QB Baker Mayfield, TB (1 Viewer)

There's a non-zero chance Baker is eventually benched for Trask.
I believe the Bucs want to see what they have in their 2nd round QB who sat behind Brady. If I were a betting man, I would bet that Trask sees at least five starts this year.
I think the Bucs said what they think about Trask when they deactivated him for 14 games and assigned Blaine Gabbert as Brady's backup.

Probably. But while he lost his gig to Gabbart, he still might be better than Mayfield.

In his 12 year career Gabbert has 51 TD, 47 INT, 33 fumbles, a 56 comp %, 6.1 YPA, 1 sack for every 11 pass attempts, and is 13-35 as a starter.

And?

Former NFL GM Rick Spielman said Baker Mayfield hopes to sign a long-term deal with the Bucs.
“He’s looking for a place he can finish out his career and play to the level of expectations that were placed on him,” Spielman told CBS Sports. “He’s very confident, but he also understands he’s really out to prove he’s the Mayfield that was a first overall pick.” Tampa split first-team reps between Mayfield and third-year QB Kyle Trask at OTAs. Mayfield will compete with Trask this preseason in a competition the Bucs expect Mayfield to win. The Bucs want to see what they have in Mayfield before resetting at the quarterback position next offseason. Bucs OC Dave Canales resurrected QB Geno Smith in Seattle and hopes to do the same with Mayfield, who takes over last year’s No. 2 ranked pass offense.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes Baker Mayfield “has held much of the momentum” for the Buccaneers starting quarterback job.
As Fowler notes in his article, Mayfield “has command of the offense and is considered better-suited to run a Dave Canales offense.” He also adds that Kyle Trask has “come on strong in recent days,” but it sounds like Mayfield will get first crack at the starting job when all is said and done. The former No. 1 overall pick has far more game experience than Trask does at this point in his career and looked a little better in his five games with the Rams than he did in his seven games with the Panthers. From a fantasy perspective, Mayfield is hard to trust as anything more than a desperation flier in 2QB and Superflex leagues. He’s pretty much off the radar in 1QB leagues.

Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask are listed as co-starters on the Bucs official depth chart.
John Wolford, meanwhile, is listed as the team’s No. 3 quarterback. The odd depth chart listing reflects how close the starting QB competition has been in Tampa Bay training camp, where both signal callers have struggled mightily. While Mayfield reportedly had “momentum” in the Week 1 competition, Trask has come on in recent days. Though Mayfield’s starting experience likely gives him an edge, continued poor play in camp and in preseason games could force the Bucs to give Trask a shot as the Week 1 starter. Either way, things are bleak for the Bucs’ pass catchers.

I have not read where they’re struggling mightily and read camp reports daily. Manufactured spin.

Mayfield is set to start preseason game 1 against Pittsburgh. Trask game 2 against the Jets.

I've seen a lot of "info" leaning both directions. Something isn't right. Somebody has an axe to grind!

Bucs QB Baker Mayfield completed 8-of-9 passes for 63 yards and a touchdown in his preseason debut vs the Steelers.
Mayfield got the start and played the first half before giving way to Kyle Trask. This was as good a night as possible for Mayfield, who thew a back corner touchdown to sixth-round WR Trey Palmer and had full command of the offense while playing with mostly backups. Trask struggled in relief of Mayfield, throwing an interception and taking three sacks. Mayfield has the edge for the Bucs’ QB job going into the second preseason game.

Just got back from the game and it sure seems like it's Baker's job to lose at this point. Trask didn't just play poorly - he frequently looked panicky. Without looking at the numbers, even Wolford looked better than Trask. The bigger concern is all the mistakes were making at every position. Also there were a LOT of Brady jerseys being worn - and sold in the shops still. Also Steelers fans really are cool.

Bought my kid a pair of Jordan’s the other day for back to school.

Steelers’ fans are the freaking worst.

Baker Mayfield completed 21-of-34 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns in the Buccaneers’ 20-17, Week 1 win over the Vikings.

Getting off to a slow start, Mayfield picked up the pace late to clinch a victory for Tampa Bay. In the first quarter, Mayfield airmailed some throws and was under constant pressure behind a questionable offensive line. He got into a rhythm at the end of the first half, connecting with Mike Evans for a touchdown. In the second half, Mayfield connected with rookie Trey Palmer in the red zone for his second touchdown. Mayfield let loose on a couple of angry runs to give Tampa Bay the go-ahead field goal and later extend the last drive of the game. He threw a crucial first down pass to Chris Godwin to clinch the game before kneeling a few times to end with a Week 1 victory and no turnovers. Mayfield looked more comfortable as the game went on and will face the Bears at home next week where he will be a borderline-QB2 for fantasy purposes.

Dude has moxie and guts. I can see why so many Cleveland fans loved him. Maddening at times, but he freaking cares.

Also, would have had a much better statistical day, but Evans had a pair of bad drops.
He got that dawg in him.

Not sure he’s got that playoff caliber qb in him but he’s a dawg for sure.

Hate on him all you want, but he’s an amazing leader and still can play.

It’s too bad he’s stuck now on this horrible Bucs team. I think Baker could lead the Jets to the SB if he wasn’t stuck in Tampa…

That's awesome. He was definitely doing a ton of alerts and they played much better as an offense in the second half.

Lol @ "this horrible Bucs team" though

I do apologize as this team isn’t bad or hasn’t been proven to be. Of course Baker gets to take the fall if they falter but that’s the price of admission for him…

As a fan of his it is nice to see a team believe in him for once!

It’s the price of admission for a QB in general and especially for a QB that’s the #1 overall pick. That comes with expectations.

It looks like the defense should be pretty good. He’s got a pair of great receivers. Maybe the run game can get going.

He had those things in Cleveland too.

But, sometimes you just need a fresh start. I hope for him and Bucs’ fans it’s in Tampa.

I don’t think Baker has changed. Lots of other things have though. The systems, OCs, HCs, talent around him. Seems like he finally found a place that believes in him and not holding him back…

I like him as well. Seems to be a good teamate and a good citizen from what we have seen. Just not sold on QB even as a journeyman who can manage a team. Seems like I'm waiting for the shoe to drop every game. His seasons with the browns have not helped at all tho'.

First time i have watched him end to end this year and he looks like baker mayfield to me. Jittery in the pocket, missed a ton of throws, some bad decisions etc...

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports Baker Mayfield (knee) will play in Week 8 against the Bills.
Mayfield is listed as questionable heading into Thursday night’s contest, but he was able to log a full practice on Wednesday, indicating he will indeed play. Mayfield and the Bucs get a battered Bills defense that has struggled in recent weeks, but the up-and-down journeyman is still a low-end QB2 in prime time.
