Potential Hillis Trade Request? (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld just put up a report saying Hillis might request a trade, given that his contract negotiations are going poorly. Seems unlikely that CLE would part with one of their few offensive weapons. Any homers who could weigh in on the credibility of this report?

I think how the situation is playing out in Cleveland is something to pay attention to. Hillis is in the final year of his contract and his trade demands and plea for a contract are going be fairly distracting. Plus, Hardesty has looked solid sans his drops in limited playing time. I know this isn't Madden and mid-season trades aren't very common but it seems like the running back position is near the top of the list for most common positions involved in such trades. Wouldn't Hillis be a perfect fit for the Jets? I wonder what type of compensation the Browns would be looking for. Let the flaming begin...

Good idea, trade your only playmaker anywhere on offense...... I mean Hardesty is worthy of being handed the starting job in his place. Especially since we all know how durable he is.

from pro football talk

Peyton Hillis‘ agent Kennard McGuire was presumably trying to cover for his client Wednesday. McGuire — Hillis’ third agent in four months — told theAssociated Press that he advised Hillisnot to play in Week Three when Hillis sat out with a case of strep throat. McGuire’s admission likely will have the opposite effect.

The agent’s involvement only supports the belief of some Browns teammates that Hillis’ stance was contract related.

If it’s not contract related, why does an agent have to get involved at all? Isn’t it just up to the team doctors and Hillis?

Hillis wasn’t happy with his lack of usage after last week’s game. Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer believes the drama may only be starting.

Grossi opined on a video segment that he thinks Hillis will request a trade as the “next step” in the process. The contract talk is “not going well” according to Grossi, who says the Browns see Montario Hardesty as a runner with a higher ceiling

Also noted somewhere is this is Hillis' thrid agent in 4 months.

Ohio proves again it is the worst state in the entire United States. Terrible sports teams and terrible cities nobody wants to visit.

It looks like Hillis won't be on the team next year regardless, being that this year is a lost cause for the Steelers, I don't see why you'd actually care either way. :lmao:

How likely is this to happen? I would think pretty remote, but I guess anything is possible. Does this boost Hardesty's value as a possible starter soon?

If they don't plan on extending and he's going to be a problem in the locker room, wouldn't they take a 3rd or 4th rounder for him? And do collapsed contract negotiations count toward the Madden Curse?

The problem is the contract he would want from the new team. I think a team would be crazy to give any pick for him if it meant 15-20 million guaranteed contract, which is probably what a delusional hillis wants. With the NFL testing for PED's now hillis doesn't have the edge he had last season.

Who's delusional?

I don't know what's going on here, but after saying that he's confident that Cleveland will take care of him and then missing a game Hillis is looking a lot like the bad guy. As a dynasty Hillis owner, I can only hope this gets resolved quickly.

When was the NFL not testing for PED's last season? Plus, just because they are testing does not mean that there aren't players using. Despite people thinking all these players are "genetic freaks" walking around at 6'0 240 lbs and 10-12% bodyfat, it doesn't happen without PED's.

I seriously doubt Hillis is on PEDs. Some human beings are blessed physically, that's all. As far as Hillis & the Browns, it's business. You can bet they want to sign Hillis longterm. It's simply a matter of money & the salary cap.

I'd be surprised if it doesn't get done. I think they know what they have in Hillis & what they have in Hardesty. A trade wouldn't shock me because there are teams who would love to have Hillis, but they would have to agree on compensation & that can be tricky.

Hillis looks pretty much the same way he did in college. The NFL tests for virtually all PEDs that a college player would have had access to, with the exception of HGH, and Hillis does not look like a guy on HGH (Clay Matthews, on the other hand...). I'd say that I consider it possible that Hillis is a genetic freak, after all, 0.1% of people are and some of them will wind up in the NFL.

It's hard to tell what's going on.

But IF Hillis is really doing this then.... what the hell is he doing? He's stuck behind McFadden and Jones at ARK, he gets underdrafted (given what he did last year), then he gets a shot at Denver only to excel and then get dismissed and traded, he finally gets a shot in Cleveland in the right situation, has an all pro type year, finds himself in a town where he can be a working class hero, and with a high pick RB breathing down his neck he goes off on a me-first contract huff? If this is what's going on he's blowing up one heck of an opportunity and there's nothing indicating he will necessarily get another one. But I'm sure there are a lot of teams that would still love to have him at FB.

