QB Brett Rypien- MIN (1 Viewer)

Brutally bad. At least the thread never reached Christine Michael status. Waldman is a better talent evaluator than most, but he completely whiffed on this one. Y'all need to let it go.
No one said he was a world beater. But he deserved better than all his WR's dropping passes that were right in their hands. He'll improve and be ready for his next chance.
I'm really not sure why you defend this guy so much unless it's schtick, or he's a relative, but either way Rypien's had a shot to produce. He got a look in Denver, and just had another good opportunity to put quality football on tape for LA. He's failed in that regard and has a career QB rating sub-60. QBR is in the 20's. He's obviously got NFL talent, but something's missing. Sometimes the NFL scouts are right. This appears to be one of those cases. Maybe a good practice team guy?
I've mentioned many times in here that he's a relative of mine.

He does have NFL talent. Pretty decent arm, but no mobility and compared to most NFL qb's, extremely low on the 'physically gifted' scale. He's been praised by many former teammates/coaches for his football IQ, ability to read defenses, X's and O's, etc. Had a great career at Boise and I see no reason why he can't be a solid backup in the league as he's a great addition to the QB room and helping the starter prepare.
Never read that, so thank you. Makes sense why you'd cheer for the guy and I applaud you for doing so. I wish everyone the best in the NFL, including Rypien, and I honestly liked Rypien's potential in Denver but for now it seems like the sun is setting on his hopes at being a relevant starter in the NFL. The problem I have with him is when he comes into games either as a backup or a starter, I don't see any fire. I want a spark from my backup, Rypien hasn't really been able to show that in his 3+ years. He's got something to like about him or he wouldn't have caught on with 2 different teams as the #2 already.
Yeah, I mean the guy made it to the NFL so that is an accomplishment in and of itself. Good luck to him going forward. Maybe a QB coaching job in his future?

I do think coaching could be in his future but I'm not giving up on him landing somewhere yet. Hopes of him being a long term starter in the league are pretty much done tho.

I guess I can go back to hating the Rams now lol.

honestly, cutting boyle is what makes the jets, amongst other things, a terrible organization. you are 4-8 and dead as a door nail. trot out boyle to lose the last 5. no reason to jeopardize losing out to play a guy that might pull a game out somewhere…..god forbid we beat washington or NE. rypien is garbage, but my deceased dog who had no thumbs is better than boyle.

trot out boyle to lose the last 5

This is exactly what they should do, but they've even bungled the Zach Wilson situation to the point where he doesn't want to start and they're protecting him.

Feel bad for Rypien behind that line.
here’s the weird thing….if they ran a wildcat for 1/2 the game, would it have been better than this recent mess? basically, make breece the facilitator.

Absolute massive game by Brett today. Showed why he needs to be the starter for this Bears team for at least a year as Caleb learns from him.

Seems like a huge reach after only one preseason game against mostly back ups.

Plus all the reports I have seen out of camp about Caleb have been good.
He had backup offensive players on his team today too. Caleb has talent, but he's not in Brett's league.

C'mon, man. Half of these guys on BOTH teams will not be on a roster come week 1. Slow your roll there, dude.

Just FYI, Troy and Cluck in the booth last night made a big point that Eberflus announced Caleb as the starter 15 days after they drafted him, he didn't even play last night

Rypien will never see the light of day in Chicago behind the No 1 draft pick.
Was Las Vegas full for some reason? Why doesn't this guy try to sign somewhere he could actually play?

There's a lot of preseason darlings like Skylar Thompson from Miami, he always makes you wonder why he's not starting over Tua.

:scared:

Things can change fast in this league. He threw 3 tds in the rain, playing only a half of football. If they didn't stop the game for lightning, he likely would have hit 6 or 7.

All against dudes who won't be starting or playing at all. Scoop em up!

Rookie QBs that are drafted in the top 15 picks rarely sit and wait to start nowadays. Typically there is a legit starter already in place if that happens. Not sure why Caleb would sit a year behind someone who has only started a handful of games out of necessity.

Easily 6 or 7!

This is the board’s annual reminder that Deamon is related to Rypien. This thread is for cheerleading, not fantasy football analysis.

I definitely missed that part.

Rypien throws 3 TDs, Bears win storm-shortened Hall of Fame Game

Excerpts:

Brett Rypien stole the show before lightning and heavy rain ended the game early.

Rypien finished 11-of-15 for 166 yards with TD passes of 20 and 9 yards to Johnson and 22 yards to Tommy Sweeney. Rypien, who was 2-2 as a starter in four seasons with the Broncos and Rams, entered camp as the third-string QB.

"This one meant a lot to me," Rypien said. "I had a bad taste in my mouth all offseason after my last start in Green Bay [on Nov. 5]. I didn't know how this season would go, didn't know if I'd get a chance to compete for anything."

Rypien led the Bears on a 72-yard drive in just 58 seconds in the final minutes of the first half. His TD pass to Sweeney cut it to 17-14. He put the Bears ahead with the 9-yard strike to Johnson in the third.

"As a backup, you have to be ready at any moment," Rypien said. "You never know when that opportunity is going to come. You have to go in and execute when you haven't had that many reps."

He had backup offensive players on his team today too. Caleb has talent, but he's not in Brett's league.

Find us some Rypien for MVP odds. This could be the new Kurt Warner.

Only in for one series. Did what he needed to.

Not worth the injury risk, make sure he's healthy for the regular season.

Released today :(

Huge mistake. Hopefully can find a starting gig elsewhere.
He was probably a threat to Caleb Williams confidence, can't have that
Just wasn't the right fit

Would he be better than what Miami currently has behind Tua?
Skylar Thompason has started the same number of Playoff games as Tua

Wouldn't mind that. He's bounced around so much, this will be team 6 in 5 years. I think you're right about him threatening Caleb's confidence.

Would lose my mind if Philly signed him, get rid of Kenny already.

Look out Sam.

I would bet good money that Brett Rypien starts at some point this year. He's one of those Ryan Fitzpatrick, Joshua Dobbs types that can sustain success for small stretches before imploding and letting everyone around them down. He makes you think he's more than a Toyota (maybe a Lexus) but then you realize it's just a Toyota with all the upgrades.

Darnold signs in Seattle, and Mullens signs in Jacksonville.

Brett should easily beat out Danny Dimes as next year's Vikings starting QB until JJ is mature enough and healthy enough to take over in 2026.
