QB Andy Dalton, CAR (2 Viewers)

At Green Bay is next on the slate for Cincy. If they don't correct the O-line problems, Mike Daniels and company are going to be spending a lot of time in Dalton's face.

So no one sees any light at the end of the tunnel here?

Baltimore and Houston are two rough defenses. Plus the Houston game was on a short week. Now they have 10 days to prep for a much softer defense in Green Bay, followed by Cleveland next week.

It is entirely possible I'm being biased here...I'm pretty heavily invested in the Cincy offense (AJG, Mixon, Dalton as my QB2 in a 2 QB...not intentional, just worked out that way). The o-line is certainly a problem, but Dalton isn't this bad. Hell, he was an MVP candidate two years ago and a perfectly average QB for his career. No one sees a rebound coming?

They will only rebound if the offensive line plays better.  They should have spent their money on Zeitler or Whitworth instead of Adam Jones.

Bengals VP Troy Blackburn says the team doesn’t think they need to re-do Andy Dalton's deal at this time.

"We don’t think this is the time right now," Blackburn continued. "What we are going to focus on right now is building the best team for 2018 we possibly can." Dalton signed a seven-year, $97.09 million contract in 2014, so there's still time for the Bengals front office to come around on another extension. He's due $13.9 million in 2018, a relatively cheap number since quarterback extensions have ballooned since he initially signed. Dalton will be 31 in October.

Dalton looked very good yesterday.  His line of 11 for 16, 180, 2 TDs is actually misleading in that 2-3 of the incompletions were flat out drops.

The stars are all aligning for a possible return to his 2015 performance.  The Bengals O-line pass blocked very well (and were poor at run blocking); Ross is healthy; Eifert is Healthy; AJ Green is still AJ Green.  The new O-scheme is emphasizing the big pass play.

How many QBs have as many quality targets as Dalton?  The Bengals have invested some serious draft capital in Dalton's pass targets:

AJ Green (1st round pick)

Tyler Eifert (1st)

John Ross (1st)

Tyler Boyd (2d)

Gio Bernard (2d)

Not to mention the pretty strong bench of Tyler Kroft, Josh Malone, Alex Erickson and sleepers Shreck & Tate.

Dalton has never finished worse than QB18 in fantasy and yet, despite all the positive vibes out of Cincy, I still see folks ranking him in the 20s (as low as 26).  This guys is probably the safest QB2 out there and is a very legitimate threat to finish in the top 8 at the position.

I would not sleep on this guy.

Full disclosure - I am a tried and true Bengals fan and I drink the Kool-Aid.

they certainly have some talent which Dalton definitely needs to be successful....he's proven he can't do it on his own but if he's surrounded by talent and put in a position to succeed he won't mess it up that badly.

Pulled the trigger on him as my QB2 in my 12 team, super-flex, ppr redraft yesterday.  Took him at 04.12 (remember it's a super-flex) as the 16th QB off the board. I reached for him a little because I had drafted A.J. Green as my WR1, might have made a different choice at QB if I had not done that (maybe Carr or Manning) but I'm okay with him as my QB2.

Only drafted one QB, league took 22. Placed Wentz in an IR slot & picked Andy up as my WK1 starter.

Did not give myself a high five.

:hifive:

Andy will have a nice bounce back season. He probably still won't be a too 10 QB, but he'll be much better this year.

It really comes down to Ross. If Ross is on the field and playing anywhere close to his potential, AJ green and the backs will be virtually impossible to stop.

He is locked and loaded for me this season in my big $ redraft.  Really feeling a 2015 ish season coming.

Now you’re really making me want to backup Big Ben with Dalton. I rarely carry a backup QB as most of my leagues are short benches.

This is the name of the Andy Dalton thread? Yikes...

Bengals placed QB Andy Dalton on injured reserve with torn ligaments in his thumb, ending his season.

