Props out to Mad Cow (1 Viewer)

My cheap-### sunglasses I got from Maxim magazine 2 years ago are now lost and I need a new pair. I'm feeling like I'm suddenly responsible enough to care for a real pair of shades that cost more than $20 so figured I'd drop in here. What are the lines you carry? Should I just go to the mall and find the ones I like and report back to you? These are used mostly for driving and some outdoor activities, and I would like them to be polarized. Any tips?
That is what I always recommend - see what you like and let me know. I carry a lot of major brands - Maui Jim, Costa del mar, Ray-Ban, Revo, Arnette, Killer Loop, etc a lot more. I do NOT carry Oakley.I love the MJ lenses and feel they are about the best in the market, FWIW.
I've got a pair of MJ's....holy crap, the rose lenses are awesomeGo to any high end sunglass outlet, find what you like......COW WILL SET YOU UP!!!!

what would you recommend for fishing...but still somewhat fashionable so i could wear them day to day as well. dont really have a brand preffernce, do have a smaller (thinner) head so any huge goggles dont really work for me.any suggestions would be helpful. thanks MC
You want polarized for fishing - no doubt. Look at Maui Jim, Costa del Mar and Revo for the best at those lenses.

MC - Any tips on cleaning lenses? I've got a pair of MJs that are a couple years old & need a thorough cleaning. Any insider secrets?

TIA

Warm water and a soft cloth can do well, but you might just get a regular lens cleaner solution to help.

Mad Cow hooked me up with some very cool Titanium Maui Jim's. They are sweet, extremely comfortable, and I have noticed more MILF's checking me out when I wear them.I just got a pair for the wife from him also, and she is rather pleased, which in turn "pleases" me. It is all good when Mad Cow helps you out.
I have the Titanium sports, the smaller ones, and I will most likely never buy anything else. I am horrible with sunglasses and have had these for 2 years with no issues. Just last week, I had them knocked off my head at a high school bball game. They fell about 15 feet down to the floor and didn't break or even scratch them. If you haven't tried on a pair of these, check them out when you run down to the mall. You can hardly even tell you have them on because they weigh practically nothing. They are also very flexible so it is hard to break them. I did crack the lens by being a stupid ###. I put them in my jacket pocket which then got a Physicians desk reference dropped on it. I won't hesitate to replace them with the same thing if they do eventually fail.

For people that have the MJ's

I am trying to decide between Bronze or Rose lenses. Which is the way to go? I don't like when my sunglasses make everything really dark.

Both are good, but I prefer the rose. It does not look rose from the outside, but IMO is just a very comfortable tint that suits many people.

Go to sunglass hut and try them. I didn't like the rose but my gf loved them. It is really a personal preference.

I agree with cow. The Rose tint really makes everything, I don't know, bright.

I have a pair of Maui Jim's and somehow through someone's fault at my house i'm sure, the frame doesn't fit me now. Can I get these repaired by sending them into to Maui Jim?

I have the Rose and really like them. I tried on all different lenses and chose the Rose because I wear them here in my office (got lots of windows, and the sun is brutal this time of year).

Props to Maui Jim.

I'd had my glasses for 6 weeks when I noticed a big crack on the lens. I figured I was in for a battle with them, like you (sadly) have to do with most companies. I am shocked at how nice, friendly, and easy they are to work with. I paid $8.95 return freight on my glasses, and they hooked me up with new lenses, no charge. They also adjusted/tightened one of the arms for me that had come loose.

Love my glasses, MadCow is a great reference, and Maui Jim is a top notch company. :hot:

Mr. Mad Cow,

I need to look like James Woods in this photo. Well, I'm never going to look like him unless I age 20 years and shrink about a foot, but I at least like his sunglasses.

I'm looking for (what I think) are Mosley Tribes, but I can't be sure (I got the info from here). But I have no idea what the model is. Any thoughts? And do you have a contact that sells them?

Unforunately that's the best pic I could find. I have heard they're a new sub-brand of one of the other major brands but after about a day or two of looking around on the web I was never able to identify what glasses they were with enough confidence to buy them.I saw your sig in another thread and just thought I'd check. Thanks.

Any more good blowouts coming up? I loved the last pair but they are a lil small for my Barry Bonds like huge head. They fit decent but my eyes are not so close together, lol.

I will try to PM you tomorrow, man. If I do not remember, PM me in the afternoon. Took the day off to spend with the wife for her birthday.

I have a pair of RB's I bought last year - lost one of the screws that fell out. I forget the model number but I have it at home. The hole is too small for any if the eyeglass repair kits I've tried - also gone to places like Lenscrafters and they didn't have a screw that fit. The SGH basically told me they can't do anything, and Googling has not yielded anything promising.

So, two things:

1) Any idea where you can get a replacement screw for RB's?

2) If you have no idea, I'll probably PM you the model # later to get a quote, TIA.

You should be able to go back to either SGH or Lenscrafters and call BS. Let them know that you know that Luxottica, the company that owns both SGH AND Lenscrafters, is also the manufacturer of Ray-Ban and they can very easily get the part and they are just trying to be a ####.

MC,

I've never worn sunglasses regularly because the bridge of my nose is extremely wide and rigid...so that when i wear any sort of glasses it results in the frame tilting up at a 10 degree angle or so, resulting in me looking constantly surprised. Im a fairly thin guy, and my head and nose is reasonably sized; its just the wide bridge thats an issue.

Is this something that is common, and is there a way to deal with it? Any retailers that make glasses for the wide-nosed individual?

Hmmm, if you cannot find a good plastic frame with a wider bridge, then you may try the Maui Jim polycarbonate sport line. They have a little wider bridge with some adjustability that might fit the bill.

Mad Cow-

A while back you quoted me some Maui Jim South Shore sun glasses. Been a while, so can you shoot me an up to date quote when you get a chance?

Also, do you still not carry Oakley? I really like the Oakley Whisker glasses too. Figured I would double check.
Sending PM now.

MC-Thanks for the quote.

What are the selling points for the Maui Jim's? Trying to decide between them and the Oakley's.
