Pokemon Go (1 Viewer)

Most of these guys are going to be tough to evolve with purely the buddy system. Doable but time consuming. I'm trying to get a Muk. I need 50 candies to evolve Grimer. I started at 38 candies but still need to walk 36km to get the last 12 candies needed.

turned it on at home to see if there's room in a gym a few blocks over...Snorlax shadow on the radar!

My bathrobe wearing 9 year old, barefoot 8 year old, and I set out to look. Fast Pokemap confirmed one in the area but didn't pinpoint it. We tried an intersection that spawned a rare one once before. Sure enough! 3 berries and 4 ultra balls bring him home.

Kids were jacked...and I was pretty excited too. good times.
Snorlax is my white whale. I still haven't seen one

I'm beginning to think I'm really unlucky at this game.

Due to my job location (big city lots of stops, gyms and Pokemons) and my commute - 2 hours on bus and 15-20 minutes walking and playing with my kids I play the game a lot.

I'm at level 24 now.  I've still only ever had two 10k eggs.  Also, I've never seen: Arcanine, Snorlax, Gyrados, Dragonites, Exeggutor - those are always the top Pokemons in the gyms around me.  I don't get how all these other people have these - I wa nowhere close to evolving any of them until the buddy system came out - just not sure if it's dumb luck or maybe all of these other players are level 25 and above??

I may have a heart attack if/when I catch one of those.

Headed to Disney World this weekend.  I've heard it's a Meca of Pokemon.  I've heard they had any pokestops taken down.

ill report in.

I think I have only hatched two 10k eggs as well and I am going to be level 23 in the next day or so. So I don't know.

I use my unlimited incubator to hatch my 2k eggs just to clear them out and I spend $$ to usually have one more incubator at any given time that I use on 5k eggs.

But I did get my first ever Goldeen two days ago from a 5k egg so that was pretty cool.

I am at 83/83 on my Pokedex.

So I often turn on the game and leave it running when I'm driving into work.  I can typically get maybe 1 km registered for eggs (and now for my buddy) on my commute into work.  At a light this morning, I look down, and there he was in my tracker bar.....a big, fat, SNORLAX!!  Only the 2nd one I've ever seen, and I'm on level 27.  Pull off into sidestreet (legally!), and find a little gravely spot to park to determine my next move....and there it happened.  He popped up on my screen!  With question marks!  Having only 8 balls left in my bag I knew I had to be careful.  Threw him a raspberry, he liked it.  Went straight to great balls, of which I had 4.  First two miss him completely.  Third one wasn't great, but gets him.  One roll, two roll....and this point I'm pretty certain he'll get out and I'll have to move up to the only ultra ball I have.  But it rolled a third time!

GOT HIM!  Next screen pops up, and he's a CP2242, currently my strongest pokemon.  Now he's only an IV of 61, but considering the only other one I have has a CP of just 43, I don't really care.

Side note - given the extreme scarcity of this type of pokemon, I should make him my buddy for these specific candies, right?

What you catch is really location-dependent. If you're always playing in the same places (at work, on the bus route, etc) then you're only going to end up catching the stuff that spans at those spots. Someone who works five miles down the road and takes a different bus might be catching a whole different set of pokemon every day.

I've gotten drawn in a bit after being purely the chauffeur. I've had some good luck just checking now and again lately. This week I've grabbed: a Blastoise, Cloyster, and was driving the kids when we hauled in an Onix. They think I have some magic touch as I was the driver when they caught their Snorlax.

Wow, I don't even have a squirtle. :kicksrock:

I'm level 28, and until recently 10K eggs were really rare. I've posted earlier in the thread how few I had come across. But recently I've been getting them frequently. Here's my list:

Aerodactly 1438cp/82% IVs
Onix 468cp/87% IVs
Eevee 600cp/89% IVs
Electabuzz 1188cp/89% IVs
Dratini 523cp/73% IVs
Aerodactly 1201cp/82% IVs
Scyther 1182cp/98% IVs
Eevee 580cp/78% IVs
Chansey 344/cp73% IVs
Pinsir 1179cp/84% IVs
Jynx 972cp/96% IVs

The only ones from that list that I haven't caught out in the wild are Aerodactyl and Chansey.

I've never seen an Arcanine, and have only caught two out of three Growlithe's I've seen. I've never seen a Gyrados or Dragonite either. Only seen and caught one Snorlax but he's only 941cp.

I have a 2199cp Exeggcutor that I evolved and he's currently been holding a level 10 gym as the 2nd highest pokemon for over a week now. So perhaps, even if you see all those pokemon that you don't have in gyms, those that do have them in gyms only have that one unique one.

As I'm walking more now, I've learned where "hotspots" are on the path I take next to a river. I've caught four wild Dratinis and three of them from the same hotspot. That hotspot also produces Slowpokes, Psyducks, Poliwags, Staryus, Goldeens, and quite a few Magikarps. There are some other spots along the river that produce Magikarps and the others, but not at the rate the hotspot does, and I've only found one Dratini elsewhere (not along my walking path). I now change my walking path so I pass by the hotspot a few times on my walk. I usually get something from it, and now have 220 Magikarp candies. Two weeks ago I might have had two dozen or so and thought I would never get to 400.

I agree with others that hitting different areas is important, but sometimes life isn't that flexible, so it's nice to learn about your area more and try to reap the best that you can out of it.

Holy shiitake!

disney world is a Mecca of Pokemon go.   Pokestops and gyms everywhere.  Tons of evolved Pokemon showing up too.  Caught a tentacruel and a gloom and I caught what has to be a top level pincer.

