No that was another report from Morten Anderson. This is a new article from a different reporter. 

 
Not so sure of Mayfield being worthy of a fantasy pick in anything but Superflex and 2-QB leagues, or 14+ team leagues.

That said, I certainly feel better about CMC and DJ Moore now that he's there. A lot less chance the offense goes quarters at a time, without a 1st down, than with Darnold. 

Personally, I'll probably be among the highest on CMC and Moore. I've got CMC as RB2(and closer to Taylor than Ekeler) and Moore as a borderline WR1. I probably would have had CMC close to that range with Darnold, but I would have had Moore, in the WR15-20 range. 

 
I don't know if the question has been asked of Mayfield post-trade (or even prior)...but would he have continued to play injured if he knew then what he knows now with regard to him being in CLE plans?

While its not a direct answer to that question, Mayfield has spoken before about Brett Favre basically being his idol as a kid. With that in mind, I would assume given a do over, he still would have played, and just hoped it went better. 

On the flip side, for all we know, this is the best thing that could have happened to Mayfield. Carolina could certainly be a better team going forward than Cleveland (Bengals and Ravens aren't going anywhere) and maybe Mayfield will excel without #1 pick expectations and playing in crummy weather. 

 

Baker Mayfield completed 16-of-27 passes for 235 yards, one touchdown, an interception and added a rushing touchdown in the Panthers' 26-24 loss against the Browns.​


Mayfield and the Panthers' offense got off to a horrid start. He started off 5-of-15 passing and coupled that with a bad interception and a lost fumble. A 50-yard completion to Ian Thomas right before the half got the Panthers back in the game. On the other side, Jacoby Brissett wasn't much better as the Browns' leaned heavily on the run game. a 75-yard touchdown pass to Robbie Anderson in the fourth quarter boosted what was otherwise a very "Baker Mayfield" type of stat line. Mayfield and the Panthers get a easier matchup next week against the Giants.

I dunno. I don’t put the loss on him. He played a horrid first half but brought his team back and put them up at the end. He’s not playing defense. It’s not like Brissett outplayed him. Brissett had 2 stud running backs on his team that the Panther defense could not stop. Mccaffrey wasn’t doing too much. Again—I’m not saying that Baker is a stud—but putting the loss squarely on his shoulders is not really fair. Burrow did a lot more to cause his team to lose than Baker did today—yet people just trash the guy. I had him going as my qb2 today in a 2qb league—and I’m not feeling too bad about it.

He literally could not have been gifted a better situation in Cleveland. 2 stud RB's, a great offensive line, an elite WR at the time in Beckham, one of the best slots in the game in Landry, a pro bowl TE at the time in Hooper. Carolina will be looking for yet another starting QB next offseason. Until then, Baker will do what Baker does best, torpedo the values of the receivers around him :thumbup:

It's his final year starting in the NFL. And if he's more trouble than he's worth, probably won't be a backup in the league long either.
 

ESPN’s Dan Graziano “wouldn't be surprised” if Baker Mayfield returns as the Panthers’ starter in 2023.​

Mayfield set career lows before shoulder surgery ended his season in Week 14 last year. Re-signing with the Panthers, who traded for Mayfield in July, is in play if Mayfield rebounds closer to what he was in 2020. Mayfield looked healthy in his Panthers’ debut, throwing for 235 yards with two touchdowns. With third-rounder Matt Corral (Lisfranc, IR) returning and only four picks in the 2023 draft, the Panthers may look to re-sign Mayfield rather than replace him this offseason.

Baker Mayfield completed 14-of-29 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers' 19-16, Week 2 loss against the Giants. He also rushed six times for an additional 35 yards.​


Mayfield was outplayed by Daniel Jones and that's not a compliment to Jones at all. Mayfield and the Panthers' offense haven't seem to have figured it out yet. It doesn't get easier as they face the Saints in Week 3 and you're not starting Mayfield in your lineups in any circumstances until the offense improves.

Baker Mayfield completed 12-of-25 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers' 22-14, Week 3 win over the Saints.​


This was the Panthers' first win at home in over a year, though Mayfield can't take much credit for the accomplishment. He was off the mark throughout the day and most of his middling stat line came on a long Laviska Shenault touchdown. Shenault caught the pass and did most of the damage after the catch by evading weak tackle attempts. It was an otherwise uninspiring day from Mayfield. He can be left on the waiver wire for Carolina's Week 4 game against the Cardinals.

Baker is Mark Sanchez…game manager….bad qb when he doesn’t have a run game and good defense. If you make him one dimensional, game over.

Amazing but true. Brissett is a gamer not a hall of famer, but exactly what teams need in a backup or stop gap QB. Mayfield is a borderline bum.
 
The Panthers have been running a ridiculously low number of plays per game (51 today, less than 60 each week).

While I’m sure there’s a lot of blame to go around, a lot of it is on Baker. If I’m Rhule and fighting for my job, I’d go back to Darnold as soon as he’s ready.

Baker Mayfield is broken. The once-promising QB so many saw during his rookie and '20 campaigns appears to be gone forever. At this point, it's hard to envision him ever getting back to being a serviceable player, let alone leading another team after this season.
 
Baker's unquestionably part of the problem but so is Rhule.

This is actually Rhule's best "ranking" in points scored, they're 18th through 4 weeks (last two years he was 29th and 24th). So this is an improvement for Rhule's offense.

Baker is floating everything because he’s trying to throw it over the line because they’re not even rushing him anymore because they know the ball is coming out quickly and they can bat it down and it’s just all bad.
 

Baker Mayfield's X-rays on his injured foot came back negative on Monday.​

Mayfield will be undergoing an MRI on his foot as well, which should shed light on his recovery timeline. With Sam Darnold (ankle) unavailable, the Panthers could be in an even more difficult spot at quarterback when they face the Rams in Week 6.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Baker Mayfield will miss some time with a high-ankle sprain.​

Further tests and opinions will determine how long Mayfield is expected to be sidelined, but this sets P.J. Walker up for a Week 6 start against the Rams. Mayfield was seen in a walking boot after Sunday's loss to the 49ers, but X-rays came back negative on his foot earlier Monday morning. Walker offers some rushing upside at the quarterback position but is taking the reins of arguably the worst offense in the league. He can be kept on the waiver wire in all leagues and formats.

ESPN's David Newton said Baker Mayfield (ankle) was not wearing a walking boot in the Panthers' locker room on Monday.​

Mayfield sat out Sunday's game against the Rams after suffering a high-ankle sprain in Week 5. Expected to miss a few weeks, Mayfield suiting up in Week 7 against the Buccaneers seems unlikely, but the fact that he's already shed the boot is a good sign. We'll likely know more about Mayfield's status on Wednesday when the Panthers release their first injury report. If Mayfield is unable to play, Phillip Walker would be in line for his second-straight start.
