Prior available for trade (1 Viewer)

Wouldn't you at least want to know what he has this year? Or is this a calculated attempt at cutting their losses? I mean, maybe they already know what he is capable of. I think you can never have to much starting pitching. What could they possibly get in return. The guy might be removed from his so-cal super athlete status - ahem victor conte - but isn't he at least worth another chance?

The problem with Prior is that he's had only 1 year with 30 starts in 6 seasons, pitched in only 9 games in 2006 and missed all of last year. Over the last three years that he pitched he was 18-17 with a 4.27 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.

I'm sure teams would be interested in giving him a shot, but I'm not sure he could command much in a trade given his injury history.

So they are just testing the waters. Business is business. Although, I don't really think this is news. They would have traded him last year if he had been healthy. I'm just glad they are going to give Wood a shot at closing. (The two were some of my biggest question marks for the Cub's 2008). I think he could be a perfect closer. He definitely has the demeanor.

I don't think the Cubs are just going to give him away....and I'm pretty sure that just about every team out there would give him a shot if the price was right, provided he could pass a physical exam. I think the Cubs would do well to get a decent mid-tier prospect or two for him at this point. If they had any substantial proof that he was fully healthy, no way would they make him available being that he's well rested :goodposting: He's just turned 27, and relatively low amount of major league innings. There are a few pitchers that battled health issues early in their career and turned out to be pretty decent starters.

He's a spoiled schmuck and I don't care what they do with him now. I just read that he won't be happy with a one year deal because he feels like he already took a pay cut last year. The Cubs think he should show some loyalty for the patience they have shown him the last couple of years - and he should. This is rediculous. I'm done.

What's he worth? For a team that has the financial ability to absorb a contract, he is definately worth a shot. IF he can put it together, even for one season, that gives a contending team a HUGE advantage for the playoffs and world series.

A team like the Mets, which has been in a bit of a spiral of late should take a flyer. Spend what you need because you can't find that upside outside of a Haren or Santana and with a good possibility of a lost contract, many teams wont (and cant) touch this... but the Mets could afford the mistake if they have the balls (and Wilpon the check) to take the chance.

Ok, I'll bite. What do the Mets have to trade that would be a fair trade? And since this is never going to happen just give me a good name, don't BS me.

The Mets have a number of good OF's along with some pitchers that some teams are high on, others not so much (i.e. Twins arent too high, but the A's seem to be). Pelfrey, Humber... Heilman (though I am not sure who the Mets would have in the pen) as the pitchers. OFs include Gomez, Lastings Milledge. Now, these guys are probably not quite enough to get Santana but they would be more than enough value for someone with Prior's question marks and to be honest, Id much rather go after a Haren first. But, for a discount, which may be available, I would take a shot at Prior.

He's a guy you could sign hoping he'll be a good #3... and could etiher pitch like a #1 or his arm could fall off and kill someone in the stands.

Exactly. That is why one of the "haves" can take a shot at him - upside of a stud, even if you only get one year of that, is near impossible to find on the open market. If he fails, you write it off like a bad loan.
