Priest Holmes to play in Week 7?

Priest Holmes, RB KC

News: Chiefs RB Priest Holmes, who hasn't played or practiced since October 2005, will begin practicing Wednesday. Kansas City coach Herm Edwards did not rule out the possibility the running back might play this week at Oakland. The former Pro Bowler has been on the ineligible list and not able to practice since he unexpectedly reported to training camp in July. Asked when Holmes, 34, might appear in a game, Edwards said, "We'll see."

Analysis: Holmes, who scored a then-NFL record 27 touchdowns in 2003, sustained neck and spinal injuries in a game at San Diego on Oct. 30, 2005, when he was hit by Shawne Merriman. Edwards said he'd have a better time frame for Holmes' return later in the week. "I'd like to see him practice first. I'll be able to answer that Wednesday after practice or Thursday," he said. Holmes likely won't do much for your Fantasy team this season, but if you need a miracle, you might consider taking a flier on him. Don't expect miracles, obviously, but you can always hope. :goodposting:

He won't play. But he was on the PUP week and this is the first week he's allowed to practice.

He'll give it a go, then decide to shut it down, then reach an injury settlement with the Chiefs.

hmmm...that must be the reason the chiefs are thinking about trading bennett , so they have no depth at all...makes sense to me

Damn, Holmes just won't go away :lmao:
 You want him to go away? Holmes was THE best back for several years and a nice guy to boot. He can't be anywhere near as good as he was a few years ago, but he return would be a nice story and I'm sure the Chiefs and their running game could use him. His presense may actually help Johnson. Can't hurt, not the way he has started the season anyway.

This is just a ploy to motivate a trade for Michael Bennett.

One has nothing to do with the other. Holmes has not participated in an NFL practice in 2 years. The Chiefs have no idea if he's ready to play or not. There's no way that they would trade Bennett without evaluating Holmes -- and that won't be possible before the trading deadline. If the Chiefs trade Bennett, it's because they have confidence in Kolby Smith.

He's an idiot for taking the chance at spending the rest of his life in a wheelchair. I wonder what his wife and kids think about his playing again?

 What is the story on Kolby Smith?

Has Homes experienced any contact at all in practices, from training camp until now?
No. He was placed on the PUP list, which means that you are not allowed to participate in ANY practices

Kolby Smith is pretty good.
What makes you say that? I have heard nothing about Kolby. Has he been impressing in practice? I don't remember him getting any playing time in games. I have genuine interest as a dynasty owner.
Even though he struggled in preseason, except for his 7/64 effort against St. Louis, he does have the pedigree. Smith has good size and speed, and also has good moves. However, having shared the load at L,ville, he hasn't lived up to his potential.

The Kansas City Star reports that the Chiefs have traded backup running back Michael Bennett to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It's a move that came out of nowhere, at a time when all rumor and speculation had linked the Bucs to Vikings running back Mewelde Moore.

The trade apparently was fueled by the availability of running back Priest Holmes, who reportedly will emerge from the non-football injury list and practice with the team on Wednesday. Holmes hasn't played since 2005.

Maybe they think priest can still play.

I guess if you need a miracle, a Priest is a decent place to look.

Even if he does make it out on the field, I don't see anywhere NEAR the production he had when he was running behind one of the best OL's in football. With the OL they have today...?

I don't think anybody expects him to be the player he was prior to the neck injury. But if you are desperate for help at the RB position (Steven J, Benson, Cadillac are my top 3 backs) and you are in an experienced league (All other logical pickups such as Michael Bennett are already on roster) at this point in the season he is the only chance you (or I) have left.

You know, given that we all agreed before the season that LJ was clearly "due" for a serious injury...

I'm not saying, I'm just saying...

I have a hard time believing they'd trade their backup based on the possibility that Priest Holmes may make a miracle comeback, when he hasn't even seen live practice, let alone game play.

And even if LJ went down, does anyone honestly believe Priest Holmes, even if by some miracle he comes back, is going to shoulder a full RB load ever again?

The name is a attractive, and I'm sure a lot of people will be drawn to Holmes this week, but Kolby Smith is actually the more sensible play.

Edwards: Holmes may play against Oakland

October 16, 2007

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Running back Priest Holmes will practice Wednesday for the first time since a severe 2005 head and neck injury.

Chiefs coach Herm Edwards repeated Tuesday there's a chance Holmes could play at Oakland.

The Chiefs traded backup running back Michael Bennett to Tampa Bay for draft picks on Tuesday, creating a spot behind starter Larry Johnson and adding to speculation they might activate Holmes in time for Sunday's game against the Raiders.

Holmes "will put the pads on. He will put the helmet on. Whether he participates in the (Oakland) game or not, we'll see how practice goes," Edwards said.

Holmes sustained neck and spinal injuries in a game at San Diego on Oct. 30, 2005, when he was hit by Shawne Merriman. He was placed on the physically unable to perform list and stayed there until he showed up at training camp in River Falls, Wis., claiming he'd seen himself playing football in a dream.

The three-time Pro Bowler, who turned 34 this month, appears to have lost about 10 pounds since July and looks fit.

Holmes is eligible to come off the inactive list this week, and the Chiefs have 21 days beginning Wednesday to either activate Holmes, place him on injured reserve or waive him.

Chiefs president Carl Peterson said he expects Holmes to be activated sooner rather than later.

"My sense right now is that he will be ready to go," Peterson said. "I've said a thousand times, those people who question Priest Holmes are very foolish. Throughout his entire career, he's always come back. When he called me last spring shortly before training camp and told me he would like to do this one more time, I felt that I owed him that opportunity."

When Holmes was healthy he was one of the most productive running backs in the NFL. He owns 18 Chiefs single-game and career records, including career marks for yards rushing (5,933), total touchdowns (83) and TDs rushing (76).

Edwards said it won't be long before he knows whether Holmes is ready.

"If he can go out there and practice pretty well, and feels OK after practice, that's good for us and for him. We'll know this week," Edwards said. "It's been three months. Either he's ready to go or he's not. Another week won't make much of a difference. He's prepared. He's been mentally into it. He's working his tail off.

"For a guy his age to go through what he's gone through over the last three months, you have to take your hat off to the guy."

Nothing to see here,,,everyone already knows that this is just another Carl Peterson ploy to motivate Larry Johnson signing a cheap long term deal and get him into training camp.
