Pre 1 PIT @ ARZ (1 Viewer)

Hey Guys,

Preseason is one time of the year when TV access to games is very limited. But most games are shown in their local markets.

If you can watch a preseason game, you can be a hero for the board and let us know what you see.

Please Note: Assume with these preseason game threads that the other people in the thread aren't watching the game. Normally, these threads are full of "nice catch" posts and that's cool because everyone is watching and everyone knows what you mean. But for these, please tell us more specifically what you're seeing as if we can't see the game.

Please focus on the things that won't show up in the box score.

- who got time with the starters

- how they looked

- body language on the sidelines

That kind of stuff. Basically, post the kind of stuff you'd like to know about a game that you are not able to watch.

Thanks.

J

This game is supposed to be shown in its entirety on NFL Network from 3 - 6 PM Central time. :banned: It will also be televised on Fox Sports Pittsburgh at the same time. This may be the only time of the year that the DirecTV Sports Pack is actually worth having.

Some things I'll be watching in this game:

WR Nate Washington is the training camp darling in PIT this year -- everyone is raving about the camp he's having. He will be starting at flanker for the Steelers today, replacing Hines Ward who is out with a tweaked hamstring. I'm interested to see what Washington will do with the 1st string offense.
Interested to see how Roethlisberger looks in terms of his mobility and vision.
The rookie WRs Santonio Holmes and Willie Reed will get their first NFL game action. The camp scoop on Willie Reed has been very positive also. Curious to see who will return kicks and punts and how they look doing it.
Who will get the goalline and short yardage carries? Haynes, Staley, and Parker have split reps in goal line drills in camp, it will be interesting to see who lines up inside the 10 yard line in a game situation.
Rookie C Marvin Philip will probably play most of the game following a neck injury to backup C Chukky Okobi. I hope he will get at least one series with the first-string line.
I also want to see how the second-team linebackers look -- good buzz coming out of camp for both Andre Frazier at OLB and Richard Seigler at ILB.

This is where my main focus will be.GB NFLN for showing :towelwave: game for us Pittsburgh expatriates.

Fast Willie looking good, I think. Some nice runs, some nice burst, a solid reception or two. However, he has been pulled every third down on this first drive, so it looks like he will continue to be a 2-down back.

It will be interesting to see what happens inside the 5 on first and second downs.

Encouraging first series for the Steelers. Willie broke a tackle in the backfield for a nice gain, good 3rd down screen to Haynes, Ben playing just like pre-accident, scrambling to buy time to find his receivers. Stalled on a pass through Quincy Morgan's hands, and then a sack. Nice to see Ben jump right up afterwards.

Reed wide left from 54 on the first drive. Roethlisberger looks good. Looks like his mobility and escapeability are just about as good as you'd expect for the first preseason game.

Arizona pass rush looks good so far. Adrian Wilson almost got to Roeth in the backfield on one play but he got loose. Berry and Okeafor got to him on 3rd and 5 to end the drive though.

Warner converted three third downs. Fitzgerald twice for first downs and Johnson once. JJ Arrington now in as RB instead of Edge. Third and goal... TD another pass to Johnson!!!

Impressive drive there for Warner and Bryant Johnson. Two catches, one for a TD. Warner looks very sharp.

I'm assuming Boldin is not in this game (thought I heard that but not sure). Also, last year, didn't Warner favor Boldin moreso than Fitzy? Or am I thinking of McCown?

Boldin has been in... just not getting any passes. Three receiver sets look good for Arizona. Johnson might cloud that Boldin and Fitz WR duo!!

boldin was in he was right beside b.johnson on th td the 1st to congradulate him. they wen't with a 3-wr set the whole drive. jj in early was definitely a shocker

Batch in for the Steelers -- stood in and delivered a rocket over the middle to Cedrick Wilson on his first play, then hit Santonio Holmes on 3rd down by the sideline.

Staley in for Parker but not very effective.

Was wondering what the Arizona QBs combined for last year, looked it up:

4700 yards and 21 TDs.................and 21 INTs, not bad with most scoring systems

The Cards base offense was 3 WR's. They look best when they pass. The line seems to pass block well but not run block well. It looks like Edge might be done already. He hates the pre-season anyway.

I just wanted to let everyone know that the Cards were in a 3 WR set the entire first drive.

the Card offense was very pass-heavy. From pro-football-reference.com,|---------- PASSING -----------||----- RUSHING -----| TOTAL

CMP ATT YD YPA TD INT ATT YD YPA TD YD

419 670 4723 7.05 21 21 360 1138 3.16 2 5861

NFL rank 1 1 1 12 12 27 32 32 32 32 7

Notice the high number of pass attempts. And, how the Cards led the league in several pass categories while coming in last in 4 rush categories.

Nate Washington has looked pretty decent so far -- had a nice gain on a reverse on the first drive, and he made a nice adjustment on a deep ball there (had to accelerate to run under it) and almost hauled it in for a touchdown. FG Reed - Gardocki has held on both attempts so far, BTW.