Not everyone has those pokemon but everyone who does has them in a gym. Honestly something needs to be done so that there's a greater variety of pokemon in gyms. It's boring seeing the same guys in gyms everywhere. I don't fight in gyms very much largely for that reason. I can win the battles. It's just boring

So I am at the local high school football game last night. I see a short fat woman wearing an oversized pink shirt. I think, "hey, she's a Jigglypuff."

Later on that same woman yelled some obseneties at the refs, and I thought, "no, no... she's a Wigglytuff."

They need to fix the tracking.  I saw a Snorlax and a Charizard on my grid last week and walked all over the place before they disappeared.  Haven't really picked up the game since.  Will play again today to test out the buddy system, but interest is waning.
Same. I fired it up last night to see if it's gotten any more interesting only to find a Pidgey on my radar.

Guess not.

Ok, so I just entered the twilight zone again. Im in Toronto for world cup of hockey. Im inside the air canada center. Open pokemon go and it puts me in San Diego. I know it because the pokestops were petco park and the tony gwynn statue.

WTF

I was thinking about where this game ranks among my most played games ever. I'm fairly sure it's in my top 5. I haven't been a big gamer since my high school days. This is easily my most played game since then in terms of hours played.

And I love the buddy system. This is going to keep me playing a lot longer. For a while I felt I could only make progress playing at a popular spot with multiple active lures. Now I'm a lot more satisfied just walking around and playing on my own. The progress is slow but it's going towards the pokemon I choose which makes a tremendous difference.

how many pokemon do you keep of each? bag is getting close to full
I keep one of everything I catch or evolve, then let the rarer ones or strong ones that will evolve into something good pile up. Everything else gets sent to the professor's glue factory.

The milage tracker on this thing is hilariously bad. My fitness tracker in my phone had me at over 6 miles walked today. I didn't have the GO ap running the entire time but it was probably on 70% of the time. At the absolute least, it was on 50% of the time.

The ap clocked me at 1/2 a kilometer, which is, at most, 1/10th of what it should have. (Assuming I had the application running for half of my walk today).

No point in trying to hatch eggs or get candies with the buddy system if the game refuses to track me.

I only really keep pokemon that I plan on evolving or using in gyms. Usually I will just transfer immediately after catching something. I tend to have around 100-125 pokemon most of the time.

From what I understand, it only updates distance once every four minutes, and it's a direct line from your current position from your previous position. So for example, if you walked away two minutes and then walked two minutes back to your original spot, you would get 0.00 km traveled. Or if you walked away two minutes and then turned 90 degrees and walked another two minutes, you would only get the diagonal distance and not the entire path you traveled. If you were going 3.75 MPH around a quarter mile track, you'd get credit for nothing, because the app would update at the exact same spot every single time.

might explain some of it, but not all of it. Right off the train, I walked 1.7 miles pretty much straight uptown. (Penn station to a restaurant near Lincoln Center) Even using that process, I should have gotten credit for nearly all of that distance.  It was basically a straight shot right up 8th avenue.

I'm speculating.... but servers have been really crappy the last week or so... that might keep your distance updates from registering.

How is your GPS coverage?

Curious...were you catching pokes along the way? I keep walking while I catch, and it feels like I don't get credit for some of that walking (my character usually runs ahead on the map).

I finally had a gym hold up long enough to collect a second time...that was one of my last remaining goals for the game. It's inside a cemetery tucked behind a strip mall, and my Arcanine made it a level 5.

It doesn't make sense at all.  It is tracking your location the entire time but it doesn't record the distance traveled.

I've gotten to the point I know longer care to keep a "living pokedex" by holding onto one of each. If they're interesting or something I might use in "battle" down the road, I'll hold onto them. Otherwise, they're off to the candy factory. I try to keep a lot of space to collect fodder for mass evolves.

I increased my space up to 350 by now.  I have over 50 pokemon over 1400 CP and those are tough to send off to the glue factory.

I think there has to be something up with the tracking right now.

Have my Dratini buddy with me and he was stuck on 1.7km for like 4 days. Then after driving into work this morning he's suddenly up to 2.4km.

And the egg I started incubating either before or right after I got the Dratini buddy has a whopping .85km on it.

Yeah, I'm up to 300 myself, with with 9 over 2000, and another 34 over 1500, it's hard to throw them away like that.  Even worse was figuring out the whole IV thing.  I mean I have a 1425 Vap with an IV of 87, but I have 10 Vaps with higher CPs.

I caught a 100 IV eevee

mutated into a vaporeon   watergun/aqua tail

was thinking of keeping 1 of each pokemon I don't use with the highest IV.. not sure how useful that really is. half of them ill never use

so I have a 100%IV snorlax

zen headbutt & hyperbeam

only problem is his weight 317 (XS)

does the weight make him ####ty as a defender or attacker? I did the appraisal and the dude was talkn #### about my snorlax weight

should I bother powering him up?

Tell him the Snoralax is Samon..... The brother has a weight problem what's he going to do?

Weight likely means very little.  I'm powering up a IV77 Snorlax, and I don't know what his weight is.  I'd be ecstatic about a 100!

This is all so over my head.  My son has gotten into it (and me too).  We're at level 14.  We have a Pidgeot at 856, a Flareon at 723 and a Weezing at 656.

We've already figured out we have not shot at winning any battles, but what should we concentrate on powering up?

A second Snorax showed up a block away from my house a few days later...then I hatched a third out of a 10K egg (one actually worth powering up).

Last night a Pikachu spawned in the same spot I caught the Snorlaxes. I'd never seen one before, so this pushed my Pokedex to 110 caught. I'm sitting on a hidden hotspot, and they seem to spawn around 8pm local time.

I picked one up at a gamestop (couldn't believe they had it)  but haven't opened it. I might just put it up on ebay.

Caught my first Snorlax on my way to work this morning!  Low CP, but I don't care.

Pokedex at 110.  Still waiting on a Dragonite.
