Im very high on Purdy down the stretch with that schedule - looked awful last pm but may still be a bit hobbled and rusty. Need to rebound next game badly - dont want the chatter to grow on the bye weekI remember people used to call him a checkdown artist. Guy loves to sling it downfield. Hes way better than Jimmy G ever was. Yeah the INTs suck but I am willing to chalk them up as rust. Looking at the QB play in this league, I think hes a top 10 guy.
I actually think that schedule is bad.Im very high on Purdy down the stretch with that schedule -
I, too, sometimes wildly overreact to a very small sample size, entirely disregarding the larger body of evidence.Id be putting Mac back in. Brock ain;t it, as I've always maintained.
Once CMC is gone, whoever is the QB will be thoroughly exposed.
His physical ability is his best attribute. he’s a good scrambler and can improvise in the pocket to buy time for receivers. The same reasons this guy went undrafted are the same reasons he is having INT problems now.
Good player, physically limited IMO.
Great brain for the most part
Mac Jones and Purdy splits are really interesting
Is it weird that the biggest 49ers hater on this forum is allegedly a 49ers fan?The answer is:Kurt Warner
I have talked often about my INTs and I feel like #BrockPurdy plays a lot like me… He is mostly really good & makes a lot of big time throws, but it seems like every miss (which usually is a couple a game - which is actually very good) is an INT & the D rarely seems to drop any of his bad balls (unlike a lot of other guys)!
Working Theory: I def think there is something to guys who throw with more touch/less velocity have higher completion rates but also higher INT rates bc their passes are easier to catch for their guys and others!!
Thoughts?
All Purdy and Jones have is Jauam Jennings, who lacks the speed of any GSOT WR. And also does not have the arm strength.
Matt Stafford has thrown more career yards - almost twice as many as Warner has - and now is at 30 TDs to 2 INts this season. Drake Maye this season is at 21 TDs to 6 INTs. Daniel Jones is at 17-7.
Purdy throwing 7 INTs in four games is like Jamies Winston chucking the rock through four games. Even worse when his INT ratio is carrying over from his last 3-4 starts of last season. It's backup level QB playing. where Winston can throw a 3 TD game in his four starts without an INT against AZ, or throw 3 INTs against CAR and still win, because the other QB threw one or two picks against it.
I made the inverse of this argument back in the Kaepernick days. He'd throw a ball right into a defender's chest with insane velocity and I think it kept his picks lower than they should have been.Kurt Warner

I made the observation to my buddies last night that Purdy's big scramble looked a lot like prime Steve Young. Weird take.
Young was more lumbering, but yeah - he’s got wheels for sure. More importantly I think is that he has the instincts to know when to use them.I made the observation to my buddies last night that Purdy's big scramble looked a lot like prime Steve Young. He's got wheels.
You just now realizing this? It is really bizarre though. It's best to just scroll past the drivel. Is it weird that the biggest 49ers hater on this forum is allegedly a 49ers fan?

On one of the picks (the 2nd I think?) he ran a couple yards then let it fly. IIRC it was @travdogg who observed that he might have had a 1st had he kept running instead, which I agree with. Other than that he shows pretty good judgement on the timing of his scrambles.
Mac is a sitting duck behind what’s a kind of shaky OL. IMO the picks are indicative of a rusty QB trying to get back in the flow. I have faith that he’ll throw fewer of those as he gets more reps.
You don’t think he was lumbering on this totally famous 49 yard run where he literally belly flopped into the end zone?First time I've ever heard 'lumbering' to describe Young. I don't agree with that characterization.
Which I actually said earlier. He buys time for his receivers by sliding around in the pocket.though it isn't just about scrambling but also about moving around in and out of the pocket, getting rid of the ball effectively, etc.
Uh huh. Can you find me some quotes from you from last year saying he floats passes? I’d be fascinated to see those since that’s a very recent issue for him. He's terrible. Wildy overpaid. Ball just floats. As a Rams fan I'm glad he's their franchise QB. They'd be better off with Jones.
I was a fan of his when he first came out. Looked decisive. Crisp. Command of the offense. He’s not that guy anymore. Started throwing terrible interceptions last year and it’s continued. His ball floats and it’s like he doesn’t see underneath defenders. He’s 100% regressed since his rookie year. Do you deny that?Uh huh. Mac Jones did a good job, and I think he’s a starter-level talent in the NFL. But Purdy’s better. Jones lacks mobility. These are facts.

