Top Reasons

(1) New Orleans has a subpar rushing defense of the sort I'd expect Deangelo to have success against(although they've been better the past 2 weeks).

(2) Stewart missed practice on Friday with illness and is listed as questionable. He'll play, but there's every reason to think a healthy Deangelo will get a clear majority of carries.

(3) Fox will run the holy hell out of the ball to keep the New Orleans offense off the field. Even if Deangelo shares carries 60/40, I'm projecting a minimum of 18 rushes and 3-4 receptions. That is easily enough touches for Deangelo to get an explosive play.

Against a more stingy defense, I'd give Stewart the goal line "puncher's chance" to outperform Deangelo. I'm not envisioning a lot of stingy goal line stands vs New Orleans.

I acknowledged they've had 2 good weeks in a row. The first 4 weeks I believe they were giving up 5.2 YPC. That was undeniably subpar over 1/4 of the season. Since then they legitimately stopped A.Peterson nicely on MNF and they defended the run with a big lead much of the game vs. Oakland [both home games]. If they are ranked 14th, seems like you're quibbling "mediocre" vs. "subpar."

I don't want to be disrespectful to New Orleans, but they aren't facing the horrible 1-demensional Minnesota offense this week. The 21 for 32 yards they [again] legitimately held ADP to was nice, but let's acknowledge that one game alone probably moved them from 20-25 rushing D all the way to 14th rushing D for the year. Hey, it was a great effort against Minnesota. I'll leave it at that.

Other than blind faith that Fox is being 100% honest about the status of an illness which benched a player on this very day, do you disagree that Carolina will run the heck out of the ball and Deangelo will no doubt get enough carries despite any split to have a nice game?

Didn't he say that he thinks both RB's will be used a lot this weekend? I think Fox is being 100% honest about the status of Stewart's illness. FWIW- I don't think it's material one way or another since I think Williams will get sufficient touches to have a nice game regardless of his split with Stewart. That said, out of morbid curiosity, I have to inquire why do you "think" Fox is being honest? It's a serious question... you're the 2nd person who has said this. Do you feel coaches generally are quite honest in public comments before an upcoming game? Personally, I think coaches are generally full of it on Fridays and Saturdays.

I have DeAngelo, but I'm looking at other options because

1. Saints rush defense has been pretty good lately,

2. Panthers have injuries on the Oline (RT, C).

But I'm sure they will try to run the ball as much as they can to keep Brees and Co. off the field, I just think Deangelo continues to split carries with Stewart.

Good flex option, but I'd rather go with Lendale vs Chiefs.

I don't think it impacts my analysis. This is not a "sit Stewart" thread. It's a "I think this is a nice set up for Deangelo" thread, primarily because I expect Carolina to run the ball 30-35 times. I think it will remain a nice opportunity whether Stewart gets 10-15 of those carries. For the record, I want all of you true Fox believers to start Stewart with nearly the confidence I'll have starting Williams. He's fine. There's no way this very minor stomach ailment that caused him to miss practice 48 hours before a game could affect his performance in any way, whatsoever. On this I'd wager my life based on Fox's comments.

Bernard Berrian broke open vs NO too, but ADP still got shut down.And Deangelo couldn't do better than 54 yds vs a worse ATL defense. I dont see much this game.

of all the RBBCs in the league, is there any more equal situation than CAR's? i HAVE to start deangelo- why would i have any fears starting the guy who gets the same amount of touches plus GL chances?

I could see your point if I'd projected 130/2, but I'm projecting 18/95/1 (rushing). You are right that I'd welcome Stewart being limited and Deangelo getting 25 carries, but I'm not projecting that. I can see Stewart getting 10-12. Stewart was healthy last week as far as I know yet received 6 carries vs. 11 for Deangelo.

Let's put that 3 TD game against KC in perspective.

Prior to that game Williams had 7 TDs in his 3yr career.

KCs run defense is the worst in the league at 185+- yds a game.

The guy who is going to have "another nice week" this week is Chris Johnson vs @KC (slight hijack - sorry)

I have to decide between Bernard Berrian and Deangelo. That is a tough choice and I usually err on the side of the RB in these circumstances. But, Berrian will likely go off against the Bears because their secondary is banged up and they will likely do everything in their power to keep ADP from dropping two bills on them again. Plus, Deangelo has been so darn inconsistent this year...

That is 14.16 carries/game. He has 9 catches so far so that is 1.5/game.While I am sure the Panthers would like to get an early lead and run the ball as much as 35 times tomorow you need to be realistic. The Saints are probably going to be effective with their passing game and the Panthers are not going to have the luxury of running the ball as much as you are hoping. From what others have said about Stewart there is no reason to bump up Williams number of carries because of his stomach flu or whatever it is.So where are you getting this 18 carry expectation from?The Saints have one of the best defensive lines in the league right now with Grant playing well. Vilma is a massive upgrade for them at LB. It may have taken a couple of games for them to start playing better as a unit but that has shown to be the case recently.DeAngelo Williams is a RB who can take advantage of slower defenses but I do not consider the Saints to be a favorable match up for his style. They are not as good at clogging lanes as the Bucs are (few defenses are) but I do not think they are as bad as you are making them out to be. I like DeAngelo better against 3-4 defenses or 4-3 that do not use so much cover 2 lane discipline.I really like Williams but honestly I think Stewart matches up better against this defense than Williams does.I benched Williams for Pittman due to matchup in one of my leagues. Looks like you simply disagree that Deangelo will get 18 carries on the basis that he's averaged 14.2, and sounds like you don't feel he'll be able to hurt the New Orleans defense with whatever touches he does get. This is exactly how I evaluate this game as well. NO offense too good to be afford other teams the luxury of running all day; Fox will stay on the run as much as possible, but I just don't see that lasting past the first part of the 3rd quarter. Stewart's running style is a better match for the quicker-than-big defense used by NO. I don't expect either will have a great day. If I had SSmith....now, that's different; as I'd expect a very good game out of both he and Delhomme.

From trying to figure out if I want to start Stewart or not, I noticed a trend vs. NO's defense. Balanced teams have done well offensively, but the one-dimentional offenses have not. They started off by giving up big yardage to opponents like the Redskins who are pretty equal rushing/passing. The Saints, I believe are not a good defense, but are well-coached in taking away an offense's best threat. Vs Denver (who was lighting it up through the air), the Saints D did well. Vs the Vikings (who could run on anybody) they shut down ADP and the ground game. Vs the Raiders (who can't do anything but run, and have still been successful doing it), the Saints once again shut 'em down.

The Panthers are balanced enough with Smiff in the air & DWill/Big Jon on the ground to give the Saints trouble. I'm thinking 150 yards rushing & 1.5 TDs. How much of that pie goes to each guy is anybody's guess.

I am starting DW because I have to. I dont expect to much from him. I say 12/45, 2 rec/15, and a chance for a TD. Whether he gets the TD is a big question and I lean towards I doubt it.
