Because if there's one thing Marvin has learned, it's that a long history of being just better than mediocre, often making highly questionable decisions, and coming up small on the biggest stages is a guaranteed three-step plan to job security.

Should get fired for letting the only 2 good linemen walk in FA. Probably only Bellichek could compete with this line.Marvin Lewis get fired yet?
doubt it. The top couple of QBs are very unlikely to fall. For good or ill, they are in the most affordable part of Andy's contract. They might not even take a late round QB depending on how they feel about Driskell's health.
Bengals VP Troy Blackburn says the team doesn’t think they need to re-do Andy Dalton's deal at this time.
"We don’t think this is the time right now," Blackburn continued. "What we are going to focus on right now is building the best team for 2018 we possibly can." Dalton signed a seven-year, $97.09 million contract in 2014, so there's still time for the Bengals front office to come around on another extension. He's due $13.9 million in 2018, a relatively cheap number since quarterback extensions have ballooned since he initially signed. Dalton will be 31 in October.

Cue the classic phrase about the definition of insanity.Dalton signed a seven-year, $97.09 million contract in 2014, so there's still time for the Bengals front office to come around on another extension.
Everything I have heard is that he is "fine" and that he should start week 1.Do we have an update on Cordy Glenn?
That would definitely be top 103,800 yards passing, 28 TDs, 150 yards rushing, 3 TDs
It is only about 10% above his career averages. But he has a wide range in every metric. That would definitely be top 10
Trying to figure out who to drop from a short bench to do the same.In this week over Ben. Giddy up.
Now you’re really making me want to backup Big Ben with Dalton. I rarely carry a backup QB as most of my leagues are short benches. He is locked and loaded for me this season in my big $ redraft. Really feeling a 2015 ish season coming.
Likewise, but I might just drop Ben as I don’t like to hold two QBsVikingFrog said:Trying to figure out who to drop from a short bench to do the same.
Bengals placed QB Andy Dalton on injured reserve with torn ligaments in his thumb, ending his season.
The Bengals' Monday waiver claim of Tom Savage looked like a bad sign for Dalton's chances of playing in Week 13. But he's not going to play for the rest of the season now. Jeff Driskel will close out the season as Cincinnati's starting quarterback. Dalton, who turned 31 last month, finished the 2018 campaign with a 21:11 TD-to-INT ratio and averaged 7.0 yards per attempt, once again reasserting himself as a mid-range to below-average NFL starter. The Bengals can save $16.2 million in salary cap space by releasing Dalton in the offseason with zero dead money. That, of course, would require them to start over at the quarterback position, an approach Marvin Lewis and owner Mike Brown have been loath in recent years to take.
Oof.Dropped Luck for Dalton hoping for a shoot out. Has some very nice matchups in the next handful of weeks, so I may roll with him for a spell.

ESPN Bengals reporter Katherine Terrell doesn't see Andy Dalton as an extension candidate this offseason.
Terrell believes the team would prefer to "wait and see" how Dalton adjusts to Zac Taylor's new offense before making a long-term commitment. Dalton got off to a hot start in 2018 but faded as injuries decimated his receiving corps. Even at his best, the TCU alum has never been much more than a league-average starter. Our own Josh Norris has the Bengals using a second-round pick on Duke QB Daniel Jones in his latest mock.

Yes! Absolutely! Because the Bengals should definitely cast Andy Dalton aside in favor of a taller, less red-headed Andy Dalton. Our own Josh Norris has the Bengals using a second-round pick on Duke QB Daniel Jones in his latest mock.
Don't forget less talented.Yes! Absolutely! Because the Bengals should definitely cast Andy Dalton aside in favor of a taller, less red-headed Andy Dalton.
Rams T Andrew Whitworth believes Andy Dalton is "a guy that can do really well" in Zac Taylor's offense.
Whitworth protected for Dalton for many years and he was just with Taylor, so his opinion holds some weight. Whitworth specifically mentions "play-action, getting the ball out and getting the ball down the field" as things Dalton and Taylor will do successfully. Dalton has been cleared for offseason workouts after recovering from a thumb injury, but he'll also need to dodge the rookie quarterback bullet in two weeks to fully lock himself up as the Bengals full-year starter in 2019.

Andy Dalton completed 7-of-10 passes for 104 yards and one touchdown in the Bengals' third preseason game against the Giants Thursday.
The Bengals' starters played three series, with the first two stalling miserably before getting things going on the third and marching down the field into the end zone. The second series ended abruptly on a bad 3rd-and-4 drop by Tyler Boyd. But Boyd later had a grab that set up C.J. Uzomah's eventual 26-yard score off play-action. Play-action figures to be a staple for new coach Zac Taylor. Dalton finishes the preseason 19-of-28 for 220 yards and a 1:1 TD:INT mark. Dalton is nothing more than a fantasy QB2 but could have some big weeks. The Week 1 date in Seattle could be interesting. The Seahawks' defense is much worse on paper in 2019.

Andy Dalton completed 26-of-42 passes for 311 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in Week 2 against the 49ers.
Dalton and the entire offense couldn't get anything going in this one. A 66-yard touchdown to John Ross on the final drive salvaged his game, but Dalton struggled behind a shaky line with LT Cordy Glenn out. Dalton has 729 yards and four touchdowns through the first two weeks. He'll remain a high-floor QB2 for Week 3 against Buffalo.

Andy Dalton completed 20-of-36 passes for 249 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in Week 3 against Buffalo.
Dalton also scored on a one-yard QB sneak. The Bengals were shut out in the first half, but Dalton had them in position to win late and nearly led a fourth-quarter comeback. This was a tough matchup going in, but Dalton continued to show his high floor — he has at least two touchdowns in every game this season. With A.J. Green's return looming over the next few weeks, Dalton could see a nice boost to his ROS outlook.
