I can get a corporate rate at the following hotels:
Comfort Suites Portland Airport 12010 Northeast Airport Way $98
Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel8235 Northeast Airport Way $118
The Heathman Hotel1001 Southwest Broadway $149
I assume the two airport hotels are out but what about the Heathman?
Yeah, don't stay by the airport unless you are in a hurry to leave, and you shouldn't be. Downtown Portland is great. No shortage of bars, restaurants, food carts, etc within walking distance. When you get there, pick up a copy of
Willamette Week and just peruse for things to do around you, happy hour deals, etc. Most places have great happy hours between 3-6 with cheap eats and great drinks. They'll also start that back up 9, though you don't strike me as a guy who needs to budget.
When you get up to Hood, there's a pretty decent
brewery at Government Camp. And it'd be cool to check out
Timberline Lodge. I'd recommend a day trip to Hood River, which is about 50 minutes from the ski area. Hood River is a cool town with some
nice vineyards, great
microbrewery (Double Mountain >>>>> Full Sail). If you're feeling ambitious, you can take a quick drive across the Columbia into Washington and check out
Everybody Brewing in White Salmon. If the weather isn't too bad, you can fish for Steelhead in the Columbia river. I can point you in the direction of a guided trip.
Hikes in April can be dicey due to the rain. Just be careful if it's really wet because people can and do fall off trails. If you're a good hiker,
Dog Mountain is one of the best in the area. If you want an easier hike with a great payoff, check out
Multnomah Falls or
Angels Rest.
If you're looking for good food with a teenager, you should check out
Tilt. He'll probably be starving, so they won't disappoint, but they do get crowded. Somebody mentioned Deschutes and that's a good one but I prefer
10 Barrel. I had beers there with the legendary Disco Stu and bantered with the nice looking bartender who wanted Stu's panis.
Hope the weather is decent. It's been a crappy March, which doesn't bode well for April, but the ski slopes on Hood are some of the best conditions in years. Have fun!
