Trainer Club account!

Unfortunately I can't find a link right now, I just have screenshots someone sent me.  Basically, if you are using Google and not PTC after you download the update and log in your phone may or may not have your games username associated with your gmail account.  So it will ask you for a username, like when you first started.  If you make another username, your phone and the server will then associate that email address with your NEW username.  Meanwhile, your old account is linked to that same email address which you can't access because it is now tied to this new level one account the game just made for you.

I updated on a google account and it worked fine last night. Obviously be careful, but its not all google accounts

This company was not ready for the huge response to the game, and I don't think they understand their customers.  Pokevision is not ruining the experience, spoofers and other hacks that allow people to lvl up from their couch are.  Focus on those please.

And seriously, the local radar distance gauge is broke so the fix is to have no gauge at all, and simultaneously tell a harmless third party app to quit helping players?  Seriously clueless.

From my glance at twitter, niantic blocked all outside stuff from using their servers. So any site that claims to be able to locate pokemon right now is not going to be accurate.

Will be interesting to see if someone wants to push their buttons and hack it.

Im on android fwiw

I can't like this enough.  How the hell are legit people supposed to be able to catch enough squirtles for a Blastoise without a tracking system?  And this really takes the fun away from kids. Even living in Washington DC with a huge Pokemon population, I only can catch a few of them a day only because of Pokevision.  I take joy in telling a kid out with their parents that a squirtle is 20 feet away and they go and catch it.  He has ZERO chance now.  Meanwhile some 300 lb pimply face geek squad is catching them from his couch.  Ugh.
