What level did you guys start spending stardust?  I'm level 23 and have 261K stardust burning a hole in my pocket.  I understand that the Pokémon cap at level 30, but with level advancement so slow after level 23 is it really worth holding out for a higher level before spending stardust?

Depends on what you want to do.  If you want to fight in gyms, then go ahead and use it.  I have used a little but only on my rare guys as it's a lot tougher to catch better ones.  I'm pretty much holding for now and have used it on my Lapras and my one good Vap with Hydro Pump as it is great against a ton of guys.  I wasted some on a Venomoth and Raticate when I first started and they were my highest guys.

The worst is when you use a bunch leveling up a guy and then you catch one later with the same or higher CP.  134,758 Stardust right now for me at level 25.

Good day today. Hatched a Growlithe, which is only the 4th one I've caught. Just need 17 more candies to get my first Arcanine. Also hatched a Sandshrew which enabled me to evolve one to my first Sandslash. Then caught my 2nd Snorlax. Then hatched a 10k egg into my first Lapras. Then to top it off, hatched my 2nd Magnemite.

Whoa, great day. Caught our second Snorlax today too and had a another nearby later in the day but couldn't locate it. Found a Magmar nest and caught five of them. Then caught our first Cubone. Hatched a Vulpix and now have our first Nine Tails.

Was at the beach all week but where we stayed had virtually nothing.  Took my son out a couple times to see if we could find anything good.  He hasn't played as long as his brother who has now lost interest so he was determined to get to a higher level and he eventually did.

i didn't see anything new except got a Voltorb on my sightings but never caught one - really wanted that one as I have about 20 I can evolve now with the buddy system so finding even the low level guys is good right now.

Pokedex is still at 102.  Level 24 - will be 25 later this week.

Caught my first Snorlax on my way to work this morning!  Low CP, but I don't care.

Pokedex at 110.  Still waiting on a Dragonite.
Found a Snorlax this morning. I had to go to work this morning for some OT, and he was sitting on my front lawn. My 3rd one,  but  this one is the highest CP.

I have a 100% IV Eevee that is a CP 47 - I almost transferred it without checking it.  This IV stuff still doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

So, I've evolved about 10 Eevee and the last few the name trick hasn't worked - do I just hope for the best or does the name trick work sometimes and not others?

The nickname trick only works the first time you do it

I caught two more Snorlax today. That's three in the least two days. In the first two months prior to this, I saw and caught just one.

The last one I caught is 2069cp with 76% IVs.

Have been playing for about two months, in suburban settings, and have virtually never seen anything remotely rare, not even in sightings, much less actually had them spawn.

Dragonite - Once, in sightings while on a highway.
Lapras - Sightings/spawned once, at a highway rest stop on the way back from vacation.
Cubone, Seadra - Once each
Rhyhorn - Twice
Electabuzz - Once
Blastoise - Once
Hitmonchan/lee - Never
Charizard, Charmeleon, Venesaur, Ivysaur, Wartortle, Raichu - Never
Arbok, Sandslash, Ninetales, Wigglytuff, Vileplume, Diglet, Dugtrio, Persian - Never
Primeape, Arcanine, Poliwrath, Alakazam, Machoke, Machamp - Never
Golem, Rapidash, Magneton, Doduo, Dodrio, Dewgong, Grimer, Muk - Never
Cloyster, Electrode, Exeggcutor, Marowak, Lickitung - Never
Weezing, Rhydon - Never
Chancey, Tangela, Kangaskhan - Never
Mr. Mime, Scyther, Jinx, Magmar - Never
Porygon, Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto, Kabutops, Aerodactyl, Snorlax - Never

Have gone to parks, local malls, multiple towns in the area, all multiple times.  This is basically just a game for cities, it seems?

What level are you?  I think some things don't show up until higher levels but not positive.

Yep - that's not it.  As others have mentioned location definitely matters.  One thing you could try if  you care enough is to checkout reddit - people post spawn points for different Pokemons by city/state.
I don't care enough.  Unfortunately, my kids do, so I guess that's where I'm headed.

So it looks like they are adding new Poklemon wth each update. I see my Pokedex goes to 147 now.

Friday I pull into my home driveway. Just take a glance at the app and there it is--A Snorlax!! I run into my house and yell to my 12 year old daughter "SNORLAX!!" She comes running out the house and we proceed to walk the neighborhood. Finally we get it and I end up with a very pedestrian 330 CP one. My daughter gets one that is 1206 CP. A first for both of us. Go inside, fix dinner, as we are eating, my daughter looks at her phone and yells "Snorlax". So we bust out the door (much to my wife's dismay) and we find another one in our driveway  Mine again is a pedestrian 400 CP and my daughter gets another 1100CP one. Just weird that we go this long without ever seeing one and then we find two in a matter of a half hour.

I guess I dont open the game enough. All I ever see are pidgeys and ratatas. Never had a snorlax or lapras pop up. I hardly see evees anymore

I live in a large city yet still almost never randomly stumble upon rare pokemon. It's happened a few times, however, it's extremely uncommon. What sucks is that I know those pokemon are spawning out there. When pokevision was working I would see rare pokemon pop up from time to time. I couldn't always get to them but I knew they were out there. Without a working scanner the odds of walking into a rare pokemon are very low.

There are two very popular spots I can get to that generally have 3+ active lures. I had pretty much accepted those as the only areas I have any chance of catching something rare. With the game popularity declining and weather cooling off I think the window for even those areas is closing unless I pony up the money to keep the lures active on my own.

