Putting Together A New League (1 Viewer)

I really enjoy the 16 team IDP league I'm in. There are so many defensive players available that it's not much of a problem from that perspective. For us it's harder to have back-up QBs and KIs...

I like 16 team dynasty leagues because you have to go alot deeper with your rosters and put in some effort on player development. You can't just go to the wire every week and get a starter.

 QBs - any starting QB - is goldRBs - also hard to get three productive RBs in a 16-team league. My first year in a league, I took over a last place team, and had no NFL-starting RBs on my roster.WRs - good ones are hard to find, playable WRs are always available - definitely need to draft and hold some of these guys.TEs - after the first 3-4, they all kind of mesh togetherKs - I think we limit teams to 2 Kickers to avoid a situation where a team ends up with no kickers.IDP - we start 3 at each position (DL, LB, DB) DL is hard to have enough good players, but they are all tightly bunched. LB is tough to have depth. DB - waiver wire still provides decent starters.I like the league - you have to always think ahead to get decent players before they peak. By the time they are listed on the waiver-wire pick-ups here, they are usually gone in a big league.

In a 16 team league with IDP, people still value offense way more than defense even if the scoring system weights them evenly. I've used that to get 3 top 20 LB's which has been a huge advantage. DB's are a dime a dozen, and I'm terrible at evaluating DL talent so I usually only carry a few scab DL players. The points I gain at LB more than make up for what I lose at DL. Our scoring system treats WRs favorably which is good in such a big league because there are only so many NFL RBs worth having. You can carry only 1 good RB and their backup, while carrying plenty of good WRs.

Yeah, our 16 team league allows us to start another WR or TE in place of a RB...

This is true in my 16 team league as well. We only start 2 LBs and can only carry 4 on a roster so I find there are always a few decent LBs floating around the waiver wire. Actually, having positional limits generally can help keep more decent players available as FAs. We also start three DBs and you don't have to start a corner, but at the same time you can only roster 3 safties. It can be frustrating when you need a replacement as there are quite a few productive safties on the wire and you can often only pick up a CB. Guys like Dahl who were listed as CBs but played as safeties are like gold.

IDP starters....one suggestion is to have an IDP Flex, at any position (DL, LB or DB) which would allow you to start 11 IDP

I run 2 16 IDP teamers; heres one of them

I'm Lord Humugous

Roster size is 46 / 22 starters

11 Offense: (1 QB, 3 WR, 1 RB, 1 TE, 1 PK, 3 Flex (2 W/R, 1 W/T), & 1 KR*

11 IDPS: (3 DE, 3 LB, 2 CB, 2 S, 1 DL/LB) so you can go 4 - 3 - 4 or 3 - 4 - 4

One think you can see is that the really knowable owners really dominant the larger leagues; the same guys have been on top for the past 3 years and the same guys have been on the bottom. I had some great trades over the off-season and got into the top 5 or 4 of the rankings.

But every offensive Position is very hard to fill, its also hard to find LBs and DL on the WW especially at the end of the yr. CBs and Ss are never hard to find unless its game day