Cmon. It’s a perfect description. He was much bigger than Purdy and moved with less quickness.

I have to agree with Tau, Young was very quick in his younger years (better overall athlete than Purdy for sure) and he was almost identical in size. You don’t think he was lumbering on this totally famous 49 yard run where he literally belly flopped into the end zone?First time I've ever heard 'lumbering' to describe Young. Young was listed at 6'2" 215 lbs. I believe that. Purdy is listed at 6'1" 220 lbs. I believe that. So I don't agree that Young was "much bigger than Purdy."
Young ran the 40 in 4.55 seconds, compared to Purdy's 4.84. I know that isn't definitive, and I agree that Purdy is more athletic than his RAS score indicates. But I stand by my take that Young was not 'lumbering.'
He looked fine before the injury this year. Balls didn’t start sailing on him until he came back. It’s been what, 3 games? One in which he got hurt again? His ball floats and it’s like he doesn’t see underneath defenders. He’s 100% regressed since his rookie year. Do you deny that?
Correct, he's not healthy, and won't be healthy until sometime this offseason - hopefully. The dynamic being described is why I'm likely starting Mariota over him this weekend. This forecast with his current mechanics are no bueno. He looked fine before the injury this year. Balls didn’t start sailing on him until he came back. It’s been what, 3 games? I do deny that. I think you’re making a sweeping generalization based on a very small sample size.
You’re not the only one doing it.
I dunno, I thought he looked pretty healthy out there. I just think he’s rusty. He’s normally got very good touch. That said, hes also working with not the best receivers.Correct, he's not healthy, and won't be healthy until sometime this offseason - hopefully. Imma give it a couple more games before I downgrade him.
If anything this sounds like a great buy-low window. All this demand for Mac & negative spin on Purdy - probably the best value you’ll get on him. Mac probably on another team next year. Trust that Purdy will keep the job.
We (titans) have no D and we put up 24* on Seattle so...Cleveland. Yuck
Bye. Yuck
Titans. Game flow could hurt. Yuck
Might be a relative size thing, Young was 6'2" 35-40 years ago. Lots of big guys back then but they are much bigger on average these daysHuh, maybe I’m off. He only actually sailed a couple passes. CLE Defense is no joke. I’m glad the Browns put their entire offense on paper against the Raiders for Saleh to go to school on. Niners can now prepare for check-downs and wildcat RB.Ugly matchup on the road this week against a DEF with a nasty pass rush. Bot liking his chances to look much better.
Speaking of which, Bryce Young looks preposterously tiny out there. I don’t see many Panthers games, but man - smallest guy on the field.they are much bigger on average these days
Coach Yac
Dan Orlovsky on Brock Purdy’s interceptions:
“Brock Purdy has always been a player that you marveled at how early he threw the football down the field. He has this almost unrealistic anticipation… The interceptions this season are far too often late. The anticipation is gone.”
Dan gives a good breakdown on Brock’s issue and says this is absolutely correctable

I don't think that's the case at all. The Raiders put the Browns in position to run a simple max protect offense in which they pick and chose their spots. Whether this is a good thing or not, there isn't much tape to study. Maybe some tendencies to exploit out of Shedeur, but those aren't new things.CLE Defense is no joke. Then we can agree to disagree. IMO CLE did their best to hide Sanders, who looks extremely limited in what he can do.I don't think that's the case at all. Yep - agree with this. His timing is off. He had flashes of overcoming it. Dart to Kittle later in the game. You could feel when he was clicking, and you could see when he wasn’t.Coach Yac

I just watched a QB take 35+ dropbacks & make 3 “mistakes” (1 decision, 1 throw & 1 read) which is almost unheard of at the position & I’m still hearing ppl complain!!!
Take off the blinders ppl, you can’t just look at the couple mistakes, you have to see the whole picture & appreciate when the position is played well, albeit NOT perfect!!