My pokedex is at 113. The only way I'm getting anything new currently is through the buddy system or egg hatching.

@Courtjester - I think there's 151 total.

nidoking

ponyta - had caught maybe 3 before

machop - maybe 3rd or 4th ever

We've been on a Snorlax run as well. I caught one early in the day two days ago and then saw another nearby later that day but couldn't find. I took the kids on a Pokestop run tonight and were almost home when we had another nearby. So we found this one and both kids caught it. One kid has two and one has three. (I switched accounts when I caught the one Snorlax but it didn't appear for the other kid's account.)

Snorlax definitely spawning more often here as well.  Never saw one ever caught 2 in 2 days and saw another.

Wish that would happen with Dragonite.

Just a quick Pokemon Go story.

I work for a county government in northern Michigan.  Pretty rural and I drive around A LOT!

Got out to a very small lake community, mostly summer cabins, and I find a gym.  L2, and all it had in it was a 1100ish Snorlax.  So I stop, throw in a 1016 Gengar. Collect my coins, and drive away.

That was 1 week ago.  Snorlax and Gengar are still holding down the fort.  I have no idea if anything else has been added or not (btw, is there any way to peek in on that gym from 30 miles away?) but this is strange.

Might be headed to that part of the county later today.  Check in on my money maker!

Anyone else have a long-term stay at a gym?

What a cruel game.

This morning I was walking our dog around the neighborhood. I was about 500 points away from reaching level 20, so no ultra balls in my inventory. I see a Venusaur in my sightings, appears to be down the street from our house. Stuff like that very rarely shows up in our neighborhood, so I drag the dog down the street even though she is ready to head home. I get there and start throwing raspberries at it and using the dozen or so great balls that I have left in my bag. Breaks out of every one of them. Then I'm down to about 20 - 30 regular poke balls, which I figure won't do the trick but I have to try. Keep using raspberries but again it breaks out of every ball. Broke my heart to use all of the balls and not get it. If it had just waited until later today after I reached level 20 I would have been able to use ultra balls on it. It was CP ???. :wall:

Are you just using regular tosses or spin tosses? I think curves increase catch rate.

Are you throwing when the circle is larger, or trying for smaller tosses. I KNOW catch rate increases with "Great" and "Excellent" tosses inside the circle when it's half size or smaller.

I catch all sorts of very high CP stuff with regular balls just by using curve tosses and hitting "Great" or "Excellent" tosses .

I definitely had at least a few great and nice throws among the dozen great balls I threw and still didn't hold it. I haven't mastered getting curves combined with great or excellent throws yet, seems like I usually get credit for one or the other but rarely both.

I didn't realize my Abra was as rare as it is.

not a Snoralax or a Lapris but I'm still thrilled.

hatched a Squirtle IV yesterday from a 5 K egg... Going to have a new buddy.

funny how geography plays in this game.  I have a charmander spawn at my kids school.... We get one every other every morning.

I've got several mediocre charmanders but finally have enough candy to evolve to charmeleon. I just know that as soon as I evolve, I'm going to catch a high CP charmander.

Anecdotal evidence here, but escape rate definitely seems to increase significantly for me where I have a bad data connection.  I also think that sometimes the game just decides you're not going to catch the pokemon, no matter what.  I've had situations where a 50CP pokemon escaped 10 raspberries plus great ball in a row.  I'm wondering if it happens 2-3 times, if it might be better to click the run away, then tap to capture it again.

That story is so eerily familiar.

That cannot be coincidence.  It was a Venusaur, I am L19 (probably only half-way to 20 though), great balls getting low, etc., etc.

Hmmmmmmmmmm....
Sure seems like a good way to get people to pry open their wallets!

Went to my parent's place by the beach yesterday so i could set up mom's new tablet. Hit the boardwalk afterwards with my daughter and i was shocked how many pokémon i caught that we didn't have. Omanyte, kubuto, voltorb, seel and sandslash were all added to the pokedex.

Same place where I found the Venusaur this morning produced an Ivysaur tonight. I think it was around 460 CP and I was able to capture it after only a few raspberries and a few great balls. Helps to somewhat offset the disappointment from this morning.

just caught a 96%IV dragonite. Random as can be. I live in a normal neighborhood not in the city. Walked to wawa to fuel my lip addiction and just thought id'e flip on the app. Right outside wawa just chilling was the 1700 combat dragonite. Took like 7 candies and 7 ultra balls but dude is a beast now. Used my candies i had and is now a 2151 and he isn't even maxed. By the way I'm lvl 21, maybe at most half way to 22. Quit playing for like 3 weeks this was first time turning it on since then and got him. Talk about luck

Rehoboth Beach DE had a little bit of everything.

Lol, I was near a local hotspot this afternoon and something popped up nearby in gray and I didn't recognize it. (I was guessing it was a Nidoqueen). Finally found it and it was an 1800 Dragonite. I about pooped myself and started shanking great balls to either side of him in a panic, (was out of ultra balls!), and kept feeding razz berries when he did break free. I was thinking holy ####, I've got to catch this for the kids! Haha. Locked him up in a regular ball and was elated. I found him within four blocks of where I've caught a Snorlax and a Blastoise. My seven year old freaked out and is looking at me with admiration all evening. Good stuff!

So yeah, I may have just jumped in the car to drive a few blocks over and grab a wortortle to make sure I got there before the timer ran out. In my defense, there was only like 7 minutes left and I'd never seen one (or even a squirtle) before.  :bag:
