Punt and Kickoff Returners 2010 (1 Viewer)

So is the general consesus on the Josh Cribbs info that it is false. And how many people are rolling with Cribbs this week. If he doesn't return chances of me winning this week is not good. What is everyone thinking on this.
The only info provided is what Cribbs said in an interview with Rome. He will not be covering kicks. That is all that was said. You have to make your own judgment from there.btw if Cribbs is the lynchpin for your team to have any hope of winning you better consider making some moves to shore up your depth.
Hey Chaka hes not the lynch pin of my team as I have Brees, peterson, benson Jamal Charles, Desean Jackson, Colsten and a few others. But when he gets you normally 20pts a week to lose that in a league like mine everyone else on your team has to perform perfect and given brees and peterson's lack luster start this week I need cribbs to pull it off. And as someone stated in a league with return yards he normally is the number one reciver are league gives 1pt for every 10yrds so big scores in returns.
I won't comment on what I think about any league scoring system that allows Cribbs to be the #1 WR overall.
:rolleyes:I'm pretty sure you just commented about it.It looks like Harvin did crap in the return game. Was that just because the game wasn't a shootout like we had hoped?

ARIZONA

Whisenhunt not set on a punt returner: The Arizona Cardinals third-round pick Andre Roberts will get a closer look this week after being inactive against the Rams. Punt returner Max Komar fumbled twice in Week 1 and according to Whisenhunt is "on the hot seat." The Cardinals had different guys trying out for punt returner throughout training camp and Komar was given the first chance once the season started. Both are wide receivers further down on the depth chart.

Did anyone that saw the St. Louis game give me some insight as to the return game. I see in the stats that Amendola did most of the KR with the one going to Gilyard. However, Gilyard had the longest return. I picked up Gilyard on the chance that he would take over the return job. I'm now debating on puting a claim in for Marc Mariani (TEN) because he did all the returns. However, if Gilyard was going to get the job in St. Louis I would rather have that position because of the extra opportunities the St. Louis position offers.

Anyone with info would be great.

Pretty sure Gilyard only got that return because Amendola exited temporarily with a leg cramp. But we'll see what they do next week, I guess.

Hmm, any opinions on the top guys to target after week 1? Tate seems interesting, not sure how valuable or consistent he will be as a return guy. He got 27 points this week in my 10 yard return league though. Also interested in Amendola but not sure if he can continue to get all the return duties and be the No.2 WR. I don't know if the increasing WR duties is a good or a bad thing. Spurlock looked like he got all the return duties, 4 PR and 2 KR for 74 total yards so he's also interesting. Hate this return stuff though, I can't really tell what I'm looking for in returners besides KR / PR opportunities and bottom lines. I'm guessing weak defenses is a plus since they would get scored on more often and have more KR and talent but I'm not sure what to look for in regards to talent. Well, at least not as much when compared to QB, WR, and RB.

BALTIMORE

It was a rough debut for Tom Zbikowski as the Ravens' new punt returner. He lost four yards on one third quarter return, catching a Steve Weatherford punt at the Ravens' five-yard line. He ran sideways before getting tackled at the one-yard line. "I drifted a little too much and I took a chance," said Zbikowski, a former third-round draft pick who ran back three punts for touchdowns at Notre Dame. "I got a little not really caught up in the game. I drifted, I didn't realize. I got to pay more attention to where I'm at on the field. I'll correct it. It's nothing that can't be corrected." A repeat performance like that one could possibly get him replaced. "Disappointing," Harbaugh said when asked how Zbikowski fared on that third quarter return. "Tom was disappointed. I thought he did a nice job of catching the ball and securing the ball, but I think he tried too hard to make a play. "Sometimes, guys will do that in their first outing. You've got to respect the guys covering a little bit more and take the ball north and south. Zibby will learn from that. We had a good conversation about it on the train, and it was good-hearted. He'll be fine, but we need better." Harbaugh was noncommittal on whether the Jets will stick with Zbikowski, noting that the team has other choices, including Chris Carr. "We'll see, we never rule anything out," Harbaugh said. "We have Chris Carr as an option and some other guys. Zibby, I think can be good at it."

Tate might prove to be a nice sleeper pick this week in your return yards league. With the entire Jets secondary trying to cover Moss, Welker and the big TE's, Tate could end up with a few bombs tossed his way. He's got the speed to beat the defender in a wide open field.

anyone have any information on Mark Clayton returning kicks in STL? another site is projecting KR yds for him, but i haven't heard anything about it.

Mark Clayton? Not gonna happen. There was some talk in the pre-season about taking Amendola off KRs if he was going to be the Rams clear cut #2 WR. But now that they've got Clayton, Amendola looks to be shifting toward the #3/slot guy, so I'm guessing he sticks on returns. And if they're gonna use anyone else, it won't be Clayton. It will be Gilyard.

PITTSBURGH

Rookie wide receiver Antonio Brown is hoping to be one of the receivers that dresses against the Titans after not playing in the season opener because of a numbers crunch. He and fellow rookie Emmanuel Sanders appear to be in a weekly competition for the final wide receiver spot on game day. Brown is listed No. 1 on the depth chart at kickoff and punt returner, and he could get an opportunity in Nashville if a quadriceps injury that limited Sanders in practice yesterday lingers. "I'm preparing every week for what coach has in store for me and hopefully the opportunity will present itself," Brown said.

LINK:"Cable also said that Johnnie Lee Higgins and Jacoby Ford would take over kickoff and punt return duties, although he did not specify who would play where."

Jacoby Jones received all the PR and KR work for HOU this past weekend. Is that expected to continue? Any discussion about it in the local press?

I'm pretty new to a league that includes return yardage (we get 1pt/10yds), and this includes IDP players. I was looking at PHI CB Ellis Hobbs on the waiver wire, and he looks to be the primary KR guy there. He finished with 4 returns for 93 yds, and 4 solo tackles, good for 13.3 pts in my league. My question is, is his return yardage higher than should be expected due to PHI playing GB, who scores a lot of points, or is Hobbs a returner that should be counted on for solid yardage each week? Also, does a starting CB tend to return most kicks from week to week, or do the coaches tend to go with guys who are deeper on the bench to keep the starters fresh?

We start 1 CB, and I'm thinking about dropping Deangelo Hall for Hobbs, due to his KR yardage points.

first of all, I don't mean to get off on the wrong foot here, but I might jam a ballpoint pen in my eye socket if I read another post about how many points some guy scored in some random league.but to answer your questions, normally a guy facing a higher scoring team will get more kr opps, but 4 isn't all that many considering he gets one at the start of a half, and you still get them even if the other guys just manage a 50 yd fg.

here is an old post from the kr thread in the idp forum --- I can't remember if I made a similar one for this year, but it'll give you an idea of how many kr's different guys get.

looks like 4x16 = 64 is about average.

http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...t=5&start=5

your second question is a little tougher, as it's not something you can generalize.

you don't see all that many starting players return kicks full time, but there are a few who do, and it's pretty situation specific.

as of right now it looks like manning and hobbs, while in the past you might have a josh wilson (due to starters ahead of him being injured), mcgee, mckelvin, etc.

the problem is that it's a fluid situation, and totally dependent on the coach, player health, kr depth, etc.

philly has had other guys on the roster return kicks last year, but this year hobbs gets the start (with the absence of brown) and got the nod for kr.

they still have other guys who can return, and reid has even said recently that hobbs might not be their sole option.

last year manning ended up splitting kr duty with knox, mckelvin and webb got hurt --- all kinds of things can change, so it's hard to lock any one guy in place.

In one of my leagues Amendola scored about 15 points based on his super returns and catches and I think I would recommend him if my life depended on it.

That's exactly what he scored in my league so we must have the same scoring system. Would you say he's top 15, top 20 then under our scoring format?

I'm curious about this as well, although it should probably be noted that he did not get ALL of the returns; Slaton got one KR opportunity. Any Houston homers with info on returns going forward?

Amendola scored 15 in one of my leagues as well. I've got him in the starting lineup right now over Maclin... but will he retain return duties? It looks like Gilyard and Karney, of all people (squib?), got a couple chances last week. Also: Anyone have any info about the return breakdown in Arizona? I'm curious about LaRod Stephens-Howling, as he is another guy who put up a fairly big week in my return league. My RB corps is so bad that I'm debating between starting Leon Washington or Stephens-Howling. With Wells likely out again this week, LSH should still get some work on offense, but I'm unsure about his role on returns.

Last week, he got all of the return action. Is this the plan in Arizona going forward? I'm thinking that Atlanta may score frequently this week...

Good questions. I'd like to know the answers myself. Amendola is on waivers and I'm going back and forth if I should pick him up. I'm high on the priority list and he would be my #3 or #4 WR and would only play during bye or injury weeks which is why I'm hesitant to burn a waiver on him.Howling is a guy I'm intrigued about too because I'm a Fitz owner.

Amendola scored over 10 points in my league, more than double the points of Percy Harvin last week and even more than Eddie Royal. Unfortunately I left him on the bench.

I was just about to pick up Amendola when someone dropped Clayton. I scooped him up quickly!

Of Golden Tate

"We'll figure out how to make him a part of the offense and really in the kicking game as well as much as we can," coach Pete Carroll said. Per Rotoworld

I'm thinking of picking him up anyone else?

Anyone know what the status is with Amendola? He didn't return a single kick or punt last week, therefore his point production dropped a ton from the first week. Gilyard was the returner. Is this a permanent move?

Anyone have info on the St. Louis KR situation. Last week Mardy Gilyard had all the kick returns. Would love to have him if there is any info out there that this will continue. I haven't been able to find any info.

cribbs with only 1 of the 5 kr??yeah, amendola's 15 min might be over.
I can't speak to whats up with Amendola. Josh Cribbs was in on all kick returns but they kicked away from him the whole game. If you look at the Press transcript on the Browns website Mangini addressed them kicking away from him and he stated that it was understandable for them to kick away from him. So don't worry about Cribbs and Mangini also stated that he should have used Cribbs more on Wildcat plays so hopefully we see more of that to.

Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop used the top secret "mortar kickoffs" to keep the ball out of Cribb's hands:LINK

Hey guys found some info on the ST. Louis sitaution, this is a section out of the article thats on the Rams website. In an effort to limit his workload a bit because of the number of times the Rams use multiple receiver sets, coach Steve Spagnuolo opted to use rookie Mardy Gilyard on kick returns. Spagnuolo said Wednesday that would likely continue as Amendola’s main role is as the slot receiver.

Just so everyone knows you can find a lot of info on Special team situations on the teams websites in press releases or articles. As always I will continue to try to find the info you guys need and post it for you.

Thanks for the info. I took a chance and put in a waiver claim on Gilyard and got him. Hopefully he does them the rest of the year and maybe even gets in on 4 WR sets.

"He made a pretty good case for himself." - HC Mike Tomlin regarding WR Antonio Brown on returns

"We can't afford to take him out of there." - HC Pete Carroll regarding WR Golden Tate on punt returns

"Our kickoff returns are more suited for Jordy Nelson’s return style, too, and I think that is part of the adjustments I felt that we made in the offseason. Jordy has been making very good reads with the football, and I think we are doing a much better job fundamentally of blocking in the return game than we did last year." - HC Mike McCarthy

Jacksonville Jaguars placed punt returner Scotty McGee on injured reserve
Once a year I get to use Delanie Walker as TE/Returnerguy. Anyone know if he will be returning kickoffs again this week?
Head Coach Mike Singletary: Post-Practice - September 24, 2010On whether WR Kyle Williams will be the punt returner:

"We're still looking at it. Probability, yes, but we'll see game time."

On WR Ted Ginn status:

"Day-to-day."

On who will be handling kickoff returns:

"One of a few guys. It could be (WR) Josh (Morgan), could be (WR) Kyle Williams. We'll see. It could be (TE) Delanie (Walker) again. We'll see how it works out."

Who would you rather start this week/who has more upside (return yardage league of course)? Mardy Gilyard or Golen Tate?

Gilyard is the KR which gets more than PR. Also the Rams are down another receiver so Gilyard may get wr time also.

Does anyone know if Eddie Royal is going to assume the PR duties after the Cox blunder yesterday? I know Royal came in after that and had a nice return.
