Portis - How long is he under contract (1 Viewer)

I was a little surprised that Betts signed a 5 yr deal when he performed admirably in Portis' absence.

How long is Portis current contract , does someone know?

If it only has a year or two to run, Betts might be groomed as the successor?

Thanks

In March of 2004, Portis signed an 8 year deal worth 50.5 million. It had $17 million in bonus money.

He restructured his deal last March and supposedly has a player's out clause after 2008.

I wouldn't count on Betts being a successor. I think his deal was essentially for $2 mill/year which is good backup money (see Mike Anderson). I think a lot of people are getting carried away with the thought that Betts will split carries/eventually takeover for Portis. I'll be targetting Portis in every draft this year. Betts is an average back in a good system while Portis is an excellent back.
