I'm getting a lot more diversity in my normal spots in pokemon FWIW
Not me.

I'll get like 1 or 2 randoms a day but otherwise if I'm at home or work it's just weedle, pidgey, ratata, spearow, venonat, rinse and repeat.

Pretty much out of poke balls. Averaged about 7 balls a catch for the 3 rats, 3 pidgeys and an eevee the GF and I saw on our walk last night (most sub 100cp)

Not sure I care enough to go spend an hour or two farming balls from a series of stops I have to drive to. Definitely don't care enough to spend real $$ anymore.

Shame.

If I don't catch a pidgey or a ratata on the first try, I move on. it's not worth the balls or effort.
That's pretty much where I'm  at now, too.  It's quite interesting to watch a game with so much potential go down the toilet in such a short time.  Every single update has made it worse.

I'm glad I haven't spent a penny on it.

It definitely effects CP. Not sure if it effects type, but I suspect it does.
Yea, so hatching them at level 5 was a waste, their CPs were in the 100s.
Apparently the evidence suggests that the level is determined when the egg is obtained, not when it is hatched.  So those same eggs would've had CPs in the 100s even if the hatcher waited until he was L30.

I had a couple of hits last night that weren't even on the "nearby list".  No incense or lures, but random ones popping up around the neighborhood.   :loco:
They can't be on the nearby list before they spawn, right?

In other words, it is possible that pokemon spawn within your circle.

I also think the nearby list can lag quite a bit.  Similar to distance updates.  I think it samples every 30-60 seconds or so, rather than real-time updates.

Used my last ball in the parking lot leaving work.

Did a quick drive by on 32 stops on my way home and picked up almost 80.

The nice, great, excellent throws can still be obtained, but you have to throw a little shorter than you used to.

I saw that Niantic posted a little note on their FB page:

Trainers,

As many of you know, we recently made some changes to Pokémon GO.

- We have removed the ‘3-step’ display in order to improve upon the underlying design. The original feature, although enjoyed by many, was also confusing and did not meet our underlying product goals. We will keep you posted as we strive to improve this feature.

- We have limited access by third-party services which were interfering with our ability to maintain quality of service for our users and to bring Pokémon GO to users around the world. The large number of users has made the roll-out of Pokémon GO around the world an... interesting… challenge. And we aren’t done yet! Yes, Brazil, we want to bring the game to you (and many other countries where it is not yet available).

We have read your posts and emails and we hear the frustration from folks in places where we haven’t launched yet, and from those of you who miss these features. We want you to know that we have been working crazy hours to keep the game running as we continue to launch globally. If you haven’t heard us Tweeting much it’s because we’ve been heads down working on the game. But we’ll do our best going forward to keep you posted on what’s going on.

Be safe, be nice to your fellow trainers, and keep on exploring.

The Pokémon GO team

Figures that just as I got really good at pokeball throwing, an update comes out to change it. The far-away pokemon have become much harder to catch.

If Pokemon Go has a death knell, it will probably sound something like this.
"Pokemans"

i call them that just to bug my sons.   In fact, I try to mispronounce every single pokemans because they hate it.

Warturtle, Zubazz, Goldbats, Digit, Cub-One etc

What does third party sites have to do with quality of service?  If anything, those third party sites are around because of the lack of a quality service.  Talk about missing the boat.

Went on my second lucky egg evolve spree last night.  Given how difficult it is now at L22 to catch weedle and even pidgey, it might be the last one for a long time.

Anyway, I happened to notice that I was getting 1 candy back each time I evolved something.  Has that always been the case?  For instance, if I had 36 pidgey candies and evolved 3 pidgeys, I was left with 3 candy, not 0.  It was like getting a rebate.

Those third party sites are accessing the servers to get their info.

Yes, evolving always kicks back one candy. A simple calculation is multiply by 11 and add 1. (2 pidgeys = 23 candies needed, 3 = 34, 4 = 45)

If you have a large amount to evolve and will be transferring after evolving, there are a few Pidgey Calculators available that are helpful.

http://pokeassistant.com/ has a good calculator along with a bunch of other helpful tools.

Scan rate interval upped from 5sec to 10sec (used to be 1sec).

The result? If you're doing anything more than walking slowly, it will substantially decrease the number of spawns you will encounter. So now we can't track them.... AND if we're moving at more than a slothlike pace, we will miss the new "random-only" spawns.

It's almost like they're TRYING to make this game suck.

A few hours ago Niantic increased the scan refresh time on their API from 5 seconds to 10 seconds, doubling the time required to scan for new Pokemon in the area. This slows down 3rd party tracking apps, and breaks any that do not update to this new standard (the apps miss Pokemon if they scan on a smaller timescale).

THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THAT THIS DELAY IS LONG ENOUGH TO BEGIN EFFECTING THOSE WHO RIDE BIKES. Even at moderate biking speeds, 10 second refreshes have the potential to entirely miss Pokemon located towards the outer half of your "detection circle."

Now, if you bike and hope to catch Pokemon, you will catch fewer.

UPDATE: A guide for those who like to move. Using speeds, a 10 second update time, and a 70m distance for detecting Pokemon. Not doing the whole circular geometry thing, just giving approximate guidelines.

  • 1 m/s = Average human walking speed. Game updates every 10 meters. At this speed you only risk missing Pokemon who spawn or have already spawned more than 60 meters to your left, right, or behind you. Straight ahead is fine.
  • 3.35 m/s = Running at an 8-minute mile pace. Game updates every 33.5 meters. At this speed you can miss Pokemon that are more than 35 meters to your left, right, or back.
  • 5.55 m/s = Easy cycling speed on a bicycle. Game updates every 55.5 meters. Good luck catching anything that's not directly in front of you.
Anything faster than cycling makes it extremely unlikely to encounter wild Pokemon.

It may suck for bikers but it'll get people to stop trying to play while driving. And that's far more important.
Exactly what I was thinking.  I wonder if this was their motivation.

Playing while driving was the most efficient way to play, superior to stacked incense and lures even.

They need to fix tracking somehow, and add features/functionality soon.  Too many downgrades recently, with nothing to offset them.

my kid is spoofing his gps and it's allowing him to catch pokemon's wherever, he's currently in "Tokyo" and catching ones that aren't here in the bay area.

There are whole forums for spoofers now. At worst you catch a one hour ban.  They find dense spots with stops and do like 5 lures and incense there and rake without walking a step. This is how you can go to level 31 in about a day. Past 31 progress slows to a crawl.

My problems are far beyond communication alone now.  My problem is they consistently make updates to try to force a single type of gameplay.  Oh no, people were biking instead of walking how terrible!  Maybe don't design your game to take days of grinding to level and then try to eliminate anyone that finds efficient ways of doing it.  I don't even know what they want the point of the game to be.  Am I trying to hunt Pokemon to find them all? Am I trying to find rare ones? Am I trying to hit 40? Am I trying to control gyms?  We have no idea what their version of "the right way to play" is, yet they keep making changes to remove fun ways of playing.

Yeah, I'm not sure what their ideal version of the game is. But all these updates don't seem to be getting them any closer.

Pokemon Go has been great for dealing with awful traffic during rush hour - whether its visitng a pokestop or catching a 'mon or 2.

if I go above the 15-20 mph threshold I put down the phone and focus on road.

I'm trying to think of a bigger game disaster that had so much promise and such a massive following that is just absolutely plummeting after.

I haven't even booted my game up since they deleted the trackers.  I just enjoy following the trainwreck that it is now more than anything.

Ingress or whatever has my interest, actually a pretty fun concept.  May check that out.

ET sucked from the beginning though, right?  I guess it's only going to be the massive online games that have the ability to change on the fly.  My son and I actually had a lot of fun with this for awhile, and it's just tanked ever since.

Go to the list of pokemon you've caught.  I've got just over 200 myself.  Of those ~200, 13 have a blueish background (2 of my 14 Pidgeys, 2 of my 8 Rattatas, 4 of my 6 Oddishs, 1 of my 3 Venonats, one bellsprout, one Goldeen, and 2 eevees).  Any idea what that means?

As I said to my coworker yesterday, on the bright side soon we'll have fantasy football to obsess over.

The vast majority of their recent actions are to ease server load. It's pretty clear they did not expect this big of a response.

OMG, I was on yelp, and one of the search criteria buttons is [PokeStop Nearby]. WTF?

What's happening??

My wife is running a brand new restaurant.  They're opening up in a couple of weeks.  She's trying to figure out how to get a pokemans stop located there.

An alternative to PokeVision that seems to be working, available for Android users - Compass for Pokemon.

I just started using it today so don't know how accurate it is, but it seems promising.

[hijack] what kind of restaurant? will it be open by Labor Day weekend? I'll likely be driving to Visalia from LA that Friday and will need a dinner stop. I'd be open to stopping by... especially if it's got a pokestop :bag:
