He has a great matchup this week against the Sea Chickens. I would appreciate updates on how his knee is responding in practice. Also are you Portis owners keeping Betts for the duration of the Fantasy season or will you drop him?

I'm undecided on keeping Betts for Portis injurance. I probably will, but I won't be scared to replace him with someone else if a solid option shows up on the wire.

You might need to take out some Betts insurance if that is your plan:
{from yesterday's Washington Post} In his first game back, Ladell Betts aggravated the knee injury that had sidelined him for three games. Betts, who had a second-degree MCL sprain (basically a small tear), was walking gingerly last night and will be evaluated today.

I sure hope that Gingerly is the name of Betts' dog. :wolf:

Betts: No Setbacks

From Jason Reid:

Although still not completely healed, running back Ladell Betts was encouraged by his performance Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys.

Betts, who sat out three games because of a sprained left knee, rushed once for one yard and caught two passes for 27 yards.

"It felt good in warmups, felt good once I got out there, but once it got hit a couple of times I knew it wasn't a hundred percent," Betts said. "But you know, I knew it wasn't a hundred percent coming into the game.

"I don't think I had any setbacks and I'm walking around pretty good right now. I think it's going to be okay."

That was immediately after the game. Two posts above yours is a link to a Monday update on Betts.

Other than "he wasn't an injury/health concern after the game" there is no news at the moment, and probably won't be any until the team hits the practice field tomorrow.
Zorn said Portis came out of the Cowboys game better than he came out of the Pittsburgh game.
He will get a full slate of work in a must-win game on Sunday. The Cowboys are going to continue to make up ground, and TB/CAR/ATL could all finish with similar records.

I agree. Portis only has 28 carries in his last two games after averaging 22-23 carries/game in the first 8. And, oddly enough, the Redskins lost both those games. All else being equal, Zorn will want a win in Seattle more than any other game this year. Not motivated from revenge/hatred, though. His competitive fire is probably going to be sky high. And, hopefully, he recognizes that Portis is the most likely to carry him to that win. The only thing I fear is that Zorn will want to "show off" and pass way too much. But, I don't get the sense that he's that type of guy.

Never had Betts since I got Portis in a trade during the bye week. I have CJ3 & Turner, so Betts would be an afterthought for me. Heck I've had Dunn on the bench all season, I think he's done more than Betts.

any new news on Portis?
They are probably on the practice field right now. None of the beat writers have anything out yet.FWIW, here's some of what Portis said on the radio this Monday regarding the whole knee saga before Dallas:

*He said his sprained left knee started to improve on Saturday, and he did not receive a shot before the game on Sunday.

"On Friday, I didn't think I was going to play," he said. "All of a sudden, Saturday, I went out to try and plant and it didn't bother me the way I thought it would. We got the motion back in it Saturday morning. ... The excitement of the game came into play."

*He cleared up the time frame during the bye week when his knee began to hurt. Portis was in town on Thursday of bye week and was at a charity event before flying home to Florida on Friday morning.

"I was on my feet for 4-5 hours Thursday night and the flight Friday morning didn't help," he said. "There are reports that I left and didn't stick around and came back hurt. I was fine up until Friday morning. All my aches and bruises were out."

Portis added he was unable to get his knee examined in Florida during the weekend but had the MRI upon his return to Virginia eight days ago.

*He said it was ultimately Jim Zorn's decision to let him play.

"I told him I felt good about it," Portis said. "When he asked me about playing, he said he didn't want me for 10 plays and then I couldn't play. I told him if I went in, I would give him what I got. The first play, something could have happened and if I couldn't do it, I wouldn't do it."

Portis a Game-Time Decision, Again

Barry Svrluga reports:

Redskins Coach Jim Zorn said the decision on whether star running back Clinton Portis - who is battling a sprained left knee - will play Sunday will be left to the hours leading up to the game for the second straight week.

"He really is not full-speed," Zorn said. "Would love to see him go, but that'll be game-time."

Portis pledged earlier this week that he would play Sunday at Seattle, "no ifs, ands or buts about it." Last week, facing considerable questions about whether he could play against Dallas, Portis worked out on the field three hours before kickoff in order to prove to coaches and to himself that he was healthy enough. Zorn said the team would repeat those drills with Portis at Seattle. Portis, the league's second-leading rusher, participated in practice today - albeit minimally - for the first time this week.

"I'm feeling the same as I been feeling," Portis said. "I'm surviving."

Zorn said running back Ladell Betts, who missed a month with a knee injury but returned agianst Dallas, would definitely play. But Zorn added he would almost certainly keep third-string running back Shaun Alexander active because of the condition of both Portis and Betts.

"I'm hoping to see the same thing I saw, but I don't know," Zorn said. "Just have to wait and see. I thought he'd be more involved today. But it is sore. It is cold. It is windy. And it's hard to get loose. He didn't have to really work getting loose for a game [at practice], so hopefully during a game he'll be ready to go."