The Bengals' Monday waiver claim of Tom Savage looked like a bad sign for Dalton's chances of playing in Week 13. But he's not going to play for the rest of the season now. Jeff Driskel will close out the season as Cincinnati's starting quarterback. Dalton, who turned 31 last month, finished the 2018 campaign with a 21:11 TD-to-INT ratio and averaged 7.0 yards per attempt, once again reasserting himself as a mid-range to below-average NFL starter. The Bengals can save $16.2 million in salary cap space by releasing Dalton in the offseason with zero dead money. That, of course, would require them to start over at the quarterback position, an approach Marvin Lewis and owner Mike Brown have been loath in recent years to take.

ESPN Bengals reporter Katherine Terrell doesn't see Andy Dalton as an extension candidate this offseason.

Terrell believes the team would prefer to "wait and see" how Dalton adjusts to Zac Taylor's new offense before making a long-term commitment. Dalton got off to a hot start in 2018 but faded as injuries decimated his receiving corps. Even at his best, the TCU alum has never been much more than a league-average starter. Our own Josh Norris has the Bengals using a second-round pick on Duke QB Daniel Jones in his latest mock.

Yes! Absolutely! Because the Bengals should definitely cast Andy Dalton aside in favor of a taller, less red-headed Andy Dalton.

Don't forget less talented.

It would make zero sense for the Bengals to try to replace Dalton right now. QB is arguably one of the strengths of the team, I mean its likely a below .500 team, but Dalton is hardly the problem.

Rams T Andrew Whitworth believes Andy Dalton is "a guy that can do really well" in Zac Taylor's offense.

Whitworth protected for Dalton for many years and he was just with Taylor, so his opinion holds some weight. Whitworth specifically mentions "play-action, getting the ball out and getting the ball down the field" as things Dalton and Taylor will do successfully. Dalton has been cleared for offseason workouts after recovering from a thumb injury, but he'll also need to dodge the rookie quarterback bullet in two weeks to fully lock himself up as the Bengals full-year starter in 2019.

if the o-line can hold, i think this could be a nice bounce-back year for Dalton. in my dynasty league last year, he finished QB24 in ppg for the season. however, with Green healthy and Boyd emerging in the first 9 weeks of the season, he was #15. a new system would give me pause with a younger QB but they have solid pieces around him with Mixon, Boyd, Green, and even Ross. if they can stay relatively healthy then there is a good chance Dalton can move back into the top half (or even third) of the QB performance rankings.

Andy Dalton completed 7-of-10 passes for 104 yards and one touchdown in the Bengals' third preseason game against the Giants Thursday.

The Bengals' starters played three series, with the first two stalling miserably before getting things going on the third and marching down the field into the end zone. The second series ended abruptly on a bad 3rd-and-4 drop by Tyler Boyd. But Boyd later had a grab that set up C.J. Uzomah's eventual 26-yard score off play-action. Play-action figures to be a staple for new coach Zac Taylor. Dalton finishes the preseason 19-of-28 for 220 yards and a 1:1 TD:INT mark. Dalton is nothing more than a fantasy QB2 but could have some big weeks. The Week 1 date in Seattle could be interesting. The Seahawks' defense is much worse on paper in 2019.

so little activity on this thread, I dropped Darnold for him in my short bench 2qb league, could be an interesting year ahead for him in this new O...

Andy Dalton completed 26-of-42 passes for 311 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in Week 2 against the 49ers.

Dalton and the entire offense couldn't get anything going in this one. A 66-yard touchdown to John Ross on the final drive salvaged his game, but Dalton struggled behind a shaky line with LT Cordy Glenn out. Dalton has 729 yards and four touchdowns through the first two weeks. He'll remain a high-floor QB2 for Week 3 against Buffalo.

Andy Dalton completed 20-of-36 passes for 249 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in Week 3 against Buffalo.

Dalton also scored on a one-yard QB sneak. The Bengals were shut out in the first half, but Dalton had them in position to win late and nearly led a fourth-quarter comeback. This was a tough matchup going in, but Dalton continued to show his high floor — he has at least two touchdowns in every game this season. With A.J. Green's return looming over the next few weeks, Dalton could see a nice boost to his ROS outlook.