Good luck.

Agreed, I was referencing some of the other NFL players. Hillis could be using stuff, but he isn't that lean overall. Leanness isn't the best indicator but I still tend to think he isn't. Compared to guys like Adrian Wilson, Thomas Jones, and some other dudes that are carrying an unnatural amounts of muscle at lower bodyfat levels.

Players try to cash in on big years all the time. His current contract is only 600k which is a pittance by NFL starting RB standards. That said, if he listened to an agent that told him to sit out a game he is an idiot for hiring that agent and for following his advice.

The timing of the Gocong extension was certainly interesting...regardless of whether Gocong deserved what he got or not.

I rather have Hillis than DeAngelo Williams and how much did Williams get?

Wow, the only white RB who was allowed the be "the" back for an NFL team in 25 years has had some "strange" things happen to him so far this season. First, the irrational love of the new coaching staff for perpetually injured Montario Hardesty. Then, Strep Throatgate. Who has missed a game because of something like this? Hillis was seen at the stadium that morning, and then supposedly left a while later. How about this for a conspiracy theory; Hillis was told by idiotic, deluded coach Shurmur before the game that his role was being reduced in favor of Hardesty. Hillis, already on bad terms with this moronic clown, strongly objected and then eventually either left in a huff or was told to go home.

No other RB in this league would be treated in such a way by his team. The Browns are not cheap- they signed marginal players like Gocong to nice contract extensions. Why, then, are they playing hardball with their offensive star and the face of the franchise, the one player Cleveland fans adore? But then again, we have posters on this forum and others continuing to throw racist drivel out, insinuating he's on steroids or that he's slow, or that's he's a FB. Hillis ran a faster 40 time than over half the starting RBs in the NFL. He's not slow- Lagarette Blount is slow. Emmitt Smith was slow. If Smith had been white, he wouldn't have been able to start at RB for a division III college team with a 4.7 40 time. Anyone posting that Blount needs to move to FB? I don't blame Hillis was being pissed off- he's had to face this kind of discrimination ever since he was the state's top RB in high school, but somehow was unqualified to do anything but block for black RBs in college.

Shurmur is so incompetent that he is trying to turn Hardesty- one of the worst receiving backs I've ever seen- into his third down back. Hillis has probably the best hands of any RB in the entire NFL. There is no one he can get- certainly not Hardesty- who can play that role better than Hillis. Even more incredibly, Shurmur has been putting the much smaller, less powerful Hardesty in during goal line situations! That is just insanity, or pure hatred for Hillis. It's clear that Shurmur wants to gradually move Hillis into the "white" role of FB, as has been seen so far this season on several occasions, where he lined up in front of future Hall of Famer Hardesty. Now Hillis is being vilified for being selfish, as if countless black players over the years haven't sulked about their contract situations. The double standard is SO obvious.

If Hillis is not a starting RB for some NFL team at the end of this season, then I think the NFL should just rewrite its bylaws and declare that whites are not permitted to play that forbidden position.

id say this post is racist drivel.

Really? Hillis is the MVP for the Browns. DeAngelo Williams isn't even the best back in his team.

I'm talking about skill not about the value they have to their respective teams.

I was pretty surprised to find Hillis a scratch that week. I won't pretend to know the level of hatred Pat Shurmur has for crackerbacks but he seemed to be saying all the right things about Hillis to start the season. Just when Browns fans look like they have a nice set of young offensive studs the team gets squirrelly with the budget and could be chasing Hillis out of town . . . so pathetic.

One for the thread and one for the potential drama of this particular rumor.

Doesn't this look like the new agent pounding his chest? I bet they are much closer than they are letting on and he signs this week.

:goodposting: I agree with your notion that they're probably very close to re-signing him, and when that happens, Hillis will once again be the beast he was last season..

in fantasy terms, this might be the time to trade for Hillis, taking advantage of the panic-stricken owners..
