Presidential Debate Thread - Obama vs. Romney (2 Viewers)

Plouffe with some interesting spin. Why do they talk to people that close with either campaign? What do you think they are going to say?

 
Tonight's debate comes down to a "?" and a "!"

Obama: That is a president of the US?

Romney: That is a president of the US!

Don't know why people are saying this; Romney is within striking distance in the swing states. According to the latest poll by National Journal, he is tied nationally and leads among independents by 8 points. And that was before tonight. I still think Obama wins, but who knows?

Open an account on intrade and buy shares on Romney in the swing states. Romney shares are selling for lower (considerably in all but Florida) than Obama's in every swing state but N. Carolina. If you truly believe Romney is within striking distance you'll stand to make a lot of money.

I had a chance to bet on this election and decided not to. But I have a feeling those intrade figures could be quite different a week from now.

I generally don't care for it when people dogpile on you around here but as much as you follow politics, it's ridiculous that one debate performance would affect your vote.

No, this makes perfect sense to me. Tim is most wishy washy wet noodle this board has ever seen. Mitt ran roughshod over the format and took charge. He did well anticipating the Lehrer wasn't going to do a thing about it. It was open season to say whatever you want. Smart move to take advantage. The thing that is stunning to me is how Mitt is lying about his position on nearly everything. He should have been buried on his tax cut proposal, but no one seemed interested in holding his feet to the fire. To see a goofball like timschochet swayed by Mitt simply denying reality was still entertaining, but fully expected. The substance and facts matter, and that's not undermined by 90 minutes of BS.

You know nothing about me, but if you had taken the time to read my posts you would recognize I've been far from inconsistent.I supported Mitt in the first place because I wanted a moderate, anti-Tea Party Republican, and that's what he appeared to be tonight. That's what I've been waiting for. I never believed his move to the right: this is the real Mitt Romney. For the record, I don't think his tax proposals make much sense either, but what difference? He'll never get them through anyhow. What he will do is attempt some sort of Simpson-Bowles type plan. And he'll cut needless regulations. And he'll repeal Obamacare. Those are the three things I took from tonight's debate. They're enough to me.

Also shocked that the 47% thing didn't get brought up.Obama not getting one annual budget passed in 4 years (2 years with both Democrat-controlled houses) should have been brought up as well. Only time in American history.

In the era of constant filibuster, this is hardly an astounding occurrence. Obama seems unwilling to point out Congress being an black hole of misery, but that explains it.

If Romney didn't have a backwards thinking policy on social issues he'd have a shot at my vote or other independant voters. But anti gay rights and women rights, and being overly religious is a deal breaker.

It is such an embarrassment for MSNBC to have this guy as a political commentator. He is the liberal equivalent of Pat Buchanan, except that Buchanan at least has some insightful poltical commentary at times. Sharpton is a racist extremist responsible for some extremely awful incidents, starting with Tawana Brawley.

Well we had to pause a bunch of times because it was hard to read out loud at the pace they were speaking but this was a big success i think. I raised my right arm when obama talked and left arm when romney did. When they said something she liked she gave that column a point. She had romney winning 79-62. she said she didnt know who was saying what except when it was obvious and she really tried to keep as neutral as possible. she said i did a great job reading and i am pooped! My wife actually has some experience in economics (home economics)so this was right up her alley. She thought the best thing romney said was about wanting to cut spending but grow the economy and not raise taxes. She liked when obama said education was important. Cant wait until the next one but i think she's going to try to be the reader but that will probably not go to well. lol. we'll see, seeya guys chicken &dumps time!

CNN 67% Romney vs 25% Obama on who won the debate.

Can't wait to watch Joe Scarborough who has been lighting Romney up every morning like a X-mas tree. He might have to give him some credit tomorrow.

Shares were trading heavy during the debate. They probably will be different a week from now, but maybe not in the direction you think it will.
